Excellent food. I’ve been here couple of times. Last time we came here as a group, everything was great. From quality of food to the quality of service. Will be back.

After my experience here with my boyfriend on Valentine’s Day the GM reached out to follow up on our issue during our visit, and I will be leaving another review on our next dinning experience as we will be returning soon. It means a lot that the issue was followed up on, which shows a lot of dedication to the guests and their experiences there.

Nice place. Smallish bar area. Salads and sides were 7 out of 10. Great service. But beware… they have, what I assume, is supposed to be a «French-European» concept of a steak house. When you walk in you see a large faux steak aging refrigerator like a normal American steakhouse… BUT… So half of our table ordered the $ 50 rib eye, expecting the thick juicy steak that we saw in the«aging» unit. Nope, we all got ¼ inch thick sheets of meat seasoned like a normal steak(so way over seasoned). Kinda like what you would get at a Denny’s– seriously. Very disappointing and unexpected. Take an Über 4 miles to Grill on the Alley for a real steak and superior experience at the same price point.

FOOD/STEAK: It’s a fancy high end steak place so yes the steak prices are expensive. I had the filet mignon 6 oz(smallest) for $ 38. My boyfriend splurged and went for the Tijima(spell check) aged steak for a whooping $ 95. I wouldn’t say either steak was life changing. They also have bone-in steaks for higher prices than the $ 95. Steak plate comes with some salt crystal seasonings on the plate too. They also have a combination package type meal option written down on the chalk board when you first walk in. The server explains it again to you too and it’s per person. SIDES: You have to pay extra for any sides, but the sides can feed maybe 3 people who don’t eat a whole lot. We opted for brussel sprouts and mushrooms. The brussel spouts were ok, some of them tasted bitter/sour. I thought the mushrooms were going to be the cute white mushrooms that you put on salad, but they were the browner mushrooms with the long skinny stems. The table next to us got the potatoes, which looked good so if I ever come back I might try the mashed(?) potatoes. APPETIZER: $ 15PORKBELLY get in my belly! Like an upscale bacon breakfast. Pork belly with a layer of I don’t know what on the bottom like a pancake pork belly. I’ve had pork belly at other places where the fat part tastes like goopy fat, but this pork belly fat part still kinda had a texture of meat and wasn’t gross to eat. Side of salad went well with it on the plate. Egg on top of the pork belly too. We ended up ordering another of these to-go to eat the next day. There’s a guy walking around with a basket of bread asking each table if they want bread and butter. They had two types, and I chose the olive bread that really did taste like olives. DESSERT: Considering the steak was expensive, I thought desserts were going to be like $ 20, but they were a reasonable $ 9 so figured why not? Opted for a chocolate lava cake with ice cream, which was delicious! The warm chocolate inside the chocolate cake was just the right warmth and sweetness. The ice cream of course is a great combination with chocolate cake with toasted hazelnuts. STAFF: Nothing to complain about the staff. They met the usual standards of attentiveness. INSIDE: It has a brown wood feel with high ceilings. White tablecloths. There is a full stocked bar with two TV’s playing sports. It says on Unilocal this place is casual, which I can see people dressed casually, but to me it’s a nice enough place and nice enough prices to dress up. We came for Valentine’s weekend and I was wearing a dress with heels, and I did not feel out of place. The servers are dressed in button up white dress shirts and well groomed. There is outside seating, and in February it was an enclosed tent with heat lamps for dinnertime. OVERALL: Upscale splurge do-not-look-at-the-bill-amount when you eat here haha. I loved my dessert, and the steak I had was ok. Pork belly appetizer was good. Service was good. I liked the atmosphere. You weren’t sitting RIGHT next to other people like some restaurants especially during high traffic weekends. Next time if we come back I’m sure we won’t be ordering that $ 95 steak again.

Do not come here! Especially for there so called happy hr. We wanted a couple drinks and a appetizer, so the host who was nice seated us out at their patio. The server on the other hand showed a horrible attitude because we just wanted to order off the happy hr menu. It was only 330, and there happy hr was from 3 to 6, the place was dead and now I see why. We put our order in 2 drinks and a appetizer, never came after 15 min. It was dead! No one there and 2 bartenders. We split to chz cake factory across the st and by the way they have a awesome happy hr!!! So much more to offer and just a way better vibe than this snob joint. This dinner spot wasn’t impressive at all, way better steakhouses in SF. Checked the menu and they don’t know steak, no bone in rib eye or bone in filet mignon? Please ! Bye!

We visited LB Steak with clients on a Saturday evening. We wanted a more lively, informal dinner, so we shimmied our way into 5 of their big comfy bar seats. The bartenders/servers were on it! They promptly had dinner placemats and drinks in our hands. We enjoyed some lovely cocktails to start, and then moved onto big, fat cabernets from N. Cal. Just lovely! We shared several apps: the octupus, which was done quite well(which I think is challenging to find), shrimp cocktail and onion rings. We also shared their 48 oz. double cut tomahawk. That bad boy was big… and good! But we weren’t done yet. Two of us wanted a bit more red meat(#hellofarmgirl). The bartender highly recommended that we bypass the normal rib eye, and go with the 12 oz center cut boneless rib eye from Tajima, Australia. This puppy rolls in at $ 95 bucks. Yes, you heard me right. $ 95 buckaroos. The price made us take pause for a few seconds, but his recommendations had been spot on thus far, so why stop now? The night was young and how often do we have australian beef on the menu? This is one of the BEST decisions I’ve ever made, especially on a Saturday night out of town! That rib eye was magical. I do not know how it became leaps and bounds more flavorful then most any other cut I’ve ever had, but WOW. Just WOW. I have visited LB Steak again, as have my colleagues, and look forward to more visits in the future!

The service here was great when I visited. When you walk in you are greeted by all the dry aged steaks your eyes can handle. For someone who has ordered has ordered Steak, maybe 4 times in their life, this was the one time that I actually wished I could repeat it. I got the dry aged rib eye steak with grilled zucchini. This was the best piece of meat a person can chew(at least by my standards). My friend who was staying in San Jose for sometime talked up this place for the longest time bragging about the meat he had here and I can see why. Top that with an attractive server and we are good to go.

My husband and I made reservations and were given a nice table. For appetizers, I had oysters and my husband had the wedge salad. Salad was good but had better oysters in other restaurants. We both had filet mignon. I had scallops and my husband had the lobster tail. The scallops and lobster tail was very good. The steaks were tender but salty. We ended the night with cheesecake which was very good.

I live in SF and I’ve been coming to LB Steak around once or twice a month since I was introduced to the place around six months ago. Until yesterday I would have given it a five-star rating, but I’m dropping it to two stars after an unpleasant experience I had there yesterday. I’ve tried several of the steaks at LB Steak and they’ve always been great. Yesterday I decided to go all out and chose the $ 99 Tajima wagyu. It was one of the more disappointing steaks I’ve had anywhere — it was tasteless and chewy. There are not much worse qualities a steak could have. If this had been a mid-range restaurant and a $ 30 steak I wouldn’t have bothered saying anything. It wasn’t horrible, it was just disappointing, and I’m not typically one to raise a stink. But since they were charging $ 99 for this steak I thought I’d better say something. I wish I hadn’t — their response to my complaint was even more disappointing than the steak. The manager informed me the problem was that I just don’t like this cut of steak. The waiter told me the problem was that I’m not familiar with wagyu steak. I’ve tried wagyu in many places, including Japan, and including other cuts of wagyu at LB Steak. This steak was just a bland, chewy hunk of meat. Chewy wagyu — that shouldn’t even be possible. The quality of this meal merits a three-star review. The quality of their response to my complaint brings it down to a one-star. The fact they did not charge me for the steak brings it back up to a two-star. A single bad meal can be excused, but a customer complaint about a $ 99 steak should be addressed with caution. In my opinion their behavior was unnecessary and offensive, and I don’t plan on going to LB Steak again.

Ordered the dry-aged NY steak and was disappointed. I’ve had just as good steaks in Sizzler and they didn’t cost $ 55. Maybe their other steaks are better. On the plus side, the calamari/octopus plate and the seafood salad were delicious.

We came here for New Year’s Eve dinner for the first time, so from what we were told, the menu was special for the night. Everything was so good though, I sure as hell want to come back to try the regular menu! I can’t remember which steaks we ordered, I believe they were both under the Wagyu menu, but they were incredible. Juicy, flavorful, and filling. We couldn’t even finish our food and happily enjoyed our leftovers the next morning. It was still just as delicious refrigerated and microwaved. We also ordered the rosemary & garlic fries and the baked mac n cheese, which was BOMB! Service was good, though I feel like maybe our waiter was a little hesitant to wait on us because we were clearly steakhouse noobs, but everyone we came into contact with was professional and friendly. As soon as we overheard another table mention risotto before we even ordered, I think that alone sealed the deal for our future return.

Good service. So so food. Ordered 60 days dry aged rib eye steak. Just OK. But too expensive for the quality. All the appetizers and side dishes are above average. Oh, bread is good.

My visit to LB Steak unfortunately suffered from«holidayitis» an affliction where upon a restaurant hires new staff for the holidays and delivers substandard service and food in an effort to increase holiday business. In other words, our service was bad, and the food was very average, but the prices were high. Our waiter was clearly not well trained, forgetting not only our champagne order, but orders at surrounding tables for hot tea after dinner and missing dishes. He was very fumbling in his delivery of food, and in taking our order. He was pleasant, and not rude, but not professionally trained by a long shot. The steaks are supposed to be special«dry aged» blah blah. I’ve had far far better steaks from Safeway’s selection of Prime Meats in the same cut, grilled in the backyard by my hubby. Our selected side was the Lobster Risotto. Gummy, cheesy, chewy lobster. Meh indeed. The Chocolate Melt Away cake dessert was delicious however. Such a forgettable meal. I could not recommend this place either for the quality of it’s beef #1, or the quality of service, at least at the holiday.

Great décor and location; too bad the steaks are just okay. Things other than steak is pretty good, but you are paying a lot more for it. We came here with a group of 6, and surprisingly, it really took them a while to get the steaks right. That is surprising as I am sure a ton of people ask for medium rare. That was pretty much the opinion on the steaks all around the table. Too bad, as the beef were all of pretty good quality. The burger and rosemary fries here, however, are terrific, and that is probably the best thing here… well, next to the Reuben. Apparently the chef here studied the Reuben in New York, and yeah, he does it very well. Both the burger and the Reuben — with the fries — made up for the steaks. Otherwise, you can do a lot better just eating at Left Bank, and save yourself a few dollars.

We came here spontaneously for dinner on a Saturday evening at around 5– we didn’t make any reservations(which is not a smart thing to do during the holiday season for any restaurant at Santana Row!). Since they were all booked until 9:30pm, we sat at the bar. Luckily it wasn’t too busy during that time, so my parents and I were able to snag 3 seats. We popped into Maggiano’s earlier, but the place was just absolute chaos! I’m so glad we ended up dining here though. For appetizers, we ordered the fried calamari and beet salad. I’ve honestly never had such good fried calamari before. The breading is not too thick, it’s nice and crispy, and it’s very well seasoned. It’s a great portion for $ 13 too! The beet salad was delicious as well; 4 thin big slices of beets under lightly dressed greens that are sprinkled with goat cheese. For our entrees, I got the pan roasted jumbo scallops, dad got the lamb shank, and mom got the 12 oz rib eye cooked medium. ALLWEREDELICIOUS. We finished everything except for the spaetzle that comes with the lamb shank. The meat was so tender; it fell off from the bone so cleanly and effortlessly! We all loved our entrees and how they were presented. My mom casually told the bartender who served us all night that it was my birthday. I guess they do birthday treats here because I got a beautiful plate with a slice of bread pudding(it tasted like cinnamon and apples) with a small scoop of ice cream! Oh, and a candle :) I haven’t blown a birthday candle for like 3 or 4 years, so that was fun: P OH another thing: if you like Sauvignon Blanc… you need to try the Craggy Range from New Zealand. Our bartender recommended it, and it’s quite possibly the best Sauvignon Blanc I’ve ever had! I also could not stop sniffing it. Overall, fantastic food, service, and ambience. Even though I am not a big fan of steaks and obviously this place specializes in steaks, I had a satisfying seafood based meal on my birthday.

An update is due. After my previous review, I was quickly contacted by a representative of the company(Mario Vega), who was kind enough to inquire further about my experience and discuss with me. He was attentive and respectful of my concerns and offered to make sure we’d have a different experience if we were to return, providing me with the name and contact information of the new manager(Mary Ealy). I debating contacting her before returning, but decided against it — it’s hard to tell if my experience was an anomaly if they know I’m coming and are taking special pains to ensure a better visit. Since my last review, I have returned twice. Both visits were during lunch instead of dinner. As I was aware of my negative experience with the small salad, I went a different route on our two next visits — I ordered the Royale With Cheese both times. My mind was blown — that is the best burger I have ever had, bar none. It’s topped with fontina cheese, caramelized onions, an egg, and pork belly. It was filling and delicious. I do not know if they have changed their menu since I brought up my concerns, or if the lunch menu is simply different, but the pricing for the potato is more clear and there is a detailed list of all included ingredients. We have had no negative surprises. My husband has been happier with his more recent steaks, and has become a big fan of the wedge salad(accompanying his meal — it is not large enough to stand alone).

I really like LB Steak, but for Steak! The atmosphere is nice, and tends to be on more of the classier side — though there were some people sitting at the table next to me in Green Bay Packers Jerseys… EW! I feel like at that point the restaurant should have a small dress code to eliminate the riff raff coming in. Regarding the food, I was in love with my Filet Mignon. I also enjoyed the Caesar salad we ordered for the table, but for 4 people, you might want to order 2. My mother decided she wanted to order the one chicken dish on the menu. She was really displeased with her chicken. It first came out, what looked to be undercooked. They ended up taking it back, and fixing it for her. When they brought it back, it just didn’t taste good. My mom ended up not eating much of her dinner. For those of us who ordered steak, we loved it! The prices are more on the spendy side, so you have to come here ready to spend $$$. My BF ordered the one and only veggie option(mushroom lasagna), and reported that it was fine, but not amazing. We came here for my Dad’s birthday, so they were able to bring us a nice complimentary dessert. Overall, this is a great place for steak, but don’t recommend it for much more than that. I would give it 3.5 stars, but I did really like the steak, so I bumped it up to 4.

3.5−4STAR. LB Steak has some really great options, and has a beautiful ambience. Service is just average, and the prices are a little steep, but all-in-all, a great experience. I went to LB steak for my 30th bday dinner a few weeks ago with a handful of my close friends. We made a reservation a few days before for a part of 6 – 8 and they were able to accommodate us. When we were seated, we wanted to order some drinks and some appetizers, but given that it was a Saturday night, it took us a little while to get our server’s attention. When she finally came back, we were able to order some beers, and the following appetizers: maple glazed pork belly and the fried Monterey calamari(to be reviewed below). We got our appetizers and got started on them before we even got to order our steaks, which we thought was a little awkward. When we got our server’s attention again, we finally got to order our steaks, after she gave us a thorough explanations of the offerings. Since it was a special occasion, I decided to treat myself to the 12oz Ribeye Cut, Wagyu, Tajima, Australia. My friends ordered the filet mignon(prime angus), the New York(prime angus), and the ribeye(prime angus). We got a few sides as well: foraged mushrooms, brussels sprouts, rosemary and garlic fries, and the twice baked potato. Here is a quick review of the items: 1. Maple glazed pork belly, $ 15(rate a 5 out of 5): This may be the best item we ordered all night. Beautifully caramelized pieces of pork belly on top of a savory bread pudding with an herb salad and sunny side up egg. Our server recommended this, and it did not disappoint. Next time, I plan to order 2 of these. 2. Fried Monterey calamari, $ 13(rate a 3.5 out of 5): Standard fried calamari dish. Nothing too exciting on this one. Nice touch with the fried shishito peppers and roasted chili sauce. 3. 12oz. Ribeye cut — Wagyu, Tajima, Australia, $ 95(rate a 4.5−5 out of 5): Holy cow this was a tender steak. I ordered it medium rare, and it was incredibly soft and tasty. Definitely fatty, which is what I wanted, but WOW!!! That’s all I have to say on this. I rarely order a steak that costs this much at a restaurant, but it was infused and aged nicely. Highly recommend — will probably order this again the next time I go. Get the peppercorn dipping sauce with this. I got the LB sauce too, but I recommend the peppercorn sauce more. :) 4. Foraged mushrooms, $ 8(rate a 4 out of 5): Nice assortment of different mushrooms served on a sizzling platter to keep them warm. Really nice touch. Great sautéed flavor. 5. Brussels sprouts, $ 7(rate a 4 out of 5): I am normally not a fan of brussels sprouts, but these were really tasty. 6. Rosemary and garlic fries, $ 5(rate a 3 out of 5): Standard fries. Slight garlic flavor. We didn’t end up finishing this side dish, or really touching it at all. 7. Twice baked potato, $ 6(rate a 3 out of 5): I never knew why you had to bake a potato twice, but I guess it tasted ok. Nothing too special here. To end the meal, they gave a complimentary dessert which was nice of them. It was definitely a little pricey here, but the company and the ambience was terrific. I’d definitely recommend LB steak. We will be pickier about the sides next time. Parking for this restaurant is tricky, as is the case for all of Santana Row. There is a bar in the restaurant too where you can order drinks before getting seated, which is a nice touch. I hope their service improves a little bit, but overall, a great experience, and a nice way to celebrate my 30th. Will be back.

Hello fans, This evening the Santa Clauses(? Lol) were visiting LB Steak House that is on Santana Row in San Jose! We were celebrating our anniversary and you can imagine how of those. With us were several elves that we consider family. Anyway, the steaks were excellent, the service impeccable and the whole place warm and friendly. Very nice. Bring lots of gold coins, as this isn’t Jack in the Box! Love Santa

My love brought me here for a surprise birthday dinner. Santa Row has several dining options, but we haven’t been to LB Steak. Our RSVP was originally @7:30 but we decided to arrive early. The host was able to seat us right away upon our arrival. The interior is simple yet classy. The ambiance is perfect, just enough lighting to set the mood. After we were seated and had a chance to look at the menu, I decided to order a glass of red wine to compliment my steak. Servers walk around to offer a small loaf of bread of your choice(sourdough or olive bread). Jessica(our waiter) was very informative and assertive. I’m a steak kind of gal! I ordered the dry aged rib eye(12oz) and my bf ordered the prime rib eye(18oz). As for sides, we had twice baked potato and sautéed mushrooms. To start off, the steak was juicy and cooked perfectly. I asked for medium and they gave me medium. The steak that we ordered is beyond expectations and it’s by far the best steak I’ve had in San Jose. LB Steak has definitely been added to my list. Great way to end a fantastic birthday dinner!!!

Not sure why this place 3 ½ stars. I think it should be 5. The food was excellent for one. I had the 12 oz NY Strip, with a baked potato, and one of the IPA’s on draft. The steak was so good OMG. Also the way the baked potato was served I had never really had that style. It was like a cross between mashed and baked. The waiter was awesome as well. When I made the reservation I put in the notes that its my friends birthday and the waiter had ice-cream with a candle on stand by. Also he was very helpful in picking some of the cuts for my and my friend. The location is in Santana Row. The ambience is pretty cool, and all in all I had a great time there. As far as pricing its up there but for me it was totally worth it. W/O tip the bill came to $ 138.00 for; 12 oz NY Strip 8 oz Hanger Steak 1 Baked Potato 1 Bowl of mushrooms 2 Glasses of wine 1IPA Draft

I went here for lunch last Sunday and most of the restaurant was empty inside and we sat down inside. Our server was nice and helpful in explaining the menu items. Unfortunately, the food was not up to par. My father-in-law ordered a classic burger medium rare and it came to very close to being well done. No condiments came with his meal. My husband and I ordered the prime rib sandwich and lobster omelet. The potatoes that came with the eggs did not taste like they were made to order. Some of them were inedible. The lobster had a strong fishy taste to it. The sandwich really lacked in flavor and the au jus usually enhances the flavor and unfortunately it was lacking. The prices are on the higher end for lunch and my expectations were high. I’ve had a better steak sandwich at Plutos and LB is supposed to specialize in meat. Left disappointed. On a brighter note, the bathroom was clean and I like how the stall with the changing table has it’s own sink. They were very accommodating about allowing the stroller next to our table since the restaurant was almost empty.

Not so fancysmancy food for a fancysmancy place. Came here for my two year anniversary and the place was really nice and clean with great service. Ordered the fried calamari– good, jumbo scallop – REALLYGOOD but it has bacon and I didn’t know(don’t eat pork btw) had to pick at it but the scallops were delicious. Not sure if it said on the menu or did I really miss it? I guess I’m so used to working at restaurant/café where we listed everything on the menu. I don’t know if people get fries at a nice restaurant but order the Rosemary fries! Super tasty! It’s was good, maybe just need to really look at the menu next time!

If possible, get a seat in the covered patio section. You can enjoy the outdoors and the fumes from the expensive cars, all without getting sunburn. BIGWIN. Fried calamari was beautifully presented over some blended red pepper sauce; looks spicy but doesn’t taste like much. This dish includes fried pieces of lemon(that don’t taste sour) and fried green chiles(that don’t taste spicy) – nice additions. Pork belly over savory bread pudding with sunnyside up egg and greens – TOOSALTY. So salty that I had to use my friend’s popover to spread out the salty sauce. I wouldn’t get this again. Service was really good but no one was really there either.
