Before I review let me start by saying that this place is under new Ownership and is now called«Yuyu Sushi» I have been coming to this place with my family for years when it was under the original owners«TOYO» Now if it was still«TOYO» I would be giving a much more positive review. With that being said, I am now underway… I usually never give negative reviews, especially for local spots near my neighborhood. However, I was extremely disappointed when I ate here last night. I was a little worried when I saw the signage had changed but made a sigh of relief when I saw the menu was the same and they were offering 2.50 Nigiri. The woman who took our order made order taking so much more difficult than it usually is. My friend had asked for a side of Miso Salad and she kept pushing us to order this large green mixed salad that we didn’t want. After simply requesting a «Side Miso Salad» MANYTIMES(You know, the small salad that every Japanese restaurant offers with the white dressing) she brings us this large salad with no dressing on a big plate, stating that if we wanted the other one, we would have to order a Dinner Bento Box or a some mixed plate she pointed at on the wall. It became more of an arguement than an explanation. We just said«F» it and asked for a side of the Miso dressing. She brings us a tiny cup of what looked like Miso Soup. The sushi and sashimi was still fairly the same and my grilled Hamachi was still what i remembered it to be. But the portions have definitely skimped in size and the server just left my experience with a bad taste in my mouth. I’m disappointed because the previous owners gave GREAT service and never watered down the Miso Soup(ugh) Even more so never argued with me over a stupid side salad. Pass on this place!

I stopped by here with a few friends because the other sushi place we went to would have taken 20 – 40 minutes to give us our order. Which is RIDICULOUS. I ordered the lover roll(ebi, cream cheese, and avocado in a roll wrapped with baked salmon topped with tobiko and green onions). It took about ten minutes to get my order to go. My friends were waiting for their orders… and it took much longer so I started eating mine. I didn’t know what to expect because the description sounded great yet the rating of this place seemed less than awesome. I liked it though. Honestly not the best sushi in the world, but it hit the spot. It was pretty tasty. I ended up finishing my roll before my friend’s orders came. It took maybe 20 minutes for their orders to come. That was weird. We took it to go and ate it at their place. They seemed to enjoy it but also felt it was average sushi. Overall, average place. Nice service though!

Maybe I just came on a bad day but nothing I had tasted fresh at all. I usually only go for the nigiri portion of the menu and I was let down big time by Toyo. I’ll have to go back and try something else…

Good lunch and dinner specials. I enjoy coming here whenever I am craving for quick and reasonable Japanese food.

Not spectacular. I was in the lakeshore shopping plaza and had a craving for sushi. I had pretty low expectations and they were met. I got a bento box because it was cheap and sounded yummy. Mine came with rice, salad, miso soup, an orange slice, california roll, and sesame chicken. Miso soup: bland, i didn’t think you could really mess up a miso soup but it was pretty bland, still I stayed optimistic for my actual meal and since I was starving I assured myself no matter the quality, I’d probably be satisfied. WRONG. The only thing edible was the salad, which had a tasty wasabi dressing and used mixed greens instead of the typical iceberg lettuce — kudos! California roll: While the roll itself was huge, it wasn’t prepared well and tasted soggy, I couldn’t finish it. Sesame seed chicken: this was fried and gross. It looked kind of pink despite being fried up, after one piece I felt icky. The only thing really redeemable about this place is that the customer service was good and the restaurant appeared very clean. The server and the sushi preparer were super friendly without being overbearing. Unfortunately, not even awesome customer service could make me a returning guest… the food just was not up to par.

The staff is super nice. The real crabmeat California roll was not so good. I did love the Walnut Creek roll. I also got the roll(forgot the name) with spicy tuna inside and seaweed salad on top. Yummy! Obviously I couldn’t eat everything… but I just wanted to try the rolls. In a pinch, I would go again.

Good deal: $ 9.95 for two items for dinner. Food was good. Service was good. Food portions could be more generous though. I was hungry a few hours after eating though.

Love it here! Nice and quiet and the sushi is awesome! My favorite is the mt. Fugi roll extra spicy! Another great roll is the spider roll and dragon roll! we also love happy hour which is 3 – 5. Definitely worth a try! Enjoy…

The sashimi was arguably«fresh,» but if you keep stuff frozen, it can stay«fresh» for pretty long. The worst part was the sashimi pieces were still sorta frozen in the middle when it made its way to our table. No bueno. Decent variety of rolls, but not super flavorful. .. yes, I know that’s what soy sauce is for, but still no tickling of my tastebuds with each bite, so disappointment. Tempura Udon: Udon and broth were standard(no complaint, but also no hurrahs). Tempura was another story. Tempura tasted like it had been deep fried in oil that should have been changed last week. On the upside, service was attentive: my cup was always filled with hot tea and the food came out pretty quickly.

I work at Lakeshore Plaza, and there aren’t many other lunch options in the plaza, so I eat here a lot. My review is based on literally a HUNDRED meals here, so I’m trying to be concise. Service: Usually prompt. They are quick to get your tea or water, and refill fairly constantly. Occasionally during rush times they slow down(as does any place), but they have always been courteous and accommodating. They also respond well to EYECONTACT, if you think you’ve been waiting too long for your check. They have never messed up my order. Atmosphere: Clean. Japanese-y(and you know what I mean by that). Comfortably lit. Usually some inoffensive soft rock playing. Food: Usually good, but has had off days. The miso is usually flavorful, but is occasionally too bland. The lunch special is filling and a good value. I like it with the salmon teryiyaki, sesame chicken, or their tempura(never been soggy). The typical Americanized rolls are good, as are many of their house specials. I recommend the Spicy Crab Meat Tempura Roll and the Rainbow Roll. I CANNOTGETENOUGHOFTHEIRSALADDRESSING. Seriously. The seaweed salad is also solid, as are their gyoza. For dessert(if you haven’t been tempura’d out), go for Banana Tempura. Yum. I tend to avoid any restaurant’s sashimi, so I can’t help you there. Overall: I like this place. I can have a whole sit-down meal in a lunch break without feeling rushed. Not the greatest sushi I’ve ever had, but certainly better than some places. My friends like this place, too. I give it four stars for being a solid sushi place.

There weren’t very many good reviews prior to mine, but I was quite happy with my lunch today. I ordered the Chirashi bowl and requested all Hamachi. I posted a picture… it was minus 1 piece that I already ate. :0)They gave me 12 thick, fat slices very worth the $ 14.95 that I paid, it also came with the usual meal sides rice, salad and miso soup. My bf got some small rolls spicy scallop maki, avocado maki, radish maki, and spicy hamachi maki that didn’t look spicy to me… maybe it just had wasabi in it? They looked ok, I cannot really give a good review on their sushi just based on those simple plain rolls as most maki rolls are. Although, everything tasted fresh to me. I even liked the dressing on my salad which was a spicy soy vinegarette.

LOOKSWEIRD. THATAINTSABANIGIRI??? (1 star) HOWDARE I LOWERMYPALATEANDSTANDARDS. One star for the fresh avocado, that’s about it. — food, EEEH!!! — service, i ordered to go and they were very fast — portions, typical — price, okay How disappointing, in the food & in myself? I’ve lowered my palate and stepped into this place — only because i was near starving and was lazy to really select a great place to eat on a Friday evening. Next, i’d rather go home and to bed starving than to spend $ 12 at a place i do not like for food that does not satisfy my palate. HEFFER-STYLESTATUS. SABA($ 3.95 /2 pieces) — THATAINTSABA? okay maybe it was. but it didn’t look like it. and the taste wasn’t fresh. i felt like i was eating a day old sliced fish(the taste was not creamy and a little on the fishy side). we all know sashimi is creamy, not fishy. CALIFORNIAROLL($ 4.95 /6 pieces) — typical california roll. i knew it was best to order something ‘safe’ because i knew in the back of my mind i was not going to like this place. yup, i was right. the only great thing about my meal here was the fresh avocade in the california roll. MISOSOUP($ 1.50) — typical. Will i be back? NO! I’ll stick to my great sushi places in the city. Until the next review…

Food poisoning! x_X I had lunch at Toyo on Sunday, March 13. Monday afternoon I barfed at work. I barfed on BART(I threw up in my lunch box). And I barfed at home. I won’t get in to the diarrhea. It makes me cry to think about it. I ate the chicken bento box lunch special and an oshinko roll. I didn’t order or eat any raw meat or fish.

Rolls: no go Bento Boxes: okay for $ 7.95 lunch special. I came here with my cousin today after persistently looking for a sushi place that is open in the afternoon. We checked out three other sushi places, but sadly they were closed, so I thought of Toyo Sushi. The food taste mediocre. From a scale of 1 – 10, 10 being the best, I would rate the food a 3. It taste fine if you’re hungry, but if you’re a sushi person like me, you will not like this place at all. The ika were odd tasting; you can definitely tell it’s not fresh. Also, there wasn’t enough rice with it. The bento boxes for the lunch special is $ 7.95. Great deal with the amount of food. If I’m craving for good, authentic sushi, I would not come here.

Wow. I almost want to give this 5 stars because I was really amazed after eating here but I’m still cautious considering all the 1 star reviews. After my second visit I’ll reconsider if it is a 4 or 5 star place. My most favorite restaurant in town is Underground Sushi Time. I always compare other sushi places to it; I am usually let down. I had been wanting to try this place but was hesitant after I saw the reviews. It was 3pm, Sushi Time and my other alternative, K’s Kitchen were both closed till 5 and I needed lunch NOW. Toyo was open so I thought to myself, «now’s the time.» The miso soup was almost identical to Underground’s and the rolls were all very tasty. Their Rainbow Roll was less elaborate than Underground’s, which is another reason why I didn’t give a full 5 stars. However, their Dragon Roll and Mt. Fuji rolls were amazing! I did notice a lack of service, but it was 3pm, and considering it was an off-hour, it really wasn’t that horrible to have to wait an extra minute or two for some more pickled ginger. We will be back for sure!

I felt like this place sucked, yet had never tried it. I really really wanted sushi and not Albertson’s Sushi across the parking lot. I so used to really good sushi, but I was so isolated and cold and hungry in this sleepy sloat shopping center. No one is ever in there, bad sign for sushi. Ok so 2 and a half stars, since no one was in there, damn I got my sushi fast! The salmon was sad. Not horrible, just sad. The ichiban roll was pretty bomb though. When I got the check I was disappointed to be paying the same I would pay at an AMAZING sushi place.

Terrible place. If you want to get served your food well over half an hour, implies you have more patience than me. Me and my girlfriend sat for over half an hour, only to get served tea. Screw that. We left and instead went to King of Thai across the lot. We got served, ate our food, and left King of Thai within 20 minutes. King of Thai is greater than Toyo Sushi.

This place is a prime example of how laziness and convenience can make fools out of people. After a long day, I concluded my evening by running some errands, so I was in need of something quick for dinner. I was at Petco here at Lakeshore Plaza and had a craving for Japanese. I figured why, not, I’m here, and it can’t possibly be terrible. Okay, so this place isn’t terrible, but it’s definitely pretty darn bad. We started off dinner with the Spicy Crab and Tempura Roll. Erm… the roll came out presented nicely, but the crab was not spicy at all. Weak flavor and mediocre. I’m a meat-love, so I always order my Bento Boxes with some sort of meat. I opted for the Tonkatsu(Bread Pork Cutlet) and Beef Teriyaki. The server tells me that they use a steak type of beef and grille it. Boy, have I never had a more worse piece of beef in my life. The beef was way too tough to where you can be chewing one piece 100 times and it still won’t get any softer. This I can only assume is from overcooking and/or having an extremely old piece of beef. Visually it just looked bad all around as well – stiff and rubbery. *Shakes head* Tonkatsu was also terrible as the batter falled off just by picking a piece up. The meat was also not tender and was extremely tough to chew. Aside from the old, overcooked meat, the portion sizes here are the biggest rip off one can spend. Bento was $ 14.95 for bad meat, and literally 5 cut pieces of each. Really? Are your Bento’s worthy of being sold for $ 14.95? *Note to self, despite how lazy you are, and in need of a quick convenient meal, try to make some sort of attempt to research a little.* Or go to McDonalds, you might just as well be happier! So the joke’s on me.

More like a 2.75 star review. Rock&Roll roll: eh. it’s a bit hard to mess up a Rock&Roll since its only unagi and avocado. but they topped the roll with some bitter soysauce-looking sauce. what is this sauce? i don’t think i like it. SFPD roll:( ) i liked. spicy tuna, shrimp tempura, cucumber, avocado topped with unagi and tobiko. yum. Charashi bowl: the fish looked really good. i didn’t try it but my friends had no complaints. Chicken teriyaki dinner: the green salad took up more plate room than anything else. the chicken tasted too healthy, with only a thin glaze of teriyaki sauce.

Saturday night, 11 people, 8:00 p.m. So I was running late. But so was almost everyone else, so I don’t feel so bad. They have a very extensive menu, but half of the group ordered the chirashi anyways. I wasn’t feeling super hungry, and my wallet feels a bit thin, so I opted for the oyako don. Not bad, but nothing to call my mom about. + it’s in a plaza, so there’s parking a plenty. + the tea is pretty good. We all had more than our fair share. Not sure why other people had bad experience with service. They were really nice to us. But maybe because there aren’t that many other people in the restaurant…
