They have awesome happy hour deals which are all day Sunday. Lucky Valentine’s day happened to be on a Sunday. Their specialty rolls are amazing so I had to get the red Dragon roll even though it’s not a happy hour deal. They were super accommodating and brought us small glasses and shot glasses to do sake bombs because what’s Valentine’s day without sake bombs. Their fried green tea ice cream was so delicious and gorgeous split in half with whipped cream chocolate sauce and a hibiscus flower. Come here and get full, you won’t be disappointed.

Food is good but the service was pretty slow. I feel like the chef doesn’t work fast enough. I had wait 15 minutes for my edamame. Did mention that I’m a sushi chef? But this place really need to be more organize with their communication.

Saw a lot of good reviews about this place, so decided to give it a try ! Especially there are only 2 $$ signs on Unilocal! It was during Chinese New Year evening this year, so we went in and ask for some recommendations from the server ! The crab the server recommended cost about 80 dollar a serving ! Wasn’t expecting 3 items total would be over $ 130 dollar for just 2 people ! Food was not so bad. The recommendation was not sincere but to push the ABSOLUTE the MOSTEXPENSIVE items!!! After the meal me and my mother started to vomit and having stomach pain! But after committing out the raw fish and the crab everything felt much better ! Don’t trust the server and just order the happy hr item or cooked item ! The raw food there is not very fresh and definitely has some issues ! If u like to give it a try, try to stay away from the specials and their raw food! My opinion, not worthy to try!

My favorite go-to neighborhood sushi spot. Great«happy hour» pricing on food and drinks all day Tuesday through Thursday, and 5 – 7 Friday through Sunday. Staff is friendly too. Heads up, they’re closed on Mondays.

Best sushi place! Quality, price, and service were all outstanding! We got edamame, shishito peppers, yellowtail carpaccio, miso soup, ½ dozen oysters, sexy geisha roll, and multiple sushi: albacore, octopus, and salmon. It was melt-in-your-mouth, high quality fish and large favorful oysters! Coming back soon as it was a great experience and everything tasted amazing. Total bill came in at just under $ 70!

Not a bad place for Happy Hour! My boyfriend and I heard about the yakitori here and were happy to find that happy hour was all day from Tuesday to Thursday. When it comes yakitori and sushi, these small bites often add up but No 1 Kazoku gets you tummy stuffed for a great price during happy hour. This place definitely gives you the best of both worlds in two very different styles of Japanese cuisine. Most of the yakitori were priced around $ 1.50 to $ 3.25 and came with 5 – 6 pieces of meat on each stick. Served on the side was a spicy yuzu sauce for dipping. Pork belly and chicken skin are a must-try here. The meat is grilled to perfection and comes out smokey, succulent and flavorful. For the more adventurous eater, they also have chicken gizzards, chicken heart and other little organ tidbits. I was also pleasantly surprised by how tasty the sushi was here for its price point. $ 4 sushi rolls and $ 3 – 5 appetizers. My expectations for happy hour sushi aren’t very high but the quality here was super fresh while the portions sizes were generous. I ordered the salmon roll and salmon belly sushi and both pieces were memorably delicious.

Pretty good sushi for the area but kind of pricey. I came here on a Saturday afternoon and there wasn’t many people seated. Service was decent for having one waitress for 3 tables. Parking can get insane since you’re fighting for spots with people going to 99 ranch or the other stores in this plaza. And having Asian drivers makes it more of a challenge. The premium sashimi deluxe lunch combination for $ 32 came with miso soup, house salad, steamed rice, and a variety of sashimi(2 toro, 2 salmon belly, 2 salmon, salmon roe in cucumber, 2 yellowtail, spicy salmon, 1 halibut, 2 octopus, 1 sweet shrimp, 1 fried shrimp head). The premium sushi lunch combo had 9 pieces of nigiri(tamago, sweet shrimp, octopus, amberjack, salmon, salmon belly, yellow tail, halibut, and toro), miso soup, and house salad for $ 24. You’d think it was a rip off because of number of nigiri pieces but the fish were a decent size, especially compared to the amount of rice. The salmon belly was marvelous. It melted in my mouth like butter. The quality of the fish was fresh, but some cuts had a fishy component to it. Overall, I enjoyed my sushi here. It’s a bit pricey, but the lunch combo is worth it since the dinner menu is more expensive and doesn’t come with soup or salad. I’d visit again if I wanted sushi in the SGV area.

This place is right across the street from the Hilton and this place is the excellent! We came for an early afternoon snack(about 10 minutes before their closing time) and they let us in. We ordered a wide variety of stuff including oysters, sea urchin, fresh shrimp and sashimi; of course we also got some sushi and udon for the kids. Although pricey(but then again all Japanese food is pricey) Everything was very good. They do have oyster happy hour in the evening and staff here are friendly. There’s quite a bit of Asian pop stars that come here(maybe because they stay across the street at the Hilton when they come here for concerts). Cool place!

Cute little place with decent food and heck of a happy hour menu. I came here on a Tuesday night for happy hour with my girls and had a great time. A pitcher of Sapporo or Asahi was $ 10. They have $ 10 for ½ dozen oysters(ok, not great). They also have rolls and appetizers on the HH menu. Some of my favorite items were Shishito Peppers and Agedashi Tofu. Service was nice. Parking can be a little difficult because of the compact parking spots. This place is right next to Tea Station and right across from San Gabriel Hilton. I’d come back for their HH again!

Wowie, this place is amazing! I love, love, love sushi and it can sometimes be very difficult to find a great sushi place. Look no further than here, though! The rolls and sashimi are at the right price and freshness. The service has been phenomenal. The servers and managers recognized us even though we only came one time before! My boyfriend is NOT a sushi person(allergies) but even he was able to indulge in the yakitori chicken breast, sausage and miso soup. A little something for everyone. My new go to spot for sushi for sure!

Brought the kids here before a SGHS football game. It was the rugrats first foray into the world of sushi. Can’t say they liked it, but there’s no accounting for taste. I loved this place and would definitely go back. What we had and enjoyed: Spicy tuna crispy rice(YUM, just as good as Katsuya which is the gold standard), all the skewers we had especially the rib eye and the bacon wrapped asparagus. Kids liked the cucumber roll and tempura. Great tuna sashimi and yellowtail too. Skip the pork belly though as it was very fatty and not worth it. Service was super great, very personable. Loved it. Will go back for sure. Maybe just with the hubs so we can pig out on sushi!

Great service and great food for a Saturday night. Good stuff: Sashimi roll Sexy geisha roll Salmon skin salad Red dragon roll Seaweed salad The big oysters Blue crab roll I don’t recommend because it tasted like a California roll and the crab was plain, I’m thinking its imitation crab Chicken wing-was okay Lamb gizzard smelly, I hate lamb but my brother loves it and said its good Pork belly gizzard– good Filet on a stick-good Ribeye on a stick-not bad, okay Lol I don’t know how to describe the food, everything had a nice presentation with the flowers and banana leaf. Nothing tasted old. Although the workers are Chinese, Vietnamese, and Indonesian, I do not mind. I would come back for the food. Free ice cream with Unilocal check in!

This place is my go-to for cheap but quality sushi. If you go during happy hour the price for their rolls is unbeatable. Depending on the day/time that you go though, the service can leave you wanting more… it can also leave you wanting your food because they’re so slow. Regardless, you’re always getting quality cuts of fish at a very affordable price. I would definitely say come here for good cheap sushi.

So far I’m a BIG fan of this place! They have HH on Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday ALLDAYLONG!!! The HH menu is very expansive and will have something for everyone, yakitori, sushi. BOOZE. I’ve come here twice now and have probably tried well over a dozen items. Here are some of my top picks: shishito peppers, spicy tuna rice crispy, calamari, shrimp tempura, any tempura roll, bacon wrapped asparagus, sausages, meatballs, lamb yakitori, and of course the $ 2 draft beers! If you love having variety as much as I do, you really can’t go wrong here. Everything is like $ 3 – 6 so the prices really can’t be beat!

A great sushi find in the SGV. They also serve very good yakitori which comes with a green sauce that my girlfriend is a huge fan of. The portions are quite good and I really like their chirashi bowl as well as most of the rolls. They also have really good wasabi! It might sounds strange, but the wasabi is one of the many reasons why I will keep coming back. They must be mixing something in it because I see tiny white things in my soy sauce when I mix it in. (Forgot to take pictures of the rolls and chirashi)

Yummy Japanese place next to ten rens! Price is not bad either. They have happy hour all day tues-thurs! Rolls are are around $ 8 – 10, small cut rolls around $ 5, nigiri around $ 5/2pc, yaki tori around $ 5 a skewer. Small sake and beer around $ 3. Oysters around $ 18/half dozen. Their rolls are meh. They taste average and like any other cheapish sushi rolls. I would definitely skip on this next time. Yaki tori was really good! Sorta pricey but their meat is really juicy and flavorful. Also comes with yuzu sauce on the side which is also good. My favorite was the squid and ribeye. I liked how the squid was more like mini octopus(including the legs). I would pass on the lamb — it was dry. Nigiri was nice, thick, and buttery. I would reorder this. Also put some of the yuzu sauce from the yaki tori on the yellowtail! :) Oysters were good. Nothing amazing. I wouldn’t reorder because there’s tons of $ 1 oyster places in LA for cheaper. But if I’m craving it and don’t want to drive, at least their oyster isn’t sandy and gooey as other cheap places in the area. I would definitely return, but stick to the yaki tori and nigiri!

I came here a year ago when it used to be R2 Kazoku, and my review is still on their closed page. All they did was change their name. Came here twice now and still has a few minor disappointments. Sadly they don’t have soju. The spider roll was over cooked. Tasted dry and burnt. :/it was hard to even want to eat it! the sexy geisha roll was good, and also the Japanese burrito was pretty good too! Also, NONE of our rolls came with wasabi and ginger. Why? Are we supposed to ask for it? All sushi places give it so. The tempura ice cream was good but it took longer than the sushi ! The sushi came out fast but the ice cream took awhile. We saw in the distance that our ice cream was sitting on the counter but nobody was bringing it out.. When we got the ice cream is was already starting to melt and was dripping as we ate. The good thing about this place is the and they’re open late. Pricing is normal. Staff is friendly. I gave this place a second chance and I probably won’t be coming back. :/

A small Japanese sushi and Yakitori joint in a large Chinese mall in the SGV. I’ve come twice now, and I like the food a good deal, though I do think their prices are quite high for the area and the amount of food. I have put up photos of their menu, as the website and older photos show a much larger menu that no longer exists. There is a small lot in the back of the restaurant for parking, but they are part of a large mall, so you can easily find parking in the larger mall area. Staff is friendly and attentive. Sushi chefs seemed to have a fun time with regulars at the bar. The first time I went for dinner. I got the garlic edamame, which was delicious. I had the ebi sunomono, which unfortunately seemed to simply be placed on the vinegar instead of pickled. I had to stir it up to get any taste on the cucumber. I had the rib eye, filet mignon, and chicken breast yakitori. The chicken breast is by far my favorite, with a teriyaki sauce and large pieces of chicken. The filet mignon is decent. You can get it with teriyaki sauce or plain and dip it in a yuzu style dip. The rib eye tends to be too chewy and fatty for my liking. Also got an appetizer of the gyoza, which they do not sell except at lunch and Happy Hour. They were decent, but the second time I went it was obvious they are frozen as the gyoza came out half hot and half still frozen on the bottom. The beef teriyaki and salmon teriyaki were delicious, but you only get 4 oz. of protein and no rice or salad or soup. No Bento Boxes. Everything is separate. Since they do combo boxes for lunch, I would recommend they add them to dinner. Otherwise, things seem too expensive. The second time I went I came for the Happy Hour, which I believe is 5−7pm. It’s a good way to try appetizers and save some money. However, I did notice that some items like the Shrimp Tempura are dropped by a couple bucks yet at the same time also are smaller portions. If you drop a shrimp and cut 2 bucks, it’s a smaller portion, not really a Happy Hour deal. Still, the food is good. I just wish they had a larger menu, combo boxes for dinner, and maybe brought the prices down a tad.

I’m surprised that this place isn’t more crowded since the food here is so good! I’ve come a couple of times and have tried a pretty good amount of their dishes and each time I’ve never been disappointed. The owner, Johnny, is really nice and is actually at the restaurant helping out and greeting customers, something you don’t ordinarily see. Happy hour is from Tuesday-Thursday and beer is super cheap(only $ 2 for a mug!). They have a really great selection of rolls and if you don’t care too much for fish/raw food, they have AMAZING yakitori. It tastes just like how it would in Asia. Some of my favorite dishes here: Spicy tuna rice crispy: Probably one of their most popular dishes, it’s spicy tuna on top of crispy rice topped with a thinly sliced jalapeño and dipped in a sweet soy sauce. This is super addicting but beware of the jalapeño! –Sashimi roll: An assortment of sashimi, crab meat, and asparagus wrapped in soy paper and topped with different colors of tobiko(flying fish roe). A really beautiful dish and super yummy to boot. –Spider roll: Because who doesn’t love spider rolls… All of the yakitori is amazing, but I especially love the chicken heart/chicken tail. Ribeye or filet mignon is good if you’re feeling fancy. The eggplant is also very very good but if you don’t like very soft foods you may want to skip this. Not only is everything grilled to perfection, all the yakitori come with an addicting yuzu dipping sauce on the side. The sashimi here is very fresh as well(market price). +1 for serving it on shiso leaf, my favorite :). My favorite is the hamachi. This is a small place and the service is quite efficient(shoutout to Elliot for being an awesome and patient waiter). Servers come frequently to top off your hot tea/iced water. I’m still dreaming about that chicken heart skewer, and I’d like to try the monkey brains someday(mushroom stuffed with spicy tuna/crab meat and tempura fried). They also have kaiseki/omakase options if you’re feeling fancy but tbh I like just getting a crap ton of dishes and splitting it with everyone sort of izakaya-style. I hope this place stays open forever…
