On a hot summer day, ice cream from a monkey-themed crêpe shop is the way to go. For 5 bucks, cash only, we got a scoop of cookies and cream and a scoop of green tea, & we’re happy. Since crepes seem to take a while, our ice cream ordering and getting took a bit, even with 3 people working there. It was all good, with top 40/90s music blasting and lots to look at. The ice cream was good, not great. Cone was stale so I’d opt for just a cup. Next time if I’m in the area I’d get an affogato.

This place looks pretty unassuming from the outside but there’s often a small crowd of people outside and it’s a popular spot. I loved the inside though, because there were monkeys and monkey themes things everywhere, which goes along well with their name and provides a playful, relaxing place to grab a snack. I’d bump up the rating to 3.5 stars, because of the monkeys! The menu has a good amount of variety, with sweet and savory crepes, sandwiches, and shaved ice. We ordered the banana double choco crêpe. It was filled with fresh sweet bananas, chocolate ice cream, and whipped cream. The chocolate ice cream flavor went with the banana very well, and everything inside was delicious. The crêpe itself was just average though, probably because they don’t always make the crêpe fresh on the spot and the texture was a bit weird, like tortilla. The service was pretty good, they have some tables inside and our crêpe came out quickly.

Came here on a Friday afternoon(before the hustle-and-bustle of date-nights and family outings), so there were just a couple other parties at a time that were there. Enough seating, but I can imagine how easily it can get packed(rightly so!) I’ll cut to the chase: Half-lime, half-melona shaved ice + condensed milk(+$ 0.50) + red beans(+$ 1.00) + ice cream(+$ 1.00). Fellas/ladies, impress your dates with this one. DON’T you go and think lime is a ‘basic af’ flavor(as my fiancé had eloquently pointed out to me when I’d ordered it). Lime, my friends, is one of shaved ice’s most underrated flavors — such a strong fruity flavor AND it’s super BRIGHT green. Think of all the green foods you love: matcha ice cream, avocado, honeydew smoothies — they’re all BRIGHT green. Something about that flavor will just make your heart sing, and the combo of all the premium add-ons are all oh-so-worth-it. A regular-size can comfortably be split between two adults as a post-dinner dessert.(But let’s be real, you *deserve* your own, right?)

Although this place is called Banana CREPE, I think their real specialties go out to their shaved ice. Don’t get me wrong, their crepes are good, but I always find myself wanting more of their shaved ice, piled high and simply delicious. This is not your sad shaved ice from your childhood that you get from those carts where the ice is so crunchy and the blue/red sugary syrup flows to the bottom and you’re just munching on ice and drinking syrup. No, no, no, modern shaved ice is so much different-think soft snow and clouds with every bite! Located in Japantown, parking and seating can both be a little cramped. Don’t forget that this is a CASHONLY place! When you walk in, you’re greeted by a very comfy feel. Service is a little spotty, sometimes they’re very friendly and other times I’ve stood there for a long while until anyone has acknowledged me. However, that won’t stop me from getting my shaved ice! It comes in a kid size and a regular, you choose your 1 or 2 flavors(25 cents for a 3rd flavor), then add in any toppings for an additional cost. Li Hing powder, condensed milk, vanilla ice cream, and azuki beans all go great with the shaved ice(oh wait, I just named all the toppings offered). They put the ice cream in the middle of the shaved ice, so it adds a nice creaminess to go along with the snow-like ice. My favorite flavors are Li Hing Mui and coconut, but the mango, guava, tiger’s blood(strawberry/watermelon/cherry), melona, lychee, and green tea are also pretty good. Whatever the flavor, you really can’t go wrong!

This place was awesome! Tried the banana chocolate crèpe and it was made perfectly! Also tried the Hawaiian shaved ice with Lychee and passion fruit. Both hit the spot; especially in the 80°+ heat. :) But, be prepared it’s cash only!

My friend and I were not greeted by two associates as we stood there for a couple minutes. we felt awkward just standing there. Once we were helped by an associate he did seem friendly. I got shaved ice with two flavors of my choice, li hing and coconut. Also for an extra cost I added condensed milk, ice cream and li hing powder. If you love coconut just as much as I do, well I highly recommend it!

It’s been a while since I last stopped in here, but that all changed while I was walking downtown and smelled the delicious crepes that people were enjoying outside. I was feeling like something with chocolate so I went with the nutella crêpe with chocolate drizzle and banana topping. Just as good as I remember, but they’re best eaten right away while it’s still warm. No problems with the service at all, however it’s still cash only and I don’t remember seeing an atm inside so that’s something to remember.

My favorite place for shaved ice and crepes. The ambience is kinda cute with all the monkeys and the art work from local artists. I love their mango shaved ice and the crepes with Nutella, strawberry and banana. A perfect place for desserts.

A huge cup of flavored shaved ice for $ 3.50??? That’s a no brainier on a hot day! So delicious and cool. Just beware: CASHONLY! The staff are super friendly and give you a lot though. Super worth it!

I have heard so many good things about this place… However; I was kind of disappointed! For as Hawaiian themed place it lacked the friendly customer service and aloha feel. They don’t make it an effort to smile or even turn around to greet you. There’s no air condition so it get hot and stuffy really quick! The décor is cute and the concept is good, it’s just lacking in customer service and they are rather slow. BUT the shaved ice is big!!! The kids size is a perfect size.

Just a typical shave ice and crêpe place. Been passing by this place quite a few time and finally thought of coming since it’s so hot today. Its good but nothing remarkable

I absolutely HATE that this place is cash only! Best crêpe I’ve had in the South Bay. Perfect amount of ice cream, fruit, nutella, etc. The crêpe itself has a good flavor and is cooked until crispy on the edges — I love it! I will give 5 stars once I can use my card there — I almost never have cash and have to make a trip to the bank before going here… please get a square reader!

What a great find in San Jose! This little café has an island flavor. Located in Japan Town. Pretty small inside about 4 tables that can fit 2 – 3 adults. Their staff is super friendly! We ordered a banana nutella crêpe and honestly I would only give the crêpe, 3 stars. Sorry crepes you didn’t win my heart. Although, the Hawaiian shaved ice, got me on my first bite! The ice was shaved super fine and it just literally melts in your mouth, super yummy! I felt like I was back in Hawaii with the quality of their shaved ice. Will definitely come back to this place for some shaved ice, since I didn’t get to try all the flavors lol!

After coming to this place a couple time, I have got to say that this place is AWESOME! After my friend introduce me to place, I have to say that I am hook on for their shave ice. I usually come here with my girlfriend. This place have a couple table inside and a couple table on the outside. Plenty of room to sit down and chat it up with some friend. parking can be difficult as there is not really free parking on the weekday and sat. There is some free parking if you willing to walk a little. Be careful about parking in front of the store, I had seen people got ticket when they went inside to buy shave ice. Like many other people mention, This place have some bomb ass shave ice. I loved getting their shave ice with ice cream as I think it is a perfect balance. My girlfriend love their crêpe here so having tried their crêpe. I would have to say that their crêpe is not that bad either. I would say that this place would be a perfect place to get some shave ice in the summer time. Nice place to hang out with some friend and chat it up while eating some delicious shave ice or crêpe!

I went for breakfast while visiting San Jose. My brother told me Japan town would be a nice place to walk around and this was the only place we could find that served breakfast. The place was empty, although we did go at 10:30am and it seemed that the place was usually visited for deserts. There was a loud radio playing and the décor was… interesting. Lots of stuffed monkeys hanging from the ceiling and some pretty cool art on the wall. I ordered a breakfast crêpe with ham, egg, and cheese and it was very good. The presentations was pretty good for the style of the place and there was little ketchup packets and siratcha on the side. The guy helping us out was friendly. The overall design of the resultant was hilarious, but the quality of the service and food makes this a solid 4 star

Very much enjoyed my trip here, the service was great. The workers were fast with making the shaved ice and were super nice! I ordered a green tea shaved ice with sweetened red beans and my friend ordered a shaved ice with half strawberry and half watermelon I believe. We both ordered a kids size and they were very generous with a low cost and no tax btw. We had a try of each other’s shaved ice and they were both delicious! Definitely will come again soon(:

One of the best virgin pina coladas I’ve ever had. Asked the staff to make the smoothie without bananas and it was excellent(I think he added more coconut cream so it wasn’t watery). My out-of-town friend sucked down his passionfruit boba in under two minutes. If the monkey décor and tropical scenery overwhelms you, take your drinks to go and walk around J-town. Will have to come back and try the crepes.

Yay for good crepes and cheap shaved ice! «The Works» if your classic Nutella crêpe with vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, strawberries, bananas, and kiwis. It costs $ 9.50(CASHONLY) but since strawberries are out of season, there was an extra charge of 50 cents. It’s a pretty good sized crêpe and cooked perfectly! Definitely recommend if you’re in the area. Came here during a weekday so it was quite empty and parking wasn’t as issue. BUT, you should bring spare change for the meters.

On a hot or cold day, it doesn’t matter you’ll still see me here enjoying some fresh Hawaiian shaved ice. They have so many flavors to choose from that you’ll be stuck just thinking of which combination to have out on your ice. What makes this place so great is their selection of syrup which are efficiently used when flavoring the ice, making it even throughout the ice unlike other places where most of the flavor is on the outside. To make matters even better, their Large shaved ice which can serve 2 – 3 people is only $ 3.50! This is an amazing deal because you can choose 2 flavors off their list and the servings are huge! They also have a Kid sized shaved ice which is nice for kids that haven’t quite learned how to share just yet. The service here is fast and nice, which I really think is a great. They also bring the items to you which I think is great because they don’t do it by calling or looking for a number, but by face which creates that human-to-human interaction that I think we all desperately need ever since the wave of smartphones have hit. Overall, I really think this is a great«go-to place» when you want some good service and some cold sweets at an affordable price, which never disappoints.

Every crêpe I’ve tried here literally puts a smile on my face and makes me go, «Mmmm…» My favorite is the Cookies n Cream Dream crêpe, which has bananas, cookies n cream ice cream, whipped cream, and Oreo sprinkles! So good. You can also build your own crêpe if you’d like. Strawberries, nutella, vanilla ice cream, and whipped cream? You can’t go wrong with that either! Aside from crepes, this store also offers a sweet selection of Hawaiian shaved ice. Tiger’s Blood, in my opinion, is the best flavor they have here. It’s a mixture of cherry, strawberry, and watermelon flavoring. You can add more than one flavor to your shaved ice for an additional cost. **Check out their hours before you stop by! They’re closed on Mondays and close early on Tuesdays I believe. I’ve accidentally driven here many times when they were closed, oops. :( **I wouldn’t recommend bringing a huge group in with you since the store is so small with limited seating.

Still after almost 2 years of reviewing this place, it is still the best! Located in Japantown right next to Kazoo Sushi. On a hot or cold day, I seem to always crave it. Eating this on a hot day would cool you down. Eating this on a cold day would make you happy & cozy with cute monkey decors and bananas while still enjoying your Hawaiian shaved ice. So many flavors to choose from but my favorite flavors are always the Tigers Blood(strawberry, watermelon, orange) & Lychee with condensed milk. The syrup here isn’t super sweet so it’s definitely slurp-able! Top it off the some condensed milk that add some sweet & milkiness to it. The crepes here are good too. I’ve tried their strawberry Nutella one that’s topped with whipped cream. Yum! Everything is cheap too. Kids size shaved ice is $ 3.00 and regular is $ 3.50 and you get to choose 2 wonderful flavors! Service is fast and the workers here are really nice! There’s also plenty of parking with meters but hard to find during the afternoon or if there’s an event going on. Overall, great place that never disappoints!

Cash only but the crepes are splendid! Soft crêpe accompanied with your choice of ingredients. My favorite has to be the whipped creams banana and chocolate drizzle. There’s also shaved ice piled to the max with your choose of delicious syrup! Seating here is a bit limited, but it’s comfortable. Workers here are really nice

I grew up in Hawaii and this is probably my favorite Hawaiian shaved iced place there is in San Jose. In comparison to the Big Island, the price is pretty much the same and taste is just as good. I’ve ordered crepes a few times and was just as satisfied. My only wish was that they are open later on Sundays. Also, they close Monday’s so don’t show up.

In the past month or so I have returned here at least 3 – 4 more times and all those times I have ordered the same crêpe– strawberry, nutella and vanilla ice cream w/whip– and all those times there was nutella and it made the crêpe taste that much better. I tried not to order a crêpe today, but it smelled so good when I walked in, I just had to. The service is still just as good and everyone is just as nice. There was a incident where my son dropped and spilled his honeydew smoothie that was JUST handed to him. They guy was really nice and made a new one without hesitation. They told me not to worry about cleaning up the mess after I tried to wipe it up.

I’ve been to this spot a few times and their coffee is pretty good. Tho this review isn’t about that, but the crepes. I have had a crêpe at a previous visit and it was good. But what I realize now is that it’s who makes it that the crêpe is good and tasty. I’m pretty sure the owner does it well. Today(11÷1÷15), I didn’t want to go here actually but I did go because all the damn restaurants in japantown don’t open till after noon on a Sunday(I didn’t know this) and I’m still trying to get my breakfast/1st meal. So I go in and order a turkey crêpe wrap. The dude asks me what kind of spread I want. I said«avocado,» no problem right? Well damn, I had to wait 20 long minutes for a bloody crêpe and on top of that the person who made my crêpe forgot the avocado spread!!! So in some ways I feel cheated out. The vegetables weren’t even distributed evenly and there was hardly any turkey. At 1st I thought I was eating a salad crêpe. It’s not that I’m in a hurry or something like that, it’s just I don’t wanna spend my afternoon waiting for my food. So now whenever I’m in a pickle and need something to eat or coffee, I will not be thinking of this place as an option.

I’d have to say that this is the best place to have a dessert crêpe in the San Jose area. This review is long overdue, as I’ve been here at least a dozen times. On my last visit, I ordered the Cookies n Cream Dream($ 7.00). It has bananas, cookies n cream ice cream, topped with whipped cream and Oreo sprinkles. The crêpe itself is always cooked to perfection. The ice cream scoop is almost equivalent to 1.5 scoops elsewhere. As you can see in the picture, it is a pretty good size crêpe, so you can easily share it with someone. My kids typically get the Banana Double Choco($ 7.50), which has bananas, chocolate ice cream, Nutella, topped with whipped cream. This particular crêpe is a little too sweet for me, but if you are a chocolate/Nutella fan, you will love this crêpe! Side note: They only accept cash, and they are now charging tax! So for those of you that are bringing in exact change, grab a few coins from your cup holder! Conclusion: The staff here along with the owner, are very friendly and accommodating. Our only complaint is that they close pretty early on the weekends. 9:00PM on Fridays and Saturdays, and 4:00PM on Sundays. Other than that, I’m fairly confident that you will not find a better place out there for crepes. If you do, please share! :)

Not bad. The guys working there were friendly and responsive to any questions we had. My friend got the Root Beer float(I don’t know if it was because I hadn’t had one in awhile, but it was deliciously refreshing and sweet)=$ 3 The Guava Italian Soda was pretty refreshing and flavorful as well=$ 2 The prices here don’t seem too bad and the drinks were satisfying. The decorations of stuffed animals and brightly-colored walls is a bit tacky but the outdoor seating is not bad, with the umbrella seats and all. Overall, service and setting were all okay.

This place is super yummy!!! A regular size is so big already and only $ 3.50! I got guava and pineapple and these two together were soooo bomb! The people working there were also very nice. The ice was super soft and a nice texture and the syrup they use is refrigerated so it’s cold and tastes fresh. All around great place to go with the kids or stop by to grab a snack and walk around Japan Town!

This place is pretty good! They have a lot of different tropical flavors and I love that they have cotton candy flavor! I LOVE cotton candy flavor so I was pretty excited they had it. I came here with a group and we all tried six different flavors that were all very delicious and tasty. You can have more than 1 flavor in your cup. We also tried their strawberry, banana, Nutella crêpe and it was also pretty good! I haven’t tasted a good crêpe like that from other places. The only crêpe I love is our homemade crêpe with a secret ingredient but this one suffice! Their crêpe is soft and not crunchy like other places, which is great for me because I don’t like my crepes crunchy. FYI, they also have a separate mini coffee bar if that’s what you want. Haha We came here on a weekend so the place was super busy. It isn’t very spacious either, it’s really small so good luck getting a seat, especially when you’re with a big group. Luckily, we were fortunate enough to take over some tables since we had a big group. There is also seating outside. The place is decorated with a bunch of monkey and banana toys which is so cute and fitting! As for parking, you’d have to find parking on the street since it’s located in Japantown. OHANDITSCASHONLY…

I love this place! the only other one I know of that does Hawaiian ice is in Cupertino, so it’s nice to have one in SJ as well, especially in an awesome location like Japantown. I love how the extra toppings keep it affordable– I do recommend kid size as I couldn’t even finish that! Lots of flavors: I saw everything from Root beer to banana to tiger’s blood. My friend got the Guava and Green tea, I got the passion fruit + mango + coconut. We both got the condensed milk but I think it was too sweet with it, would have been perfect without it. They have a lot of variety on their menu, everything from boba to crepes. I will try to come back and try more!

Had a pog slushie, a banana/chocolate shake and a latte. Everything was only ok. Slushie was too sweet. Latte was all milk and badish coffee. Found parking easy enough on a weekday evening. Wouldn’t mind coming back to try a crêpe, but the space is a little overwhelming with all the stuffed monkeys in the space.

This review is for the shave ice only!!! Stopped by during the Obon Festival for something refreshing & it seemed like everyone had the same idea. We waited maybe 10 – 15 minutes for our order. Regular shave ice $ 3.50 comes with 2 flavors, we chose lychee & mango. $ 1 for azuki beans &50 cents for condensed milk. CASHONLY! There are a few tables outside & we snagged one while we waited. I noticed that the crepes were super small. I expected overflowing whipped cream or fruit but it was very thin. I was feeling glad I chose the shave ice. When our number was called, it came in a paper box overflowing with shave ice but hardly any azuki beans!!! I paid $ 1 for that & I only got like a teaspoonful?! The mango tasted really off. Not mango at all & a huge disappointment. The lychee was good though. Condensed milk is always a must when having shave ice! I don’t think I’ll be back here though, the quality wasn’t up to par with the islands or one I’ve had recently in SoCal. The search continues for our go-to shave ice place!

Banana Crêpe is a small little store decorated with monkey decors and it is located in downtown Japantown. This is simply my go-to place when I am in need of some shaved-ice because this place is amazing! Their crepes are good too; but, but their shaved-ice is what made me really fall deeply in love with this place. Anyways, the Guava flavor along with the Tiger’s blood(it’s a mixture of strawberry, watermelon and orange syrup) are my absolute favorite. They give you a lot of syrup so it’s super tasty! I love the location as well since there are so many good food places around that I can just come here after for dessert. It’s a small place, but they do have a few tables inside and outside as well. It’s really nice to sit outside and have some shave-ice on a warm day. This way, if you have dogs, you can bring them and tie them to the tables and let them have some licks as well! Anyways, the prices are good considering the amount of shaved-ice you get. I normally share my shaved-ice and still couldn’t finish it. Just a note: Parking are all meters(Monday through Saturday until 6) so bring quarters! Also, parking can be pretty hard to find on weekends, especially when there is an event. Overall, I recommend coming here for shaved-ice! You’ll love it!

My boyfriend friends recommended this place for their shave ice, but I personally come for the crepes. First impression. When my boyfriend and I came here, the store has some pretty nice display. The place feel like we are in the jungle with all the monkey and tree. Fit perfectly with the theme that this store has. Parking isn’t bad but you might have to pay for meter. Food and drinks. Like I said before, I come here for the desert crepes. Ever since I got my first crepes in high school, I always crave for some. They have desert, breakfast, and lunch crepes. They don’t have much choices for the desert crepes but my favorite crepes to get here is the cookie and cream dream. The crepes just taste so good. I have tried their shave ices which taste just as amazing, but I love the crepes they have here the most. Verdict I would recommend friend and family to come try this place out. It will be a perfect place for friends to hang out and catch up during the hot summer times. Food come out quick and taste good. Good things is that after eating some crepes or shave ice, you can walk around the area and go buy some Asian snack!
