The Golden Crust is a new pie baking business(first reported by the and the Green Apple Books blog) from Jessica S. and Lizzy M. who call themselves«The Pie Masterminds». I got a chance to sample their pies at the UFM. I think one of my friends tried the pumpkin bourbon, she said she liked it. I bought a slice of the Meyer lemon meringue($ 3) and a cup of chai($ 2). It was well made, good standard flavors. Their website says that u place an order via email and then pickup at one of their 2 locations: Inner Richmond or Bernal Heights. For some reason when I asked them about where in the Inner Richmond I could pickup a pie, one person told me that they provide delivery, some nonsense about meeting me at a designated place. Then later when one of the owners(she said she’s the baker) approached me to ask about the pie I was eating, she told me that it’s a pickup service. So what is it? pickup or delivery? My guess is that the first person didn’t want to provide an address for fear of getting mugged or worse. If they are not comfortable providing address info then I would suggest that they make an arrangement with a local café or something like that, where customers can pickup their orders. I hear that Pal’s Takeaway on 24th street has several such arrangements with other street vendors. On the menu(from their website): Pecan and Mandarin — $ 20 Meyer Lemon Meringue — $ 20 Café au Chocolat with Caramelized Hazelnuts — $ 20 Upside Down Caramelized Pear and Quince Tart — $ 18 Sweet Potato Bourbon — $ 15 Pumpkin Bourbon — $ 15 Apple Medley with Lattice Crust — $ 20
