Retro clad staff slinging dim sum goodness. They have all the classics at decent prices and good quality. But I didn’t see anything super unique. One dish that surprised me was a rice roll and pork short rib item. The rice rolls had a nice consistency, not to chewy, and had a flavorful sauce. While this place is Shanghainese, the siumai were huge, but the juicy buns were tiny. We came a tad before 11am on a Sunday and were seated right away.

Pros/cons: –Right when I walked in, I was extremely impressed with its décor. This place is styled like a early 1900s Shanghai restaurant. It felt like I walked into a movie! –The food is pretty good. Their dim sum menu was pretty standard and similar to many other dim sum places in the area. But they do have some dishes that Cantonese dim sum places don’t usually carry. –Portions are big, relative to other dim sum places at an affordable price. $ 9-$ 12 dollars person should be expected. Recommendations: Your standard dim sum items such as pork buns, egg tart, etc.

For the price of the dishes here, one really expects better tasting food. While not bad, much of the food is just«so-so». Their Sheng Jian Bao is mediocre, as the dough is lacking in flavor. Most of their stir fry dishes are highly overpriced, given the taste and quality. The only unique dish that I enjoyed was the chicken in rice wine. In addition, service was quite slow and not particularly friendly. We tried it once, and probably won’t be coming back.

I have ordered several seafood but none of them appeared to be fresh or delicious… maybe its flavor didn’t fit me but I will not go there again.

Just don’t eat here. The cashier(I believe who owns this place) was mean and just don’t give a fxxk. I wanted to give it a try few weeks ago and it took them an hour to cook 3 dishes. Oh wait, after an hour while we were still waiting for out last dish to come, the cashier threw a check on our table and I told her we’re still missing on dish. She responded«yes I know.» While she was walking without turning her head back. After 30 minutes I got impatient and I asked one of the waiter to check my food and it turned out they didn’t even start cooking it they forgot. Guess the owner didn’t really care.

Some dishes tastes good, but last time I had a bad experience. I ordered a crab by weight(20 something per pound), and I was told 2 pound for one. When I got it, it’s really not big. They charged me 2.75 pound. I believe the crab which we got is maximum 2 pound. If charged me less than 2.5, it’s OK. But 2.75 is too much.

Would come back here just for the ambiance! Like other reviews have mentioned, the décor makes you feel like you’re in a glamorous, old Shanghai restaurant, with all the crystal chandeliers and velvet dining chairs. Came here for dinner with family and ordered six dishes to share! Of all the dishes we tried I absolutely loved the sheng jian bao(fried pork buns) — deliciously juicy in the center and the dough was fried to be perfectly crispy on the outside but chewy on the inside. 10⁄10 would recommend! The other dishes were definitely quality as well but not as outstanding as the sheng jian bao.

Took my mom and uncle there last night for dinner. I have to say the experience was horrifying. First, was the owner who is trying to help us ordering, we’ve already ordered 10 dishes for only 6 people, she still urge us to order two more dishes with the concern of «the food might not be enough for us» and the things she recommended are lobster, crab and fish which all marked as market price. Secondly, it took them 1 and hour to bring all the dishes and many of the dishes are warm but not hot. There is merely no service at all, we have to constantly beg for bowls to split the soup. Waiters was super annoyed by the fact that we order too much and the dishes would not fit the table. Instead of helping us solve the problem, all they hoped for were one of us would take the plate, so they can rush to somewhere else. Therefore we became our own waiter by merging similar plates and stacking them together. Lastly, was the bill it was super expensive. we’ve spend $ 270 for a family style restaurant with merely no service and ok food. What a waste to the nicely designed Ambiance.

My family made a reservation for a party of 32 people for Christmas day ONEMONTHAGO. We ordered the $ 48810-banquet course per table, for 3 tables. We arrived at 11:30AM and the place was packed. Whatevers, we made our reservation one month ago + security deposit. We should be okay, right?. NAAAAAAAAAAAAAHH. 1) They didn’t even remove our empty dishes(mostly appetizers). didn’t bring us water. didn’t give us new/clean plates. didn’t refill our tea. didn’t serve our main courses until an hour later … gave us PLASTICFORKSANDSPOONS . 2) It took 3 hours for them to serve us our 10 course. SERIOUSLY? 3 hours??? We sat there waiting for our food from 11:30AM to 3PM. 3) We literally had to go to the kitchen ourselves to get our own water, tea, and new plates because the servers just neglected us The service was so bad. This alone just ruined the whole mood for many of us. Some of us were not able to stay for the whole 10 course because the restaurant was taking too damn long to serve us. We had to rush them to serve us our last 3 courses + dessert. because it was already 2:45 . The bill came out to be a little over $ 2000. They didn’t break down anything in the receipt — just gave a grand total. Lol. shady, greedy chinese establishment with zero service.

Sometimes the food at a restaurant is so good that it makes up for the appalling lack of service — said me never. I will always take great service above ok food and this was no exception. The food is fine here — not amazing which is what you’d expect from the lines and the endorsement by Jonathan Gold. But the service was atrocious — it took so long to take our order that we considered walking out. The pacing as terrible and it was overall a bad experience. There are plenty of places around here with great good and good service, so avoid this place.

Good food and affordable prices. We ordered the infamous pan fried pork dumplings after looking through several pictures on Unilocal. Not bad. This place is pretty much standard dim sum with traditional Chinese décor. They had a good amount of tables. I’m not sure if there was a wait for us since my family arrived first to get a table. But on the way out there was a small crowd waiting near the door. Service was decent. I’d probably come again if there’s nothing new in the area.

Please to don’t patronize this restaurant. I came here ordering a good bunch of food. We had a 10percent off coupon and we asked the waiter if we could use it. He gave us a pissed face and said yes. So we went on ahead and ordered the sweet and sour fish, braised pork, everything that it was supposingly famous for. We had our dish out quite late with people coming in later than us having their food out first. Well, we ordered the same thing and why did the others have their food first? Then, when the food finally came it tasted okay. But the fish thou, the fish that we came here for tasted really faulty. One taste and you know that the fish was jot fresh at all. All the sweet and sour sauce could not cover that faulty. Well, I guess we are simple people and are not very demanding. What pissed me off real good that prompted me to write this review is the way the waiter treated when we wanted to pay. He indirectly forced us to write down the tip in front of him. He told my friend the tip should be based on the original price, not the discounter 10percent off price and he stayed by his side waiting to see my friend actually writing down his tip on the bill. We haven’t even leave the place, my friend signed the bill and the waiter took away the bill right in front of us while we are all still sitting down. I don’t want to think this way but I am highly suspicious that we were treated the way we were because we had that 10 percent coupon and we did not dress in Gucci and Prada?

Came here with some friends for dim sum. I felt the highlight of the restaurant is the décor. Decorated to look like an early 1900’s Shanghai restaurant, it’s fun to look around. When that novelty wore away, I realized the food was just okay. The shrimp dumplings took the show in our parade of dim sum dishes. Large, plump shrimp in the dumpling really steal the show. The sau mai were not the traditional Shanghainese version, instead they were the Cantonese version which felt a little out of place. Everything else was just okay, nothing special. they did not have(or at least I didn’t see on the menu) Xiao long bao. They did have the pan fried buns(sheng jian bao) but we didn’t try it. The service was spotty at times, ie below average, sadly that is the norm at many Chinese restaurants. At least they kept out tea pot filled. One of the best things about this restaurant it is located in a restaurant dense section of Valley Blvd, so if you are looking for desserts, more food, etc after your meal there are plenty of choices nearby!

This place is pretty cool. I really like how they’ve themed the whole restaurant in old school shanghai, it feels like im in one of those gangster chinese movies. The staff is also really nice. The food is good, some of it may be a little strange because you will not usually find these dishes in any regular chinese restaurant. We had the banquet style set, which one, im not really sure. Dont really remember what was what but i put up pictures of it all. Some of the dishes were really good and a couple fell short, but over all i really enjoyed this place. Definitely need to come back the next time i visit la for the dim sum here.

This is my favorite dim sum place in San Gabriel. The service isn’t the best but they are quick and really do give you a lot for your money. I love the pork dumplings and BBQ pork steamed dumplings. I also always get their jasmine green tea to start and share. The Mongolian steak is good too just a little salty. The egg custard desert is so good and a must to get at the end of your meal. Also please try the egg rolls and green beans to start.

Shanghai Surprise — — — — — — — — According to my Shanghainese friend, there is apparently 8 distinct styles of «Chinese» food — Shanghainese being one of the eight. If you don’t know what to order, don’t worry the menu will blow you away. I literally mean the actual menu. Its as thick as a yellow pages telephone book with beautifully photographed glossy photos of all the dishes. Just point to the picture. This style of cuisine suits my palate. I do like cold dishes and non-western textures in food(gelatinous) Its not over seasoned, mild, yet very flavorful without being too salty. –braised pork belly in a clay pot — not bad but a bit overrated. B –steamed red snapper. B+ –cold raw whole shrimp in a marinade — this was amazing. A –lotus root: I love this Shanghai style: A+ –cold jelly fish: again different than Chinese jelly fish I’ve had: Crunchy and gelatinous at the same time! A+ –cold pork served in cubes of jelly– not a fan C+ –fish soup– eh C This place can be on the pricey side if ordering seafood. But well worth it!

This review is for the pan fired soup dumplings, the best I ever had. Soft texture on the top with nice sesame flavored crunchy bottom and you mix it all together with a great soup in one bite, and it was not salty!

This is one of the most gorgeous and the most decorative Chinese restaurants you’ll find. We left completely satisfied and stuffed. We ordered almost entirely off of the dimsum menu. The theme is 1920’s Shanghai complete with paper boy waiters(wish I took a pic of the guy). –pork buns: glazed, sweet bread with BBQ pork. Who doesn’t love this? –meatballs– a little gelatinous and not too flavorful. Not my fav. –fried turnip cake: Crispy, salty goodness. Har gow-the biggest har gows that I’ve seen in my life! They contained many pieces of seasoned, juicy shrimp and were delicious. I did feel as if the skin itself was not thin enough though. It was basically slightly above average on the dim sum spectrum. –Pan fried buns/sheng jian baos: These were one of the first things on our tables and was THE favorite of the night. I don’t know if our taste was affected by our hunger to be honest but the buns were so juicy and filled with flavor. It had the perfect consistency: crunchy on the outside and juicy in the inside. — Steamed rice noodles– I’ve had better overseas but its still pretty good. A little too thick for my taste. — Coconut cakes with yellow custard– came out fresh and gooey. The tart went well with a hint of coconut. Not too sweet. Overall food 4⁄5 stars Ambiance: 5⁄5 stars Restroom 5⁄5 stars. I didn’t know clean restrooms existed for Chinese restaurants. Bravo to you Shanghai No 1 Seafood village! Bravo!

This place is so pretty with their decorations. Really gives you that feel like when you are in shanghai. Located upstairs in a plaza same as boiling point. Came here with family on a Sunday afternoon around 12 and we didn’t have to wait! Almost all tables were filled except a big table for us and a small table. The service is great! We were a table of 9 people. 3 chairs were a lil shorter. They saw my parents sitting in those small short chairs and quickly change it for us to make then feel comfortable! Ordered so much food we had to take some home! Be sure to order the pan fried pork bread as they are very juicy and crunchy on the bottom of the bread !

Went here Sunday afternoon a little before lunch. I had bookmarked this place due to their claim to having yummy xiao long bao and shengjianbao. The place looked very lovely. Although I found the chair designs a big tacky but overall the place has a nice upscale flair to it. The prices were certainly not bad and won’t hurt your piggy bank. Even the waiters and waitresses were dressed in Shanghai 1920’s like outfits. The service was better good too. I thought it was weird they were selling Cantonese food here. Dim Sum originated from Canton. Shrug. We ordered some Dim Sum dishes and a couple of xiao long baos and shengjianbaos. BBQ pork buns were fantastic. We both enjoyed the sweet fluffy bun and the filling inside. Shumai was huge. It’s like it was on steroids. Typically they’re a bit smaller. They tasted good not as flavorful as I expected. My fiancé is a big fan of shengjianbao so he wanted to see if it was any better than Kang Kang Food Court. Long story short, he didn’t like the buns. I thought the buns were fine but didn’t taste right. The skin they used for shengjianbao was more like a fluffy bread they use in mantou than the dumpling skin. I think they used that because it was a lot easier to keep the dumplings from ripping and spilling out juice. I enjoyed the bread but the meat and the gelatin flavor wasn’t meaty enough not like Kang Kang’s. The xiao long bao was good. It was very juicy and delicious. I would recommend getting the BBQ pork buns and xiao long bao here.
