I thought the coffee here was gross($ 4) but this is not the place to come for food or drinks(they also have smoothies, the waitress recommended avocado smoothie). Instead, come here to hang out, smoke inside, and play random games with friends. This place definitely has that seedy Asia vibe to it. I asked the waitress: «So what’s on the menu?» She says: «I am the menu.» Classic.

This is only the second Vietnamese Coffee joint I’ve ever been to. I too was told that this place was filled with Vietnamese gangsters. When you walk in, everyone stares at you and then return to their games or conversations. It doesn’t seem like a very welcoming place. The coffee was great though. The waitresses were nice enough.

This my first time coming here to this Vietnamese coffee shop meet up friends. I’ve been to difference Vietnamese coffee in SGV area, but this place not bad at all. The waitress work in place are hot and dress very tight cloth. When I first walking into this place, someone were singing Vietnamese Karaōke, and a lot of guys sit around playing poker and arcade games. The guys singing Vietnamese karaōke actually not bad, but when it come to English songs it’s like FTW! The ice coffee not bad at all, but I think they add a little to much of ice on my cup :(. Oh yeah, this place let you smoke inside just like any other coffee shop around in this area. Me and buddy didn’t stay very long, because we wanted to play some pool in Alhambra.

After grabbing lunch with my friend Greg A. he insist that we grab some coffee. So I’m like«Sure, why the hell not». We then drive over to Hanh Hoa and he keeps telling me that this is place is packed with Vietnamese Gangsters… And that how weird it’s going to look with a white guy and a filipino guy walk into a full on Viet Café… So I’m like«Wow, nice, I hope the coffee is good at least». We get to Hanh Hoa and from the outside, all the windows are blacked out and looks like a pool hall from the outside. But in the inside, it’s filled with tables, video arcade machines, and a bunch of guys chillin playing Mahjong and poker. We were greeted and given a complimentary iced tea in addition I ordered an Iced Coffee. $ 3.50 for the glass of Iced Coffee, not bad but it could have definitely had more flavor and a hell of a lot less ice in it. Place overall was chill. Good place to just catch up with some friends and hell maybe play some mahjong while your at it. Just don’t walk in throwin up gang signs or your ass will be in the menu.

Part 3 of the Vietnamese Coffee Crawl. This place actually fits the name of Café Nhac if they decided to use that name. Walking into this place full of old school Vietnamese karaōke songs with an old crooner belting out the songs behind us as we stared at the monitor. This place definitely contrasts with the previous two we had visited. The first one felt like scenester’s frat house hangout at Coffee House. The second one felt like a subdue bohemian café at Café Window. While this one felt like an authentic café nhac that we heard so much about. I was stoked about this place because we definitely encounter hot chicks working behind the counter. The low top beneath the Material girl’s outfit with high heels would make Cyndi Lauper proud. This place had a Vietnamese seafood restaurant going on with their low class look and a debonair of an authentic low brow gangsta look. We weren’t as nervous going as the first one as we pretty popped the Vietnamese coffee cherry by now. So we were pretty excited about coming here. As agreed beforehand, we stuck to the routine of ordering ice coffee for our group and just enjoyed the atmosphere like if we were dive bar hopping along with the hipsters along Silverlake. Then something kicked me in the gut like a bat out of hell. My acid reflex finally kicked in and my stomach have took its toll after three rounds of ice coffee. This round wasn’t that good either as compared to the sweet rich iced coffee of Café Window. We could have ordered some Vietnamese snacks that was offered here, but we decided to pass that. Too bad the coffee didn’t stay down as smooth as the other two place. This is probably the most ghetto and divey place of all our Vietnamese coffee crawl. Which meant it’s the most authentic and deserved that coffee nhac name since it actually have a karaōke machine that reflect the concert music. The price for the ice coffee wasn’t that bad as it was $ 4 per tall glass. The glass was very skinny like a tall shot glass you would see at a fine dining restaurant. With that, we bid adieu to our Vietnamese coffee crawl, but we scouted and seen at least two more places before we left SGV for the night. It was an adventure, but make sure you bring some Rolaids for this kind of crawl.
