I was taken hear by my date. She has been many times. It was raining and we needed a break. The staff was very friendly. Tea was served quick. Then our rice and main dish. Everything was hot and fresh looking. The restaurant was very clean. My girlfriend and I each had one of there clay pot dishes. I had BBQ pork with oysters. Great flavor. I will be back.

Yummy food, friendly service and reasonable prices. I usually spend $ 8 for a rice plate with soup. Very satisfying food and very fast service. I go there twice a week.

Ok food at a cheap price. But, dirty facility. Discussing bathrooms. Slow, unfriendly service. Only an 86 on the last health inspection, which should be enough reason to avoid.

I have visited this location for lunch in multiple occasions and needless to say, I am always satisfied. The place is a little cramped, but if you’re from the city, that shouldn’t be too big an issue. The staff is quick to seat you and take your order. The food itself takes a little bit but nothing worth fussing about. Whether you’re by yourself or a party of 6, I find this place to be a great location for some great multicultural Asian cuisine. I ordered a bowl of the won ton soup with the Orange chicken lunch special. Not only was it enough food, it was all under $ 15. The portion of the Orange chicken was what I expected while the bowl was more than enough! Courteous staff and decent environment. If you’re looking for quick and tasty Asian cuisine while touring Chinatown or on break from work, I recommend this place. I’ll be returning next time I’m in the city.

I paid over $ 18 dollars and got 5 peices of shrimp mixed with mayo over a plate of white rice which was supposed to be honey walnut over rice. I received 5 prices of shrimp for $ 12 dollars and scoops of rice for $ 6 I will never order lunch here again and the sad thing is if they would have given at least what I payed for I would have been a returning customer due to my employment being across the street. Unfortunately my first experience eating here is the worst

Walking in you know what to expect. Inexpensive. Small portions. Solid for lunch. Fast.

2.5 stars. This economic boom has ruined my old food options. Portions seem to be smaller and prices higher. I used to frequent Young’s Café back in the day when I worked in FiDi. I was recently in the area and hungry so I decided to order my old favorite… salt and pepper fish. The batter is this«puffy» batter, not like the breading I’m used to. And the portions sizes are smaller. It still is tasty, but this is no longer my first choice for salt and pepper fish. Nostalgic for the old days when I could go to certain places for certain dishes…

Egg rolls = good.(Noodles and vegetables, no meat inside. No, NOMEAT.) Fried wontons = good.(It’s a crispy, almost-flat wonton with a bit of pork filling inside. Trust me, it’s good, especially with their sweet and sour sauce.) My friend said he enjoyed his beef noodle dish. I’ll need to come back and try more. :) Prices = reasonable. Service = curt but friendly. Seating = they’ve got enough for a decent crowd. A few 6-tops, 4-tops and a couple of big round tables.

This place was pretty good. Been here twice. The walnut prawn dish and Mongolian beef were pretty tasty and decent price for lunch menu.

There are very few places that truly deserve a one-star review, but young’s café is one of them. The service is non-existent and owners are incredibly rude. Avoid this place!

I’ve been eating at Young’s since 1983. They have a dish«Beef in Chinese Style» over rice, but I always get it over«crispy noodles.» It’s kind of a sweet and sour red sauce with lots of onions and green peas. It’s really really good.

We were expecting some really great Chinese food going here, but it ended up being pretty basic. The portions were small, but the prices matched. My Diet Coke was served to me in a can! No soy sauce on the table. The food was lacking flavor. Our waitress was kind and attentive. The restroom was downstairs, which was an interesting trip, my friend reported. The ground floor where we were seated holds 4 tables, but he said that downstairs there were many more tables. He said the restroom was clean. We were the only ones there on a Thursday night till someone came in just before we left. The ambiance needs some help. Nothing bad, just quite plain with faded signs and pictures taped to the wall. Food: 2 Service: 4 Ambiance: 3 Parking: 0 — No street parking available; had to park a few blocks away

Food is fresh & servers friendly. Why the 1 star then? I ordered my food to go. I specifically said no mushrooms as I’m allergic! When I was ½ way through my sizzling rice soup(which for some reason had no rice, btw) I found a mushroom! Great! So, now, as I’m waiting for my ride to leave work early & lose pay to go to the doctor, I figured I’d write my review before I get too sick. Thanks a lot Young’s! Maybe next time when someone says they have an allergy, you’ll pay attention! Between the loss of pay & the drs bill, this was the most expensive & disappointing soup ever!

Cheap, fast, yummy food, and friendly service! I advise ordering family style and sharing. Their hot and sour soup is my favorite, but their sautéed string beans come in as a close second. The dishes are flavorful but are also more on the salty end, so have your rice and tea ready! I’ve only been here for dinner, but I’ve heard their lunch specials are the better deals. Hope to check that out one of these days! Their restroom, and more tables, are located downstairs which is a bit odd, but guess it makes sense since space is so limited in the city. Parking may also be a bit difficult. Call in beforehand for takeout!

This place is cheap, good, fast, and friendly. They give you a free soup when you sit with water and tea. I’ve tried a few things on the menu and you really can’t go wrong. Especially when you have a hour lunch they will get you in and out to accommodate you. They have a variety of lunch specials and the prices are very reasonable. i would recommend coming here if you are craving some good Chinese food.

This place is cheap, fast, and darn good. I ordered an off-menu item: beef with asparagus over pan fried HK-style noodles. It was delicious, came with free soup, and was served with a smile. I will be back… likely tonight. Oops.

Yay, pan fried noodles cooked served fast(less than 10 mins)! The pan fried noodles aren’t on the menu, but they’re available with any of the noodle dishes upon request. I usually order it with chicken and mixed veggies. Yay, free house soup! Yay, $ 7 lunch specials! Yay, they accept credit card! Yay, I’d come back!

This is a convenient spot to grab a quick lunch. The décor leaves something to be desired, but the staff makes up for that with their friendly and welcoming attitude. You also can see the chef go at it in the kitchen! Food: Lunch Special: Spicy Fried Chicken w/Fried Rice: 8⁄10 Awesomeness Lunch Special: String Beans w/Minced Pork: 6⁄10 This dish is usually too salty, but it’s pretty tasty. Young’s Fried Rice: 4⁄10 I like the simple fried rice served on the side, but I don’t like the fried rice here when it has a bunch of other ingredients. My uncle owns his own restaurant and makes the best fried rice, chow mein, egg rolls, Chinese fried chicken, etc. I’ve ever had. I virtually always try these dishes at other Chinese restaurants, but it’s just never as good. The closest I’ve had is the combination fried rice at May Flower Berkeley. Egg rolls: 6⁄10 He hand makes these himself and they’re pretty good, but I’m not a fan of the filling he uses. Honey Walnut Prawns: 6⁄10 Pretty solid dish, but I’ve had better. Sweet and Sour Pork: 4⁄10 This is normally one of my favorite dishes at some restaurants, but it wasn’t that good here unfortunately. BBQ Pork Chow Mein: 6⁄10 Solid chow mein.

I’m a food snob! An over the top stereotypical food snob, I even have an imaginary checklist that i would mark off every time i see something i did not like, but today was different. We were walking toward R&G lounge and we saw the line out the door so we just went to the first place we saw. I didn’t even check Unilocal for the ratings until after i ordered. I guess when people see a 3 star restaurant — its a toss up if they will go or not. Everyone wants to go to the highest rated place or the trendiest, but in reality Unilocal is 80% filled with 3 star restaurants. So this time i decided not to be a food snob, but a normal person who just wants to eat. We sat down, the staff were extremely nice and polite and the food was cheap. Even tho it was cheap, the food tasted good. I guess my expectation for a 3 star restaurant is low, so i was pleasantly pleased. The food was fresh and not reheated and portions were just right. I think a lot of us overlook the 3 star restaurants and only go toward the 4+ stars even tho most of those places are over rated and all hype. i should make a Unilocal challenge to check out a 3star place that has less than 10 reviews. It was always a dream of mine to make a small time restaurant popular because someone read my review.
