Not a Cantonese speaker so «lunch combination» came out to be $ 5.25. It comes with rice and 3 options that you can point at and nod at to choose. I chose some grilled chicken, broccoli and a fish soft tofu medley. I thought it was just tofu, but SF surprise there was fish too. Overall, I thought it was a really good value and yummy, at least on this particular day. I’ve been here on one other occasion and I liked this time better. Maybe it was more my mood than this place, but that’s hard to say. It is definitely cheap and good enough for a return visit sometime in the future. Not a date place. Basically everything in the area is a hole in the wall depending on your level of fancy, so yeah. Casual, not good for kids.

San Francisco Chinatown: good Cantonese confort food. FOOD 3 Bowls Pork/Thousand Year Egg Jook, rice porridge, $ 1.50 ea 2 Cha shu rolls 1 Fun Gow 1 Har Gaw The four pieces of dim sum were under $ 2. I felt like a resident sitting here watching the locals. Seniors gathered at one communal table. The majority of patrons looked like people on their way to work and were there picking up take away orders. The jook was thick, adequately seasoned, and served generously. Both the Fun Gaw and Har Gow were okay, nothing outstanding about them. But the cha shu rolls? They were divine! Very tender, flakey crust wrapped around delicious bbq pork. A good little family dim sum restaurant.

I came here on Tuesday with my friend who speak chinese. First, i told him to order for me since i dont speak chinese. The employee was rude. The food was okay tho and its pretty cheap. A day after, I came here again by myself to try the other items. When I gave them the exact amount of money that i paid last time, the lady said that the money wasnt enough. Its just ridiculous how they charged me more just cuz i dont speak the language and stuff. Its really not about the money, its about them being honest.

Easily my favorite cheap spot in Chinatown. They have 5 types of porridge; get the pork stomach one because it’s awesome. It’s the one in the back row on the left. The bbq pork is good, the siu mai is good, everything is good. I had lunch here last week; porridge, 3 siu mai, and a chicken potato curry for only $ 4.30!

The customer service here is wonderful. The food is great Lunch time is extremely busy but worth the wait I already with the owner of this restaurant where they start cheating for bag and people are so naïve about it thinking they will get the bag I pay the price for a bag when needed and I always tip them for the wonderful job that they had done

My review is based on the food, not the restaurant as a whole: One of the most underrated Chinese restaurants that many people do not know about in SF. Their best deal is a three-item combo over rice for $ 4.50 and you get a ton of food(that’ll beat Panda Express every day of the year). Other recommended must-trys include the baked BBQ pork bun(with the special glaze), the beef rice rolls, and the many different varieties of porridge. Disclaimer: the three-item combo is not for light eaters; you are guaranteed to be extremely full if you plan on eating it by yourself.

My favorite(and cheapest) chinese restaurant in the city! I ate here 4 – 5 times a week between 2011 – 2012 and it really reminds me of my mom’s cooking. If you didn’t live in a fobby Cantonese household then you don’t get it. This is the stuff you see on the travel tv shows and what the Chinatown locals eat. Don’t let the dirty floor and sticky tables scare you off, take it to go and eat it at Washington square park. Their food is different everyday but you get a potpourri of wtf deliciousness. No sweet and sour chicken here. 3 items plus rice for $ 3.75 and the portions are huge. What I’m talking about… Salted Fish Pork Cakes Steamed spare ribs with fermented black beans and chili pepper 4 congees on tap but my favorite is lean pork and century egg($ 1.50 Huge bowl) Steamed ground pork with salted duck egg Winter melon soup Chinese broccoli with Oyster sauce Chicken in soy sauce Steamed fish Chinese steamed eggs lots of edible feet… chicken, duck, and pig etc… For the price and what you get this is definitely 5 stars. This place has never given me diarrhea… I think… YOLO

Slices of char siu, steamed rice and a veggie side adorned my lunch container to go. Cheap price for an okay /filling meal. It was nutso inside(ie crowded).

This location is definitely away from the tourist area of SF Chinatown. Here, i can here people yelling in canto and mandarin. I got the soy sauce chicken for dinner that night. The chicken was tender and heated up well in the oven. I’d say, for less than $ 5, it’s a steal. If you’re stuck on what to make for dinner, just get some chinese deli take out and make rice! Everyone enjoys a tasty and fast dinner at home.

Of all the dingy Chinese places to go to in Chinatown, this has to be one of the best values: a gigantic plate of rice, with one protein and two veg sides plus the requisite cup of tea. The food was tasty, not too greasy and definitely fit the objective of a cheap lunch. I found this place by wandering down the street looking for a Chinese restaurant that had locals in it rather than tourists. That always seems to work for me. I didn’t get any of the dim sum as it seemed that no one was touching the giant steam baskets while I was waiting in line. «Shu mai, unlike wine does not get better as it ages.» That’s an old Chinese saying. Look it up.

4 stars for bringing back the various porridges! For $ 1.50, it’s a steal! Their porridge is thick and flavorful. Our favorite(my mom’s too) is the salted pork with pork stomach, delicious! They also have: watercress w/duck gizzard, salted pork w/thousand year egg and roasted pork bone w/peanut. Their dim sums are disappointing. First, it’s not hot. We tried the chiu chow dumpling(hubby’s favorite) and it was just ok. The shrimp dumpling was not good at all. The beef noodle roll is ok, not much flavor. One item I’m looking forward to try is the pig intestines w/pickled mustard green. It looks mighty promising.

Yummy BBQ Kitchen, has a great price on their foods. Pretty much the 3 items combo are most worth it when your hungry. Will come back again!!! =)

This is the former Mon Kiang and it’s pretty much the same on the inside. It’s a go-to for lazy saturday take-out lunch. $ 3.80 for rice and 3 dishes. It’s such a big packet I normally have enough for lunch and a «snack» later on. They also have dim sum and roasted meats. Out of all the cheap dim sum places that populate chinatown, they are actually one of the best. It’s consistently warm and the shrimp in the siu-mai and har-gow is actually quite fresh considering it’s 3 for $ 1.40. The real star here however is this one lady behind the counter whom I fondly regard as an adopted aunty. She never fails to make sure I have enough to eat and that I am eating well at that. Makes me smile just thinking of it.

For $ 3.50, you can create your own lunch box with 3 items. $.30 extra for take out. This place is not bad. Not as greasy as the other ~$ 3 bucks lunch box places. Portion is huge, enough for at least 2 meals. A little more selections compare to other places too! Today, I tried their little fried fishes, Chinese squash, and scramble eggs with bbq pork & misc meats… Little fried fishes are crunchy and pretty darn tasty! This place is nothing spectacular, but for lunch under $ 4, it’s pretty awesome. I usually go to $ 3 lunch box places when I have no cravings for any food, and just wanna fill my tum. And Chinese Homecooking does just that.
