Tried their pollo guisado… SOSPICY! I LOVE it! Definitely not for those faint in heart… but if you can handle the heat… that dish is a must try!

This review is solely based on the papusas! They suck!!! No flavor what so ever. Cant even taste the cheese, they must use some cheap @$$ ingredients. This is what i get for buying pupusas from a gas station. lol If anyone can please point out a good pupusa place. let me know.

What a let down pupusas were greasy the order of platanos weren’t even a whole platano it was 3 slices paper thin. I will never go there again. Go to Los Dubon for the real thing!

Yes, it is located in a gas station. Don’t let it fool ya!!! Breakfast burrito: Really filling and flavorful! 4⁄5 Pupusa: Loved this! rice flour with revuelta(bean, cheese, chicharron). The pupusa itself was crispy, just the way I like it! The pickled cabbage slaw was great! Ask for the spicy sauce. Soo good!!! 5⁄5 Salvadorian tamale: OMGYUM! The masa is always my fave part of a tamale and the masa on this was soooo soft. You can tell it’s definitely homemade. Added the spicy sauce to it too. Loved it!!! 5⁄5 Both times I ordered through Unilocal and they have my order ready when I pick it up. Not much parking. Shared with Shell. Located to the left when you enter. HIGHLYRECOMMEND!!!

First, yes this place is in a Shell Station which is a bit scary right? But after reading the reviews and seeing they had a stellar health department inspection we decided to give it a try. I am sure glad we did, because had we let«ambience de petro» scare us, we would have missed out on an amazingly authentic Salvadorian meal. The pupusas were flawlessly prepared with the curtido both fresh and perfectly pickled. The only bad thing I can say is seating(and parking) is limited so I would suggest calling your order in ahead and picking it up to go.

I’m from Hawaii, but I lived in the Bay Area for five years for college, and while I was in school, my Salvadoran friends introduced me to one my now favorite foods — pupusas. Pupusas are a beautiful thing — masa filled with yummy goodness of beans, cheese, and chicharron(revueltas) and topped with a sort of cabbage slaw and salsa. You can eat it like a big taco, or you can eat it with a fork and knife. Sadly, I can’t find pupusas anywhere on my island, so when I visit California, pupusas are on my list of must haves. I found Loroco Salvadorian on Unilocal and decided to give it a try because of its high reviews and its location between my friend’s house and my hotel. I was able to place an order on Unilocal and had the option to pay with credit card through Unilocal or wait and pay with cash in person. I set the time for pickup, and when I dropped by, my food was ready to go. One of the fun(and funny) things about this restaurant is that it’s located in the convenience store of a Shell gas station, but don’t fret because the food is great! There are staff that speak both Spanish and English, so don’t worry if your Spanish is limited like me. When I walked in, one of the women said to her coworker in Spanish that he had to take my order. Pretty safe assumption since I’m Asian. The food was great. I’m rarely disappointed when I eat pupusas, though I do need to note that these were not overly greasy, which I appreciated. I was given the option of spicy or mild salsa and opted for the spicy. Without thinking I dumped the whole container of salsa on my pupusas, which I soon regretted. Still, I was able to wipe most of it off so I could preserve some of my tongue for later. Even as I write this I’m drooling because I’m flying home and can’t wait til I can get some pupusas the next time I’m in Cali. Or maybe an abuela from El Salvador will move to Hawaii island some time soon and open a restaurant. That would make me really happy.

Simple menu but never disappoints for taste. Love their asada tacos. This is inside the shell gas station snack/drink store.

I just ordered a steak burrito. Wow. I’m impressed. I was a little sketch At first because it’s in a gas stations. But the ladies here know how to cook!!! It’s a small little kitchen in the corner. You have to try it to believe it.

This is one of the best restaurants I’ve been to. It seems a little suspicious since it is in a gas station but the food is delicious! The flavors are authentic Salvadorian, everything is home made including the drinks and salsas, and the employees are very friendly. I’ve taken my friends, family, and boyfriend there. The kitchen is in open view so you can see them make your food right before your eyes. I HIGHLY recommend for anyone looking for new flavors.

I mirror Lindsay’s review. Food is a 5, staff is a 5, atmospher is a 1.5, but not their fault, they are in a gas station mini-mart. Had the Super Burrito $ 7 delicious. Son had the Chicken Quesadilla $ 5.75 he said 5star, and shared a Horchata, it was the best I have had. Next time we are at the fairgrounds we will try them again. Thank you Helpers for helping me find this place, as was said before a hidden gem in the Shell station, found on a gem and mineral show weekend.

If it weren’t for other Unilocal reviews, never in my life I would have eaten at a gas station. The venue is unfortunate, a corner of the Shell mini-Mart(so minus one star, sorry). The food is good and absolutely reasonably priced.(That would deserve the 5 stars.) The only drawback: they gave me the fries already covered in ketchup. If you don’t like it, just remember to tell them. 4 stars overall.

They get 5 stars for the food… it’s fantastic! In terms of atmosphere, it’s located in a gas station… not so great. Ruth, the chef/owner(?) said they were moving in a few months, so hopefully that happens(having a larger space and being out of the gas station will benefit them greatly). Ruth is also super nice and helpful. Will be back again, but probably for takeout!

This is my umpteenth time at Loroco, I have been a fan of Salvadoran papusas for years. This is Thee Best spot in the South Bay for them. It’s kinda whack cuz it’s in a shell gas station but after you get past that. This place is everything. I only take off 1 star bcuz in my opinion you can’t eat comfortably here but that’s bcuz it’s in a gas station. After that, hats off Great, Food and service, I am a happy regular. Seriously come try their papusas Best around, at least the Reveulta ones are. The cost, get a full meal for like 5 bucks.

I decided to try this place despite the fact that restaurant is inside gas station. I got the salvadorean breakfast(eggs, beans, sour cream, and plantains). I also got atol de elite(sweet, hot corn drink). The food was mediocre. It was a basic scramble eggs! They didn’t even give you Salvadorean sour cream… it’s a generic white sour cream!!! This is unacceptable!!! It only comes with 2 pieces of plantains. The atol de elote was ok. I will not return here. Although the employee was nice, the food was good. I will stick with my salvadorean restaurants in Oakland.

I really was not expecting this place to be located inside the Shell gas station, but I guess there’s a first time for everything. This place is a hole in the wall, but their food speaks for itself, in particular the papusas! If there is one thing you must try here, it’s the papusas! In case you are curious as to what a Papusa is, it’s a savory cornmeal(or flour) cake with filling inside. There are several filling option to choose from here. My #1 pick would have to be the revuelta, which comes with beans, cheese and chicharron. There are two sauces you can add to your papusas. I was told by one of the servers that the red sauce would be spicier than the green sauce. I personally didn’t find a huge heat distinction between the two, but I did prefer the red sauce more. The cabbage slaw was a nice crunchy component to the meal. I highly recommend the fruit agua fresca! It had little chunks of fruits in it and was very refreshing! Not to mention, the cooks/servers here are really nice and friendly! The table my friend and I sat at was a bit dirty, and we ended up wiping it down ourselves. So –1 star for this and the flimsy plastic utensils they had. On the upside, they provide metal forks too, but that plastic knife… Grrr. All in all, don’t let the location blur your expectations of the food itself. We ended up ordering more to go! We must be going thru a Papusa phase… Lol.

Excellent little restaurant. Dinner for two consisted of 2 tasty pupusas, a plate of plantains, the tamale plate, and a couple of drinks. The loroco pupusa, slaw, and sauces were delicious and the liquado de naranja was FANTASTIC. The food was ultra fresh and the employees were extremely nice and provided top-notch customer service.
