Food is so so here. Also got sick after eating here. their kitchen is so dirty!(Passed through while using the restroom) The restaurant is also getting run down a bit. This experience makes me really questions how clean sushi tomi next to this place is. they are owned by the same owner. Will never eat here again and I likely won’t eat at Sushi Tomi anymore either.

This place is probably a place I could expect to upgrade by 1 star if I am to write another review. Why? Food: Boiled Dumplings with shrimp and pork(4 stars): These were fresh. There’s some lady rolling the dough for these at the window and it tastes as if they go straight from her to the boiling pot. They take the longest(10 – 15 minutes?) but the quality is worth it. If I were to come back, I would ONLY get these.(They’re not available frozen, only freshly boiled) Fried Potstickers(3 stars): I’m not a huge fanatic about this. I don’t think they were freshly made, or at least with completely different dough than the boiled dumplings. I’m not too interested in whatever they put inside either. You don’t get a choice for what’s inside, and it tastes generic and not really what I would prefer. Still edible though. Mapo Tofu(2.5 stars): I won’t say gross. But below average. Typically, whenever I go into a new restaurant, I like to try something that is very basic. Maybe mapo tofu, maybe fried rice, or maybe some basic sushi if we’re eating at a sushi place, just to see if they can deliver on simple dishes. I mean, I will eat it if I’m starving, but the quality is below average.(quantity is a lot) Store(3 star) : There are very few seats. i think a total of maybe…3 tables that seat 4, 2 tables that seat 2, and a bar with 3 seats or something like that. But you can get it to-go as well. That’s not the reason for 3 stars though. The place isn’t too sanitary. I mean, it’s kind of a hole in the wall type place, and I saw a fly buzzing around in circles. Service(4 star): Service was not bad. Overall, I might be back, of course to only order the boiled dumplings.

Terrible food and service. Soup noodles have no flavor. Lunch got and sour soup, it was just their regular soup with gobs of vinegar. Inedible. Pork veggie noodle soup was so watered down and amateur tasting. Weird servers wearing tomi sushi clothes and saying something about ordering food from there if you want. Even the pan fried dumping were bad, oily with super thick doughy shells. Watch the lady making dumplings, can’t be hygienic with the meat filling sitting out all day long.

Great homemade Gyoza! We had the pork Gyoza which was handmade and fresh. You can get the Gyoza as a meal and dont have order it just as an appetizer.

I love meat and I love carbs. Homemade dumplings is the way to go! This place is TINY! I believe they also limit the amount of gyoza(their most popular, I think) you can get to go. Everything seems to be made fresh/to order. Ironically, my favorite thing we ordered were the vegetarian dumplings which had cabbage, mushroom, etc. I loved the simplicity of it and the sweetness of the cabbage was yummy! The gyoza is my next favorite because they’re huge and stuffed with meat! Downside is that it gets pretty greasy. I get that gyoza is supposed to be, but I was dabbing away a lot of it because it was oozing out. The pork/cabbage/cilantro is decent, but the shrimp one was my least favorite. Overall, sometimes the dough could be quite thick and rolled unevenly, but the filling is what makes this place good. I wouldn’t go out of my way for this place, considering the plethora of choices in this plaza, but it’s not bad.

This is our first and most likely last time here. Overall, the food was«so-so». We ordered a variety of dishes to sample a range of things. We ordered: 1) boiled dumplings(consistency of ground meat was«loose», not firm), 2) pan fried dumplings(same comment as previous), 3) tan tan noodles(just ok — nothing special), 4) ong Choy(pretty good), 5) mustard green pork noodle soup(bland and noodles are a bit gooey), 6) peppers with pork(ok), 7) pork fried rice(rice was a bit too wet).

Chinese restaurant disguised under a Japanese name Gyoza — this isn’t Japanese gyoza. Filling is also mushy I have no idea why. Disgusting Tan tan noodle — the noodles were not bad but the sauce flavor isn’t appealing. Hot and sour soup — pretty good Wouldn’t come here again

Sad that this place is no longer what it used to be :(The service is not even close to what it used to be, and they were out of many items at 6PM on a regular day that they were open. I would have given another star if the food came out fast but it didn’t. In fact, they gave our order to a table that came 20 minutes after us. They also said there were no more vegetables available while another three tables next to us got exactly what we wanted! This happened to the table next to us too. Super disappointing. I used to frequent this place all the time with my family in high school — we were always a fan of the handmade dumplings and handmade noodles. My mom was friends with the owner and we had found out that they were the same owners of Tomi Sushi, the super famous South Bay restaurant just a few doors down. Not sure if they’ve changed owners or not, but hasta la vista Hana, I won’t be coming back.

Hungover, hungry, and waiting for a friend; I had to get something to eat. I was literally dying. I didn’t have cash to go to the Mitsuwa food court so I aimlessly wondered around the plaza. I’ve always walked past Hana and never thought much of it, but it was actually pretty full inside. I saw they had gyoza and some noodles so I was sold. This place is tiny, seating about 15 people max but that’s no biggie. I know this place is Japanese, Chinese cuisine but it’s definitely more Chinese. Who doesn’t like Chinese food when they’re hungover? Anyways, I saw they had a lunch special that came with hot and sour soup, gyoza, and mapo tofu over rice for only $ 8.50. Sold once again. I wasn’t disappointed, especially for the price I was paying. The gyoza, which had a more Chinese flare, was freaking delicious. The wrapping with thick and chewy — EFFYEAH! Nothing sucks more than a dumpling that just comes undone, but the filling… It was juicy, full of meat and completely packed with flavor. I saw others ordering a heaping plate of this and now I can see why. It was sooooooooo good. I will definitely have to come back for the dumplings and probably check out their other cheap eats!

Food isn’t too bad here. You’ll find that a lot of the dishes aren’t saturated with fats and oils, unlike a lot of other Chinese restaurants. This is great for those people who are looking for more of a healthy alternative, but I find that it also makes some of the dishes a bit bland. Most notably are the ramen platters and some of the rice dishes as well. I suggest trying the gyoza and Mongolian beef dish, those two were my favorite. There is definitely some better Chinese places around the San Jose area, but Hana is acceptable and their service is excellent.

The line for Santouka and Kahoo were ridiculous, so after a long day, my dad and I came here to have a quick meal. The gyoza dumplings were actually a lot better than I expected and the prices are pretty cheap for the amount of food you get. However, the flavor is quite lacking with their mapo tofu just mostly being oil and rice and the pork and cabbage over rice was pretty bland. The gyoza are not the thin skin type, which is the Japanese style, so I think it shouldn’t be called gyoza in my opinion. Service was fine, not great, but not bad either. While the food was okay, I don’t really think I’d choose to eat here again.

I was craving for Japanese style pan fried gyoza And found out this place is another chinese dumplings restaurant… The gyoza and dumplings skin are so thick which I don’t like. Fried rice are not good either. Very disappointed

Dumplings can be inconsistent. They do have thicker skin which is good or bad depending on your preference. I think it’s good ratio for the filling. The filling I’ve had ones where the mustard greens were a bit too much and other times, they were fine. Overall, they are good but not something I get regularly here. The fried rice was good but pretty average and so is the green onion pancake. What I like here are the noodles. Both the spicy sauce and sesame sauce ones are really tasty. The noodles are bit on the soft side but I like them just fine. Sesame sauce seems to be mixed with peanuts so it’s more like sesame and peanut sauce which I do like a lot. Another plus is that the place is never crowded so I like that I can either get a seating immediately or order a to-go and out within 10 – 15 minutes.

Feel like home cooked Chinese/Taiwanese food but have it be healthy instead of greasy? Hana is pretty damn good at it. They specialize in house-made dumplings but they have some nice options you would see on a traditional dinner table. I’ve been coming here for a few years and the ingredients are high quality, it’s cooked lovingly and they hit the spot. Not too expensive and the service is good. No lines either unlike the popular ramen places nearby. + order fried/steamed dumplings + try a new dish + healthy portions, not greasy(although nothing wrong if you want greasy) + good value for pricing Give this place a try!

Hana is a small Japanese restaurant, starkly furnished, with a lady in the window making two dumplings at a time. Mad skillz. This place has mediocre reviews yet constantly has a line out the door on weekends. Fortunately for weekday lunch, there was no wait. Like the store design, the menu is pretty homey and simple. — Spicy Tan Tan noodles — 5 stars: I don’t typically like peanut sauce but this sauce combo with the chewy noodles was incredible. — Napa Cabbage — 4 stars: Homey and delicious, just like mom makes it. — Boiled Dumplings — 3 stars: personally too doughy to me. Pretty good when you dunk it in soy sauce and garlic(use the condiments at the table to customize your sauce!) Overall it’s a solid 4 stars for a casual place I could see myself returning for when I’m craving something homey.

Fast service, cheap price, and decent foods. The hostess was cute and always fills up the cup even though you barely drink half way. Try the boil gyoza because they are amazing!

At first, I was pleased to see this restaurant, as my friends and I were walking round the shopping center toward Mitsuwa Marketplace. Then, I saw a number of Chinese dishes, and thought it to be another fake Japanese place run by Chinese people. As we returned from shopping, we couldn’t decide what to eat and this place returned as the most agreeable restaurant, especially with rush hour traffic. They had a special – green beans over rice with gyoza and soup. It sounded fine – a Chinese, Japanese combination. My friends chose typically Chinese items as well, and we ordered the 6 gyoza for $ 6.95 appetizer. The choice of drinks was not exactly what I’d hoped and they had drinks most non-Japanese would want. I stuck with hot tea. My food came out immediately – as if it had been sitting in a pot all day, buffet-like. The gyoza appetizer arrived just after that, and the smaller gyoza and half bowl of soup with my meal just after that. My friends’ food took quite a while longer, but it was time enough to eat the gyoza. The funny thing about my green bean over rice dish was that there only seemed to be green peppers to join the pork. My friends’ dishes seemed to be as promised. They were both surprised at the high quality of the meat. Nothing was impressive but the prices weren’t bad, either. A man with the name Takao on his badge came to the table to ask about the food. The service was generally friendly.

Contrary to its name, Hana features dishes more Chinese in style, with exception to the gyoza — if you’re looking for Japanese cuisine, consider the other places in this plaza! I ordered the 12-pc gyoza and the Xiao Chao entrée, which turned out to be a filling portion for two or more. The gyoza, each of which took two mouthfuls to eat, was by far the most impressive dish. Made from scratch, it came hot and fresh with a great crispy exterior and a generous amount of oil(as did the other plates). If your palate is craving a home-cooked, comfortable meal, Hana delivers well with dishes that are prepared promptly in a simple, cozy and casual environment.

Guess I didn’t order their best dishes but the green pepper pork rice was horrible. The tables are sticky to my skins, gross! Please wipe them!

Spicy tan tan noodles: The taste was lacking. After turning the noodles over for quite a while in the chili oil, they started to get some flavor. But they didn’t seem to have a good ratio of sesame(or peanut) paste. It would have been much better if they added a little bit more chili oil. Many other Unilocalers suggest less paste, but adding more oil would fix the overly pasty noodles. That being said, it also wasn’t that spicy. If I could go back to my ordering, I’d ask for a little extra chili oil.
