Westside courts is a pleasure to have in the neighborhood. I live across the street and play basketball there a couple times a week(super convenient), and people are always friendly. It’s nice to come home to a neighborhood with something actually going on, whether it’s people heading to a friend’s place for dinner or kids skateboarding and shooting hoop on the court.

Not really surprised that nobody’s written a review of this place yet. If you’re considering living here, you probably don’t have a lot of other options, so it’s kind of pointless to do any real research on the place. Also, it’s a project, so whether it would be highly rated on Unilocal or not would be irrelevant. It’s a project, let’s just put it that way. I don’t live here, I’ve never been inside the buildings, but I live across the street. The one perk of having this monstrous eyesore in the neighborhood is always having front row seats to a good fight or some other criminal activity. Sometimes it’s fun and it breaks up the monotony of living in a quiet, respectable neighborhood that can drive a person to madness. Other times, it’s pretty disturbing. For instance, a few minutes ago I witnessed a crazy domestic violence situation. It started with a couple loudly fighting. So, naturally, I get my popcorn ready and go right to the window, separating the blinds with one hand and shoveling popcorn into my mouth with the other. And there’s this guy and a chick arguing and he’s yelling at her to go home. And then he picks her up to move her(which is a good thing, too, because his friend a half second later hits the gas to back his car up for some reason, narrowly missing them). And then they both kind of start pushing each other and leaning into each other. I’m at this point wondering what the protocol is when witnessing a domestic violence situation. Are you supposed to wait until somebody actually throws a slap or a punch to call 911? I’ll be honest, I was in a relationship once where a major fight happened because I found out my boyfriend cheated on me. Naturally I went nuts on him with 100% Italian passionate fury and bit that asshole on his FACE. But that is because I am not to be fucked with, fellas. Anyways at one point the couple started wrestling on a car(this place has ample free street parking btw!) and someone yelled out«That’s my cousin car!» This was clearly more of a concern than the couple beating the crap out of each other. After the couple started chasing each other, two guys came out to inspect the car. Pretty soon after all this started happening, I noticed the cops started showing up, so I didn’t feel so bad about not calling 911. I mean, it really looked like the kind of fight that I’ve had before and didn’t look like anyone was going to get seriously hurt. But I also learned in first year of law school that what happened was against the law and definitely counted as assault/battery. And when as many cops showed up as there just were, and considering what just happened, probably both of those people are now headed off to jail(another perk of this place is getting to watch people getting arrested and carted off to the clink). I guess the lesson is if you are going to beat the crap out of your boyfriend or girlfriend, do it behind closed doors and not where the whole hood can watch. The weird part about this situation was the bonding experience it brought to the neighborhood. Everyone in the hood was hanging out the window watching what was going on, and afterward everyone was talking about it and making the occasional domestic violence joke. We kind of all came together, so this love story has a happy ending.
