Thomas Murray Jr. – California Mortgage

My experience with Thomas was nothing but superb. I recently closed on a condo in San Francisco and could not have done it without Thomas. Thomas was working with me for over a year as I search for a home and from the beginning Thomas was attentive– answered every email/​phone call in a timely manner; was kind and respectful. Any question /​concern I had, Thomas or his amazing assistant Kyle was there to direct me accordingly. Thomas was able to help me close in 14 days. 14 days!!! And it was a smooth process. Every one of those days I was able to get in contact with Thomas or his assistant Kyle. Overall, I would highly recommend Thomas as he is simply the best!

We were referred to Thomas Murray, Jr because he was THE preferred lender for a condo project in Pasadena, CA. The reason was because the condo was in a combined residential and commercial building. Junior was extremely arrogant and rude. He wouldn’t return emails or calls for several days and when he finally did, made comments about how he has other customers and prioritizes calls accordingly… As an orthopaedic surgeon who runs a 5 man surgical group and an MBA who started 3 other companies, i can’t believe this man is able to close deals with anyone– he has no sense of customer service. His work ethic is awful. We fired him after a month of BS. Don’t get involved. You will only be disgusted…

Thomas has to be the most unprofessional individual I have ever dealt with. Unfortunately, I was forced to work with him because he was the preferred lender for a condo I was purchasing. Right of the bat, he was unresponsive to my phone calls and emails. On the rare occasions when I did speak with him, he was so rude and arrogant that it was shocking. He wasted over three months of my time by misleading me on the status of my loan. After many others complained about him to the sales office, they finally transferred everyone to a new preferred lender. The experience with the new lender was night and day from what I experienced with Thomas. They were able to close my loan in less than 30 days. Someone of his caliber should not be in business. Without a doubt, take your loan elsewhere!

We contacted Thomas Murray, who was one of the preferred lenders for a condo project, where we recently purchased a unit. Because the project didn’t meet certain criteria and we were told Thomas Murray /​Cal Mortgage were processing the ones in contract, we contacted Thomas. There are several reasons for the 1 star rating:
1) Can’t deliver — Thomas initially suggested a loan rate that was in the range of what other banks were offering, so we thought it would be competitive. Then, after checking my credit score (over 800 from all agencies) he basically suggests a higher rate. Bait and switch? No, even after we say okay to the higher rate, he says he can’t do the loan at all. This was borderline fraud.
2) Arrogance — I have never dealt with a more arrogant loan officer. I work at a bank myself and this was not my first mortgage, but he treated me as if I didn’t know anything about mortgages. If you enjoy a loan officer who will send you your own emails back to you to quote things entirely out of context and downright wrong, choose this joker. Some of his emails started out with «let me drill this down for you». What an arrogant SOB. Then he tells us that it sounds like we tried other banks first and had to come to him, implying therefore we must bow down to him. We ended up closing the loan with someone else.
3) Unreachable — Over the month or so that I was in touch with him, I never spoke once to him on the phone or in person. He might get back to you by e-​mail, with one of those condescending, sarcastic and frankly unprofessional missives. We sent him e-​mails with information about the property, and then he would lose them and tell us by trademark e-​mail that we didn’t send any information to him and that was the reason for the bait and switch.
I can’t think of one positive aspect in dealing with him. Go elsewhere, this guy is not for you.
