Mike’s Place

I remember when this place was touchdown tommys. Now that Mike owns it, I am super impressed! Mike is a very attentive owner, and has always made me feel welcome! This is very much a neighborhood bar, but just going in there makes you feel like you are a part of the neighborhood!

We stopped on our way home in order to try this place (had been passing in front of this place numerous time and had always told myself that it was a must try… yeah…I love dive bars :)
Bartender, super friendly, maybe too much on the acting side but yes, friendly.
Drinks? The well mix drink was really weak. We asked for a bit more vodka and we were proposed to order a «double»…why not. 1 beer and 1 double 17.5 $ + tips almost 20 $.
For 20 $ you can get the job done at Stevie’s or the Willow Denn…
Too bad because I feel this place could be a lot of fun.

I’ve passed by this place quite frequently and one day, I decided to swing by on a whim. So glad I found this nice, quaint bar. When I walked in, the bartender Joe greeted me with a big smile. Joe’s a great friendly guy! The bar is loaded with tvs all around the walls and a few arcade games.
Went for happy hour and the prices were great! They even had cheeze-​its, potato chips, and the cheeze-​it mix all along the bar… FREE!!!
I’m definitely going tobhit up this spot again!

What can I say? This place is my favorite go-​to spot for trivia in San Jose! Bart is an awesome host, but most importantly, the bartender Joe is extremely friendly and welcoming (even though I don’t drink!). The owner, Mike, occasionally stops in and is happy to offer handshakes and trade stories.
This place rocks!

This has to be the friendliest bar ever… The bartender, Joe, is very welcoming. You won’t find cliquish people here. The two best nights for me are Saturday and Wednesday. On Saturdays they have karaōke with Blanca and on Wednesdays they have trivia with Bart. It is so much fun!!! I wish I lived closer, then I’d be there every night.

This is one cool place. Really friendly staff and great crowd with a good mix of young and old. They remembered my name and my drink after just a couple drinks. Mike and his brother Joe are super friendly guys.

I come here alone quite often, because I enjoy my alone time a lot.
The bartenders are all very friendly. Especially Carlos. He’s nice to have a brief conversation with and a nice person. (Not saying the others aren’t). I only drink beer and scotch so I can’t really comment on their drink-​making experience. But from what I observe they’re all above par.
They do have pool tables and a digital juke-​box! I don’t play much pool although they’re all being used, but I do enjoy the juke-​box. It’s always interesting to hear everyone’s taste in music.
I know this is a bar and this where people come to get drunk, but the reason why I’m giving this a 4 star is because it can sometimes be loud. Poor me. I know.
Also the bathrooms could be in better shape although not terribly dirty. They were supposed to put in carpet about 3 – 4 weeks ago but it’s been delayed for sometime.
If anyone is reading this I would recommend not getting carpet but instead either wood floors or leave it the way it is. It’s a bar and people are bound to spill their drink on the carpet or even throw up. It will stain (which would make the place look dirtier than it really is) and will also hold the smell of liquor and throw up.

Cool joint. Mike, the owner, is really friendly and down to earth! Great place to grab a drink, socialize, and watch sports!

I retract my previous review. Went a 2^nd and 3^rd time. Guys were great after all. Everyone has bad days. But they ended up bring a really cool and comforting neighborhood bar. Sorry for the previous review. Thanks Joe for the positive experience. It means a whole lot. It goes to prove that people deserve a second shot. SPECIALLY THIS PLACE, MIKE’S PLACE! Coming back! !! I’ve known Mike for a long time as many do in the area. He is a great guy… friendly as heck, super engaging and a trivia nut! Just what you want in a bartender… owner kind of neighborhood bar! Lot’s of people Mike has known for decades via his historical route of «bar hoping» vocations… come as regulars to Mike’s Place and have casual interaction. It’s like an old school family bar with TV’s and lots of talk. It’s a peaceful cool place for an after work drink or Friday night casual time. I highly recommend!

Mike makes a «mean bloody mary» drink; I like the sports memorabilia and the many TV’s. Mike, when a tennis match is on, possibly you can have it on (US Open begins next week!) Love you Mike, Keith and Vikki,

I was a regular at this bar until last night. Now I been banned to go there.
My crime was that I pointed out to the owner that they had made a mistake by using my American Express card. He threw some crumpled bills at me and asked the bouncer to lead me out.
Now American Express has accepted this complaint as fraud and will be dealing with this arrogant (potencially racist) owner

Recently I was in the San Jose area visiting friends and they suggested we go to a fairly new bar that had opened up in their neighborhood. I believe it had recently replaced another bar as I recall. We were all made to feel comfortable right from the get-​go. The bartender was FUNNY and poured some mean drinks :) The crowd all seemed like they knew each other, were friendly and the music was great. The owner, Mike, came by to check on our group, bought us all a round of drinks and was quick to introduce us to others to make us feel at home. I live in Hawaii now but so wish we had a place like that to go to here. Really comfortable «Cheers-​Like» place.

Very clean without the sour bar smell that makes you want to scamper out as quickly as you scampered in. Lovely taco cart outside in the parking lot is a refreshing low cost change from the unpalatable Costco microwave fare available at competing establishments. Great place for a beer, a taco (if the cart is open, definitely MUST have a taco) and the World Cup!

RIP Touchdown Tommy’s. We stopped by, hoping for, you know a drink made by a bartender and to pay them in return. Sadly, in a bar filled to the brim with 5 people, it took 15 minutes to get served. Finally the bartender decided to take an intermission in his conversation.
Before my girlfriend and I could place our order, he made sure to point out that we couldn’t sit at the stools we were standing near, because someone was already sitting there. At this moment it became clear we were in a bizzaro episode of ‘Bar Rescue’ where the bartenders buddies were more important than new business, and that was that.

Loving this new bar! Fun atmosphere and great prices!

This place is amazing. Great people and the drinks are fabulous. Mike makes an awesome Tom Collins and Joe makes a mean Bloody Mary.

I love Mike’s. Mike is the sweetest. Him and his staff are so welcoming. I’ve enjoyed going there for the football games. There are a lot of TVs so no matter where you sit you can always see what’s on. His drinks are great. I love it most of all because it’s soooo relaxing there and a great place to just chill. :)
