*They recently remodeled and renamed the place. it now looks modern yet keeping the casual integrity intact. Anyways I am reviewing this place as Lu Bistro since I have tried them as such. I’ve been here many times in late 2010 when I first discovered this while driving around looking for a place to grab a quick bite. I’m glad I randomly stumbled upon this joint because this is a true gem. Seriously, 6 reviews? That goes to show you no one knows about this place, it is practically an easter egg. I love how unassuming and unpretentious this place is. It is tiny, but that is part of the charm of this mom and pop establishment. Now on with the best part, the food! The food here is straightforward, home style, authentic, simple, and scrumptious to the umpth degree. And prices are so reasonable and affordable. Your wallet will want to kiss you. Their new new menu has recently been rehauled to include more beef phở’s and other soups. While still including their highly delectable sandwhiches. The old menu has the usual’s. I have tried most of their Bahn Mi’s and a few of their soups. My favorites would have to be BBQ Pork, Grilled Pork, Chicken. You really can’t go wrong with any of them, they also have tofu and egg options. The soups are nothing short of yummy! The ones I have tried are chicken noodle soup(rice noodles) and combination(chinese egg noodles). The broths are very warm and comforting and are very satisfying to the soul. I don’t know how they make their broths but I hope they don’t use msg or the other. If they do I will let it slide, because of Fresh ingredients! The soups are laden with fresh veggies/herbs/meats/garnishes whatnot! Their menu also includes rice and noodle platters, fried rice, spring rolls, and pearl drinks to boot. Services is friendly, attentive and on point! I will patroning this pad for many eons!

Came w/my Mom yesterday. She wanted Vietnamese food, I wanted buffalo wings but since we are eating at an «American» place today, I gave in and took her here since I have been wanting to try this joint too. The menu is very limited– sandwiches, 2 selections of broken rice plates, 2 selections of vermicelli, and I believe 2 selections of egg noodle soup. They do have spring rolls and egg rolls. Prices were cheap, I admit. Service was super friendly. They were reluctant, I can tell when we first walked in cause they did not know we are Vietnamese. I ordered the combination sandwich, my Mom got the egg noodle soup, we shared the egg rolls and I had to have my Diet Pepsi. The food took a long time for a «deli» type of place despite the bistro in its name. My sandwich was good but there was no pâté so I was a tad disappointed. The sandwich is the size of Lee’s Sandwiches but cheaper. $ 2.75, baby! My Mom liked her soup! The spring rolls seem Americanized and did not contain the usual herbs and such in it but it was good, nonetheless. We wanted to order a sandwich to-go for later but they said they don’t have it because they received a lot of orders from nearby corporations. Oh well. This place accepts Visa/MC. It is a plus because I use my debit card everywhere and hardly carry cash. Parking is not that plentiful but since we had dinner around 4, the lot was spacious for us.

It’s a hole in the wall and the food is pretty good especially for the price. It’s fairly quick. Nothing to rant or rave about.

The food here is really good. It’s kind of small on the inside, but the guy who takes your order is really nice so it makes up for it. So far I have had: –Sandwich C which is the pork roll, it was good! Way better than the place I used to go to –Number 9 which is the pork chop and shrimp over rice, I loved it the shrimps were so good and the pork chop was also delicious but I liked the shrimp better. I wish they had just shrimp over rice or shrimp and egg over rice that would be so delicious –And I tasted the meat from number 10BBQ beef over rice, but it wasn’t my plate. The meat was good it was pretty standard, it kind of reminded me of the Korean BBQ ribs you get at one of those Asian buffets. I will definitely go here again because it is a really convenient spot for my lunch break and also because the food was delicious :)

I’ve had a great deal of Vietnamese food in the seventeen years that I have been alive and, well, to say the least, I’ve had it all. Or so I thought. Lu Bistro opened up with one thing in mind: to make delicious, authentic Vietnamese foods such as chicken sandwiches and BBQ pork with rice noodles. And heck do they do a helluva job. I’ll admit, it’s not the most fanciest, classiest, food that you could have, but what it offers is cheap, comfortable, delectable food; which isn’t bad for those who want good food, for good prices. The main reason I hold Lu Bistro in such high regard is perhaps its aesthetic nature. It’s just a simple place. You can’t find another place that has a more casual dining atmosphere than here. This is as simple and down to earth as it gets. The owners are hard working people who put their all into their little bistro, and it shows in their final products. The next time you’re down in Berryessa, I recommend making a stop by Lu Bistro, and ordering a banh mi xa xiu(bbq pork sandwich) they make one of the best! Oh and another thing before I go, the cashier that works there is amazingly gorgeous! That’s enough of a reason just to stop by =P

I’ve gotten into a rut — but it’s a great rut. Very near the San Jose golf course, so I stop in hear and grab a tray of 3 spring rolls($ 3.50 — each with 4 shrimp, lettuce, basil and noodles — nice brown sweet sauce and a little container of hot sauce — mixed, perfect) Yesterday the owner made me a sample of the BBQ chicken. Tender, tasty, certainly made me want to come back for a sit down meal. They are open 7 to 7 and I expect it’s a great breakfast. I agree with Matt H. about the friendliness and the pictures. I also think the food is extremely flavorful and a wonderful value. Hidden in a strip mall(between Mexican restaurant and liquor store). Perfect neighborhood stop.

It’s an average vietnamese restaurant. Notihing jumps out and takes your breath away, nothing makes you wanna leave and puke. What I enjoy about this place is the friendliness, the pictures of the banh mi(so you know that kind of meat that will be in your sandwich), and how fast the food comes out. Here’s what I’ve had there so far: several flavors of banh mi… grilled pork, grilled chicken, bbq pork. They server it to you on a baguette or french roll. The meats are decent, I preferred the grilled bbq pork. Wasn’t enough veggies in it for me… I love tons of cilantro and the pickled radish and carrots. fresh spring rolls Delicious. 2 for 3.50. Used to be 3. better than some places I’ve had. fried spring rolls YUM! there’s even taro in the srping roll making it fuller and adding an extra layer of taste grilled pork over rice noodle A staple. Delish. grilled pork and shrimp are very flavorful. plenty of green leaf veggies to consume too. The also offer other rice plates, phở(bun bo hue, chicken amongst others), and other kinds of banh mi. All in all, I’ll keep coming back because it is convenient and not bad.
