Wow — I always expected the Chinese to take over just about everything eventually — but I never imagine that it would begin with cakes and coffee. This place is clean — and amazing. Nearly every bread-good has a free sample — and there are a lot of choices. Sure — this is NOT a nice fresh Italian Bakery in Little Italy in New York — with all of the great Italia breads —- but it is a damned good fake version of it. And what are the Chinese BEST at when it comes to «Aping» European and American cultural«Nisbits»? The Chinese are really good at imitating them in a sterile and well-organized way. It is not cheaper — but it is almost as good. And unfortunately for the Italian-Americans in Los Angeles at least — there are not enough of them to support an abundance of «true» Italian bakeries. But there are plenty of Chinese to do it. SO — we must look to this amazing and growing immigrant group to make our European baked goods from now on. And if we can get over the fact that they put pork and sugar in their some of their breads — we are all going to be okay.

The first time I went there to give it a try it really amazed me! The size of the breads are huge and the taste are great!!! I haven’t seen a bakery like this for a long time. My family enjoy the quality a lot. BUT, last time we wnt there we found that most of the breads are almost half of their original size!!! The price lower a little bit though, but still…

Like their Garclic Cheese bread & Blue Mtn Chocolate is fine. Lemon yogurt bread’s «ok». They do have a few kinds of cranberry bread. With walnut or other mixtures. Multi-Grain bread is not bad as well. Egg pudding is decent, but not«wow». Kinda like the packaging(the jar). Boba milk tea is average/fine. Too sweet even with«less sweet». A decent alternative when you don’t want to walk over to Tea Station.

Bake Code, located in the notorious San Gabriel Square, is– what I wanna say a new addition to the plaza. I hadn’t seen it before last time I came here. The thing is, I HAVE heard of Bake Code before. They opened one on Nogales St in Rowland Heights, replacing the now defunct Cube Bakery. So that’s the one I frequent the most!(and I guess eat all the carbs in the world). The Bake Code here is located near the Sam Woo side of the plaza. Going in, they have 2 rows where you can get bread, where you can choose what you want to eat today: P. With them, I’m not as impressed because their selection, while maybe the same, is lacking a little bit compared to the R.H. location. It seems they have less bread out and less«choices» at the same time. Their way of sampling bread(YESYOUCANSAMPLETHEIRBREAD) is better because they have a toothpick tray and many more mini trash cans to throw your toothpicks in. Things you can get: Lemon yogurt cranberry. That one is good: D If you want to try their(insert fruit, usually cranberry)-cream cheese breads, the Crown is the one I usually get. I also like eating the garlic bread because it’s «different» from the rest(you’ll see when you look at the colors of the bread). This area is kinda squishy and really small, but the rest of the store has a lot of space. Why? Because they have an area you can study in! Yay. Tables for you to sit at and study or pass time while eating bread. They also have desserts here and drinks you can try(have not tried them yet). Since this location is close to other SGV bakeries, you can come here if you like the style of breads they have. They’re different from stereotypical breads. Otherwise you can hit up 85C in Alhambra. OHWAIT I JUSTREALIZEDTHEYOPENEDTHATUPAND I DIDN’T GONOOOOOO. Oh My Pan a couple blocks down is good if you want to try green tea/red bean/taro breads. :P

It is hard to not compare Bake Code to the plentiful other Korean/Taiwanese bakeries around SGV. Yes, they do have a limited selection of bread in comparison to Paris Baguette or 85 Degrees but they have breads that others do not offer. Certainly, the bread here is not as aesthetically beautiful but they are so much larger in size. Take a look at the pictures other Unilocalers took and you will know what I mean. A lot of their bread look like big flavored bagels. But they are actually quite soft and not as tough as bagels. They are also flavorful and not too bland. I definitely like that they have little bags/containers for samples next to each bread they have, so you can taste their entire collection. They were not stingy about the samples and they have someone that constantly comes to replenish the sample containers/bags. I ended up choosing a cheese roll and a cheese triangle. I usually do not like cheese but these were flavored perfectly so that I did not feel over– or underwhelmed by cheese. For the size of their bread, the price($ 2-$ 4) is not unreasonable. They do offer boba here. We got their pearl milk tea. It was $ 4 for a large, which is quite pricey for the area. It was really fragrant though and I have yet been to a place in SGV that provided boba milk tea that did not taste watered down or like powder. The pearls were soft and chewy, so I am pleased with the drink overall. The store is actually quite large. They have quite a few tables and chairs to sit and chill and they do not look like they are often very packed; so finding seating should not be a problem. I definitely would not mind visiting again and trying all their breads.
