Maybe they were having a bad day, but this place is insanely disorganized. It seemed like everyones first day on the job, learning the testing machines. Once I finally saw the Dr., he seemed good, but there is no way I would get LASIK here based on how I was shuffled around during the consultation.

I had LASIK procedure done in January of 2013, and it was the one of best decisions of my life. Dr. McLeod is one of the experts in the field and I was very happy that he was recommended to me by my coworker. I have done all my research prior to picking this center, which includes Kaiser and a popular place in San Jose. Kaiser did not have the latest technology and the place in San Jose was just a LASIK factory, which happens to cost $ 300 more but without the personalization and expertise of Dr. McLeod. I recommend Dr. McLeod and UCSF to anyone that wants this procedure. He’s very patient and explains everything to you in detail. The staff is super nice and you might have to talk and be examined by studying interns, but Dr. McLeod performs the actual procedures and consults with you personally. The consult is $ 100 and will go towards the procedure cost if you do decide to have it done at UCSF. For anyone that is shopping around, I encourage you have a consult with all the other free consult places, then come here to see the difference. The only thing is you do have to keep in mind is that UCSF is not like the other commercial places, so there is always a good deal of wait time for the consult, for the procedure, and for all follow ups. You don’t just go in and out. They won’t sell you on the procedure either, which I really like.

Wonderful experience. I was eager to get LASIK but was not sure whether to go to a «LASIK factory» or a world class academic institution. I’m glad I chose the latter. Dr. McLeod, the chairman of ophthalmology at UCSF, is an extremely knowledgeable, experienced, and most of all, down to earth physician who made me feel comfortable with my decision to pursue LASIK. He is incredibly patient and easy to talk to, performed a comprehensive evaluation of my eyes, and made sure I was definitely a great candidate for the procedure. He was able to cite research done in the field to alleviate concerns about potential side effects and explained the reasoning behind the decision making process. The care was highly personalized and I felt well cared for as a patient. The support staff was very nice and helpful; given the academic nature of the institution I did not feel any sales pressure. The postop experience was great and Dr. McLeod personally examined me and made sure I had an excellent outcome. I would recommend anyone considering LASIK to undergo the procedure at UCSF. It is a fantastic institution that provides outstanding, patient-centered care.
