I have crossed town to get some ribs from the the truck in the past. I’ve walked a long way on my lunch break and convinced my co-workers to do the same. I generally love the BBQ they provide but lately I have been slightly disappointed with what they have going on. It is still however a great BBQ option, especially on a short lunch break, This last time I ended up with the chicken sandwich, it was average for the most part. Why would I get a chicken sandwich from a truck named rib whip? I find that the prices for the ribs are a bit high in comparison to all the other trucks around them and I have difficulty justifying a $ 20 lunch to grab an extra side and a drink. Poor excuse I know, we should all be able to drop $ 20 for lunch and not worry about it. We all know BBQ is a slow food, it takes time to prepare and it’s evident when corners are cut. The BBQ is delicious and well prepared, its just a bit too expensive. No harsh feelings guys, the ribs are great. The coleslaw could use a shock in flavor, super bland.

I recently attended an event that Rib Whip catered. The food was great and the staff was nice and professional! Barbecue food at a networking event was unexpected but very much welcomed. It was 6:00pm and I was starving. The food was filling and they even provided me a to-go box to take some home! Typically, events have light snack foods like cheese and fruits, perhaps small sandwiches, which is boing and leaves me still hungry. The Rib Whip offers hearty food your guests will appreciate. Do yourself, and your guests, a favor and use the Rib Whip to cater your next event.

Steve and his team catered an event for us for about 75 people. The food was so good, people raved about it all night. The BBQ is delicious, the mac and cheese is AMAZING, and the sauces… OHTHATSAUCES! Thank you Steve and company for wowing our attendees!

Very competent brisket! Their rub is well balanced with no one ingredient overpowering the rest like some other do. Smoke is strong but the character of the beef still comes out. Beef, cut in small chunks rather slices was still moist. Perfect bark does not taste burned. Had it in the BBQ bowl which means it has a bed of white rice, beans, a good portion of brisket topped with chopped leaf lettuce, KC Sweet BBQ sauce and ranch dressing. Beans were tasty, just a bit sweet but a little under-cooked to my taste. The truck has extra sauces(KC Sweet, Habanero, Vinegar based and a mustard based) if you want. Cheaper than most trucks for this $ 12 bowl that made me a contented carnivore. Nice and efficient guys in the truck too.

Short ribs and Carolina pork sandwich were awesome and substantial. The sauce selection was great too. They could have been more generous on the cole slaw, though.

Had an incredibly tasty(and substantial) brisket sandwich from the Rib Whip over in the food truck alley near 1st and Mission. Smokey, tender, moist, with great sauce to boot. Rib Whip has some other options too(ribs, pulled pork, chicken, etc.), and a range of sauce styles(including Carolina). Excited to try other stuff on the menu here! Wait can be a bit long, but it’s worth it.

Ordered the Rib Tip combo plate w/a side Mac and cheese and beans. B O M B. C O M!!! I put two sauces on, I forget the names but one had the word, «Texas» in it. The rib tips were tender, flavorful(on their own, the sauce took it to another level), and yes, there was MEAT on the bone and it was so juicy for sure! It was a blessing to have such a hearty plate. The truck owners know how to work a grill and probably have at least a decade of experience. I can tell the rib tips were crafted and condition to bring out a certain taste, and the meat definitely packed a punch. I was absolutely satisfied with the rib tips!!! The Mac and cheese had mad flavor, and I inhaled it before I could figure out every spice. The baked beans had great flavor, too, but they were a little bit undercooked and hard to eat after a few spoonfuls. They were just a little hard for my taste and that’s the only thing stopping me from giving this truck 5 stars. It was incredible though, don’t pass up this truck if you see it!!!

Event: Company 10th Bday Party I can’t give enough accolades to the Rib Whip. Customer Service: Steven, the manager, is extremely responsive to email, with quick turn around times and really made our event awesome — Not only did he help to craft a spot on menu [which was very reasonably priced], we had some gluten free folks and Steve made sure to have options available for them, including bread. Day Of Execution: On the day of, Josh, Isaiah, and Patrick arrived bright and early, smiling and ready to have a great event. We had approximately 100 people in attendance, and though we ended up with quite a line, the three gents ensured great service from top to bottom and were courteous in making sure other staff were taken care of throughout the day. Food Quality: Making 100 people happy is pretty tricky, but everyone enjoyed their food and walked away smiling. The sides were great [MACANDCHEESE], the meat was great quality, sauces were delicious, what more can I say? Would We Use Again? OFCOURSE. Many Thanks to the Rib Whip for an awesome day!!! PS: Go see them at SOMA Street Food Park!!!

Big black dude texting & fully ignoring the world. I ate these ribs in front of him to see if their mere presence could one-up his phone addiction. 10 seconds later he was talking to me. Another 30 and he walked off in the direction of the truck. This was from inside a building several blocks away. + Legit no-nonsense ribs + Taste the smoke — #basic coleslaw — SC Mustard sauce could be stronger

Having spent my entire life living in coastal states, I’m no authority on Texas BBQ. However, I have visited Texas a few times and can tell when something is BBQ vs. «BBQ». Most brisket I’ve had tends to be Jewish deli style, so it’s nice to have one with BBQ pit spices. They do a good job of capturing the smokey flavors while not drying out the meat. Texas Brisket Sandwich: This was so delicious! Thin slices of brisket with a flavorful outer crust and tender inner meat. The fat inside was still intact(so not dry) and very tender(so not chewy). Came with some BBQ sauce by default despite there being 5 sauce choices in squeeze bottles on the side. The default flavoring worked, but I also enjoyed picking uncovered meat from the bottom side to dip into the other sauces. The bun was super soft; somehow they managed to get the manufactured white bread sponginess into an artisanal roll. Mac & Cheese: Love the kinked shape. Flavorful sauce. Somehow I remember it being a tad creamier last time I had it.

I ordered the Rib Tips and a side of slaw. The guy took my name this time so I wouldn’t have to wrestle anyone who ordered the same thing. The side of slaw was tasty and fresh. The Rib Tips arrived as at least 5 hulking chunks of meat, which were warmer than my previous experience with this food truck, but still not as hot as I think food should be for safety(especially when served by a mobile vendor). My plastic fork and knife were no match for a couple of the drier, crusty chunks. A couple of the chunks were tasty. A couple of the chunks were so riddled with fat that I just gave up on them after slicing them this way and that. I need a toothpick now and I’m waiting for the meat sweats to set in.

Customer service — impeccable Quality of food — 10⁄10 the meat fell off the bone and was really good. Especially with the different sauces they had. The habañero and mustard sauce. I was put off cause I thought it’d be too messy but honestly it was so worth it. The pickle slices they placed on the ribs were even seasoned. You can tell they care about their cooking. Well worth the money.

Did a take out from the SOMA food park; Had the Carolina Pork sandwich, pork alone was delicious but the slaw(which I’m not a big fan of in general) was a perfect pairing. The added the beef fat onions which made the entire sandwich so delicious. When you can take three ingredients that are equally delicious by themselves and bring them together with even distribution you might know what you’re doing. Recommended place to eat. And the Sunkist was good too!

I saw them for the first time last night and moveable feast on at the Curtner light rail. I knew it was late since I was just leaving work but I got their last plate of the night. They were out of mac and cheese and chicken by then so I got pulled pork and rice and beans. The pork was tender, the rice was cooked well and the beans were flavorful. Only thing I regret is not grabbing more bbq sauce. It was a huge plate of food for the price; which I really appreciate. I stopped going to moveable feast since the food is more expensive and the trucks don’t change very often but I was really happy that I stopped last night. If I saw them again I would definitely get a plate.

Now THIS my friends are what wet brisket dreams are made of: . A beautiful smoke ring encapsulating an incredibly moist center with a wondrous tender chew and a lovely smoky nuance. Perfect alone but with the soft, toasted sesame bun, robust bbq sauce, tangy housemade pickles, and crisp red onions… it was increasingly addicting with each mouthwatering bite. BEST. BRISKET. SAMMIE. EVER. Ummm, what 2015 Resolution? *shrugs* OTHERNOTES: *Under New Management. *We had no intention of buying anything from The Rib Whip but I saw several customers return to the truck raving about the brisket sammie. Ok, SOLD! *One of the better valued items at SoMa StrEat Food Park. –The Rib Whip’s $ 12 sammie was generously stuffed with thick, juicy cuts of brisket compared to meager $ 8 slider sized burgers at other trucks. *Regularly at SoMa StrEat Food Park on Saturdays but do check their website for their current schedule.

I have been to the Rib Whip truck a couple times and had a great meal. Today I drove 30 minutes to have a chicken bowl and a piece of Grandma Ruth’s pie. The bowl was good. It is consistent. The pie on the other hand was NOT worth the $ 5.00 they asked for it. It was all cream with about a half inch of runny filling. It was black on most of the bottom. Whatever it was, I could not eat it. I threw it away. I am attaching a picture for your viewing pleasure. My recommendation is to save your money. They should be ashamed boxing up this garbage and selling it… BURNT. Oh, and the colleague of mine that I brought… she got a burnt piece as well. Thanks but no thanks!

Saw this truck during the 75th Anniversary NASA Open House at the Super Moveable Feast. Walking around to see all the trucks left at the festival, this truck caught my eye because of the Sriracha ribs. Menu: Brisket Sandwich:($ 12) Topped w/House-made Pickles, Red Onions, TX Red Sauce Pork Sandwich:($ 10) Topped w/Coleslaw Chicken Sandwich:($ 10) Topped w/Alabama White BBQ Sauce & Coleslaw Sriracha BBQ Spare Ribs:(Half — $ 15 /Full — $ 30) Glazed w/Sriracha and Kansas City Sauce topped w/crispy onions and diced jalapenos Mac & Cheese: $ 4 Coleslaw: $ 3 Pit Beans $ 3 My Order: Sriracha BBQ Spare Ribs The ribs weren’t too spicy but had just enough kick. Unfortunately, not very tender. The toppings gave a nice crunch and texture though. Fairly decent for ribs off a food truck: smokey but not overly dry nor not too saucy(flavor is more in the glaze).

Carolina pork sandwich $ 9. I came here about a month ago and I can’t even remember what it tasted like… If that’s so, then it must have been either a let down or just OK… But I did remember that there was 3 – 4 different sauces to add on the burger. The slaw was crunchy. The meat was tender but close to chewy. The burger was a nice size. All in all, not a memorable experience.

I tried the BBQ Chicken Sando at Outside Lands and I was not impressed… …it’s not a terrible food truck, but with so many food trucks nowadays… The Rib Whip needs to step up it’s game… It’s never a good sign when the food just tastes OK, even when you’re starving.

The Rib Whip showed up at work yesterday, so I decided to check it out with some coworkers. It’s no secret that good BBQ is pretty much nonexistent around the Bay Area so I kept my expectations low. I had the Brisket Sandwich and tried some ribs that my coworkers ordered. I thought the brisket was on the dry side and could’ve been more tender. Although I could taste the sweet rub on the outside, the flavors didn’t penetrate into brisket. I thought it wasn’t really that smoky either. I didn’t even notice a smoke ring. Not everything was bad, though. I appreciated that they didn’t completely engulf the sandwich in sauce. They used a careful amount so that its tanginess could have complimented the meat if it was more flavorful. I could tell the spareribs were better prepared than the brisket just by looking at them. There was a dark bark on the outside, and the smoke ring was clearly visible. An appropriate amount of tangy sauce helped balance the smokiness and sweet rub of the ribs. I thought it could’ve been bolder with the spices and smoke, but their ribs were better than most places in the Bay Area. I guess you just need to pay attention to their name. Stick with the ribs. Tip: When ordering BBQ, get the sauce on the side. That way, you can see if there’s a smoke ring or not.
