Service was terrible. There were only 5 people in front of me and it waited for 15 mins to place my order. They were under staffed & under prepped. One of the guys was off to the side cutting up more salmon. They said they were out of the cucumber salad so they gave me extra greens which wasn’t really anything and had no dressing. The food was nothing spectacular. I ordered Bento box #2 with the Alaskan roll and I’m still hungry.

This place was a joke. It took 30 minutes to get to the counter, when only 5 people were in front of me. I placed my order and the woman preparing didn’t even know what was included in the meal I chose. I had to tell her she was forgetting food items. The whole presentation was a complete mess. There was avocado and crab smudged all over the outside of the to-go box. The man at the register was sweating PROFUSELY. I am afraid that his sweat was dripping into the cauldron of miso soup and that people would ingest it. He kept wiping his face with his bare hands, didn’t wash his hands, and handled people’s food boxes and payment forms this way. It was utterly disgusting. The cost for this horrendous meal was $ 13– which included mostly rice, a little bit of crab, 5 pieces of edamame, and lettuce. I do not recommend this place one bit and will not be going back. I am now hoping I don’t get food poisoning.

Unimpressed. I got the the 49er roll and it was barely OK. The sushi chef looked up to the screen to check what went in my roll. Maybe he was new? He handed it off to the next person who finished my roll. There was no more wasabi and ginger to go so the cashier was filling little cups up but without any gloves on. I opted out. This place is a great concept but they need to work on their execution, cleanliness and the flavor of their food. All 3 were seriously lacking.

Good lunch time sushi spot. The staff were all very friendly and competent. The miso soup was tasty. I had a salmon roll which was good.

First time customer, I walked in and was asking… do you guys have Sushirrito too? I mean the Sushi rolls there looked great, but I was just hungry and wanted get a larger portion of food… They were so nice, and not up-seling at all, cause they told me how to find Sushirrito nearby very friendly. And I saw the delicious bowl on the shelf, and he told me how to customize the bowl. In a few minutes, I got my best lunch of Jan. 2016 so far. hahaha.

I really liked this place, never understood they make custom rolls glad I tried it. Went with brown rice and unagi, tempura, cucumber and Tomago was really great nothing like custom :) Will totally try again. Cucumber salad was a little bland but fresh.

This is one of my favorite lunch spots near work. For $ 12, you get a large chirashi bowl with 6 healthy helpings of fish of your choice(a few sashimi options, poke, spicy tuna, crab, unagi, shrimp tempura), lots of rice, a choice of 3 vegetables, garnishes, and a wide variety of sauces. I must say I didn’t get it right on my first time here. I wasn’t sure how to order so my bowl came out a little odd and it needed more garnishes/sauces. Since then, I’ve been back 3 – 4 times and have not been disappointed. You just need to know what you want and conceptualize it in your head when ordering or you’ll end up with a hot mess(common problem at build-your-own-whatever places, right?). I haven’t tried the rolls or bento boxes, but I would definitely recommend this place for the bowls. The staff is very friendly, too!

They serve poke bowls now! Delicious :) Once again recommend the Yuzu Aloli sauce!

I really like this place and its location. For«fast food sushi» it is great. I also appreciate they have soy paper wrap. Downside: they don’t change their gloves between whatever they are doing and making your sushi roll. Sometimes they ask… other times they just wear the same ones. I’ve also had them use a dirty knife to cut my roll when the machine was down.

What a concept! You make your own sushi! It sounds more complicated than it is. You basically choose between a one-fish or a two-fish roll. Your choice is 3 or 4 types of seafood, and between brown and white rice. Then you move to the other fillings, cucumber, avocado, tobiko, etc, and finish off with a sauce. Plus when I checked in with Unilocal I got free edemame. I ate right at the place — tiny high table with 3 stools, but most people take out so nobody was sitting there. Is it the best sushi in San Francisco? Of course not, but it was fresh, fast and good taste for the value in a FiDi eatery. I’ll go back

This place is great! I’m surprised to see so many 3’s and 4’s. Their fish is great, and really shouldn’t that be a priority of every sushi place? Not gimmicks(I’m looking at you Sushiritto), not floating boat, but the quality of the fish. Plus any place that doesn’t stuff snow crab into my roll is good in my books. Sweet and perfect for a SF lunch rush.

This is one of those times that the idea is novel, yet the execution somehow falls short. Applying the Chipotle business model to sushi: almost sounds like a no-brainer, right? There’s a lot of good ideas, especially when you consider that people’s preferences are rather different. Choose your rice, wrap, fish, and even veggies? What more can you ask? It’s a great idea in concept and I will admit that. It just doesn’t really wow you. Sure, it’s fast, and my roll came out with just the ingredients I wanted in it, yet somehow I’m left not all that satisfied. The roll as a whole tasted rather dry. Perhaps it needed more sauce. I’m willing to give this place a try again since it’s not too far, but it doesn’t exactly fulfill the sushi craving I was looking for. If anything it sorta feels like just healthy dry stuff put together. Perhaps better ratios is the key to success in this case. TIP: Their fish is pretty decent.

On a hunt for sushi in San Francisco, my husband mentioned this place where he’d gotten a bowl with rice and fish. «Plenty to fill you up for only about 10 $.» is what he said. Not expecting much for the price, we headed down to U-Sushi. This place exceeded my expectations, for sure. I got the Chirashi bowl with 6 fish and 3 vegetables. The fish was excellent quality. I’ve had better sticky rice, but for the price, it was delicious. My only complaint would be the lack of variety of fish. However, it’s filling, cheap, and yummy. I’ll definitely become a regular here.

Interesting concept, not so great execution. I was pretty excited to try this place because they had such a variety of veggies I could put into a veggie roll. Even though the line looks long, it moves relatively fast because the flattening of the rice and the rolling and cutting of the role is all done by machines! Got a veggie roll with white rice, avocado, cucumber, tofu and asparagus with the jalapeño aioli and spicy mayo. It wasn’t great, it was just ok. The tofu was a little too chewy for my liking. The sauces added a nice touch but I was still not extremely satisfied with the meal. Interesting place to try maybe once or twice, but I will not be back here often unfortunately.

Definitely exceeded my expectations! I got a Chirashi bowl($ 12) here. The rice was warm and soft and their raw fish(I got poke, salmon, yellow tail, and snow crab) was not bad. The veggies they have are okay, just your typical cucumber, spinach, seaweed salad, etc. U-sushi is a quick DIY sushi place. Though their selection is limited, their food and quality is good. And the pricing is nothing that would break your bank. Not to mention, they have a great staff here. Overall, I would come back again for some quick on the go japanese/sushi food.

I am not a fan of sushiritto, so bland and boring, so I was skeptical of this place but it is world’s apart from that. I am completely obsessed with this place. I have been coming here at least once a week since I started working in the building. The chirashi bowl with salmon and poke is my go-to, the fish is always fresh and the toppings are good too. The bento boxes and tuna and salmon rolls are good too when I want to mix it up. I also dig the miso soup, it always hits the spot. The other thing that stands out for me is the friendliness of the staff. Everyone is always so nice and they even remember me when they see me outside. I have to call out Royce since I don’t know anyone else’s name, but all of the staff deserves major props for always being cheerful and awesome. I also love the frequent buyer card since I go so much!

I like their happy hour prices Mon thru Fri 3−6pm. You can get a California roll or Alaskan roll for $ 5! I also heard you can get the roll half half. I like the Alaskan roll and I add tobiko and daikon in it. It’s a great deal for $ 5! I’ve never been here during regular prices, just go there 3−6pm after work to pick up a little something for dinner!

U-Sushi is a Japanese take on «chipotle» style dining where you can build your own Chirashi bowl and pick all of your toppings… my type of place!!! The service is so good, all of the guys working there are so sweet and smiley for the amount of traffic that they have during peak lunch hours. You can also order ahead online if you are in a rush :) The chirashi bowl was exactly what I expected, tasty, and huge! It lasted me two meals… but then again I ate like a bird today. My one recommendation for this place is to fix their menu screens… its quite confusing and makes the flow of the restaurant slower than it could be. It might be enough to deter people away. The menu screens are a little wordy and I ended up just asking the guy at the counter what I was supposed to do. Maybe they could put little signs in the window that say the«steps» as to how to build your bowl, and clearly label the # of toppings you could get for each. Or they can make their screens more picture based. (BTW, AVOCADO is not extra!!! I made a little lame fistpump when I heard that). Will come back again!

Came here today for a quick to go lunch and I was impressed. I came here a couple of times before when they did pre-made rolls and it was meh. Now I guess they are robo cutter and so are made to order rolls? The menu is kind of confusing as you have to figure out how you want to build your sushi roll but don’t fret! There is a separate menu that have suggestions for you like california roll and dragon rolls. I went for the half and half roll which is half CA roll and half spicy tuna. I got it on brown rice and it came with cucumbers and avocado and I added spicy mayo and asparagus spears. Though the seaweed is a little tough to chew through, the roll was pretty good. I’m glad I added the spicy mayo too as the spicy tuna wasn’t as spicy by itself and so the mayo gave it a nice kick. I will be coming back as this is a great quick to go option for me and the staff were all super nice and helpful! Don’t forget to check in to get your free edamame!
