This used to be the same restaurant in Los Altos. When I found out where it moved to, I came and try it again. Vegetable/bacon rice baked in a pot: Still very good… not too oily. Flavor of the home make bacon is just right. Shanghai style chow mein: They do it in a different way from other Shanghainese restaurant and that’s what I missed the most. Dry and flavorful with spinach and pork strips. Still very good. Dumplings: I had these soup with wonton before, but this time I tried the one with a different herbs. The flavor was good but the soup base was lack of flavor. They used to do it better with dried shrimps and chicken soup which has much richer flavor, this time could be a one miss situation. Can’t tell. Haven’t tried it again yet. pan fried bun: Forget about this one. The meat inside still taste very good but the dough is really bad. Highly discourage. Try their other steam bun with soup inside. That should be ok. But I didn’t try this time. There is this Shanghainese noodle that I really like, it’s called green onion and sauce noodle. The trick is to mix them well, the flavor is excellent. I had this at every Shanghainese restaurant because they are cheaper and very flavorful. All in all, it was good… but the pan fry bun spoil the party.

This place has good food, affordable prices and has a homey feeling. They have some good options for vegetarians and the service here is excellent!

Service: People are definitely very friendly here… I dont know if it was because we were the only customer at the time or what but hey! I got good service :) Food: the okay part of my dining experience… pan fried noodles-too little sauce… this bamboo meat dish-too little flavor sizzling soup-good! :) famous duck dish– i like it! :) it was pretty good smoked fish(cold dish)-my mom likes it and she said it was good so… its good LOL overall i am just disappointed with the pan fried noodles since i really wanted that to be good.

Every time I’ve gone to this restaurant it’s always nice and quiet. The service is excellent and the food is outrageously great! What impressed me most was when they closed for their lunch hour they even let me and my family join them as they set us up for our own table and still served us as they were on their break. Now that’s customer service. And for a little Unilocal tip; every $ 20 dollars you spend you earn a $ 5 reward certificate for your next visit.

Some of their speciality dishes are quite good(especially ones like the shanghainese rice noodles, various fish fillet dishes), and the service is warm/friendly/family-oriented. That said, we liked it quite a bit… and will be returning, but it’s not at the top top of our list.

My face is becoming too familiar here. I like those soup dumplings. I also get the salt and pepper tofu, the vermicelli pork hot pot, no soup and the spicy fish in black bean sauce. — not all in the same visit — that is the problem, I just keep going back… The service is fabulous, so kind and prompt. I don’t feel the least bit embarassed for showing up every night.

Great service, but their food wasn’t authentic. Tried the egg corn soup and it was way to starchy. Skin was too hard for the steamed dumplings. I would say the bird nest egg noodles was better than everything else, but would probably not come back for chinese food here.

Food is not so great. I got a sweet and sour pork that was watered down and not crunchy. The other thing I ordered was the Mongolian beef, which is okay and more flavored than the ss pork. Sadly panda express makes better food… 2 stars The one thing good about this place is their great service and very friendly. +1 star

went here to pick up dinner for work. the only thing i remember is how the messed up on the green onion pancake… and it was not that good. i do like their cold tofu dish(not sure what its called). everything else was okay. not memorable. stars only because the lady saw i had literally no hands to carry all the food the company ordered and she offered to bring them to my car. There werent many people inside, so i guess tahts why she did it. She did give me coupons. they were like $ 2-$ 5 dollars off your meal. in a small plaza. okay food.

Overall, a decent shanghainese place, even if they do lack some finesse for some very trypical shanghainese dishes. What I liked? The stir fried dishes. My husband ordered veggies stir fried with gluten(omg, gluten so delicious) and the pork stuffed gluten ball. Those two dishes are worth 4 stars alone. We also noticed a picture of stir fried clover leaf(another fave of my husband) so we’re coming back to get that next. He claims it’s rare to see that dish at a restaurant in the U.S. What I didn’t like? The shen jian bao. Ugh, talk about what shen jian bao is NOT supposed to be. No soup, very dry skin. Blegh. Service was great, both the women working there were friendly and the food came out fast. So I’d say, come here for stir fried dishes, but stick to Shanghai Flavor Shop for their dumplings.

It was late(past 9pm on a rando weekday), we were hungry, and all other options were closed. New Shanghai’s neon OPEN sign was still on, so we froggered over from the plaza across the street. Small, clean space, moderately filled(I think 3 – 4 tables when we arrived, which was surprising given the late hour), staffed by two friendly women. We looked over the menu– nothing stood out– and ordered a fish(EL’s choice), some homestyle tofu, and stir fried niangao(Chinese rice cakes). The food sucked. The fish was bland and drenched in a terrible cornstarch thickened sauce. The tofu looked promising, but was also incredibly bland(it didn’t help that the tofu chunks were really thick). The niangao was SO overcooked; totally mushy when it was supposed to be slightly chewy. Ick. OVERALL: Even though we were all hungry, we didn’t finish any of the 3 dishes we ordered. EL had the luck of taking all the leftovers home. I don’t remember the $total, but I do remember feeling a bit cheated. Maybe the food is better when you come during rush hour…

I was going to knock down a star because it was pretty empty… but that just meant great service for me, so I’ll just keep it as is. Came here with my family for my grandma’s birthday. We ordered tons of food, and all of them came out quickly, and tasted wonderful. My parents and grandparents like the food, so its gotta be pretty authentic! The fish fillets in wine sauce, was awesome.

Great place, close to where I live. I’ve tried about 20 different items on their menu so far, both dine-in and take out — all fantastic. I have recommend the salt and pepper fish filets, however! Dining in is nice — nice staff, attentive and good with kids. Take out is good too — I recently picked up nine dishes from them that I had called in and needed exactly on time — they had it all ready at the exact time I had asked for — all ready to go. All delicious too!

Service: waiters are attentive and speedy with any requests you might have. Food: We ordered some spring vegetables and dried yellow chicken and fried fish. The fried fish looks like they threw some stiff fish on a blank plate but it tastes really good and you can eat the fish whole. The yellow chicken was thick and meaty. The spring vegetables may taste bland to some but you feel like you lost weight eating this. Environment: The entire restaurant is one room so there’s not much privacy in here. There’s no music or background noise so all you get to hear is utensils clattering and people eating.

This is our favorite Chinese restaurant. We 4 friends drive here for dinner from Mountain View and South SJ. The owners were the former proprietors of Shanghai Taste Delight in Mountain View. The one dish we love and haven’t found anywhere else is their stuffed eggplant, which has a sweet spicy sauce. We usually have it as our dessert. Dinner usually comes with a Chinese dessert, like a sweet red bean soup or fried mochi. Some other dishes we enjoy are: Shanghai wild vegetable tofu shredded pork soup Fish fillet in wine sauce Sauteed chicken with hot bean paste(spicy) Mustard green with bean curd sheets and soy bean Rice cake with shredded pork and napa cabbage Yellow bird(bean curd sheets with soy beans)

If not for the spotless cleanliness, and the very attentive and friendly wait staff, your esteemed Captain would be dropping the dreaded una star bomb on this confused, inept, yet apparently well-meaning establishment. There seemed to be patches of proficiency here and there, which several full tables of Asian families attested to. They were having pleasant dining experiences, and the place looked so sparkling and professional. My Hexadecimal Betrothed and I set about choosing our meals with warm fuzzy anticipation. We were each given two menus. One seemed about the right size for a tiny joint like this, and featured hot pots and dim sum mostly, and was limited in scope. The other was a very large menu which featured not only Shanghai dishes but a plethora of «Chinamerican» ones as well. Intrigued by this cheeky multitude of choices, we decided to go with 3 mainstream dishes, and thought we’d ease into their specialties by ordering dim sum as an appetizer. Neither of us had ever tried a Chinese style hot pot before, let alone a Shanghai one, and being a little unsure as to exactly what they were, we figured we’d try those next time. The three dishes, sweet and sour pork, sliced beef and broccoli with a brown«Hunan» style sauce, and salt and pepper shrimp arrived separately with a healthy interval in between, but there was no sign of the dim sum appetizer. As it turned out, drinking green tea and diet Coke while anticipating our meals arrival, was the only enjoyable part of the experience. That, and watching the service and kitchen staffs colliding as they rushed madly in and out through the kitchen door. We feared more than once we might have to cover our ears to muffle the sound of crashing trays, but somehow, these were all averted by a whisker or three… «Awright Pa! I mean Cap’n! On to the bloodletting! That meal was so bad, it just laid there and howled at the moon!» [[These periodic, semi-psychotic outbursts are brought to you by Ma Megabyte The Hexadecimal Hellcat, who is The Captain’s Spouse, Chief Tormentor, and Partner in Crime.]] Sigh… Yes Ma. Here goes… Wait a minute… MA! Is that the dastardly and vituperative Sarcasmatron I hear warming up? «Yer damned toot’n it is! Now git bizzy! Slash and Burn!» With relish, Ma! AHEM! The sweet sour pork was simply the worst in my long, world weary memory. It featured astonishingly soggy, grease-drenched gobs of batter surrounding nasty bits of gristle and fat which might have belonged to a pork critter at one time. Sauce was straight out of a can. I find myself struck with a curious sort of amnesia concerning the veggies. Either they were so awful, I am blocking them subconsciously and can’t bear to remember, or they were actually just fine and I was so appalled by the rest of it I didn’t notice. Doesn’t matter, I’m still drawing a blank. Steerike One! The salt pepper shrimp looked promising, especially considering they were served whole, which most«round eyes» don’t appreciate, but Ma and The Captain certainly do. Unlike the delectable examples we have been served elsewhere, notably at the Golden Palace in Santa Clara, these were sticky and rubbery, and it was so difficult to get to the meat, we simply gave up. Steerike Two! Whatever the beef with broccoli was called, the gummy slices of tough flavorless meat slathered in a generic, bland Chinese brown sauce, and served indifferently, were only marginally edible. We didn’t bother. Steerike Three! Yer OUT! «NOTSOFASTCAP“N! Ya still hazn’t told em ’bout the dim sum!» GROAN! Must I? It’s so distressing in a nauseating sort of … «Suck it up fat boy and relate, damn it!!» Sigh… Demoralized and glassy eyed whilst we surveyed our three nearly untouched dishes, the Server surprised us with our missing dim sum. This was the appetizer which had failed to appear as such. It now made its entrance as dessert. A faint hope wafted through our cloud of despair because we thought this disaster might yet be mitigated by a really good taste of dim sum. We fancied we could hear the ghosts of someone’s ancestors whispering and giggling as we sampled this belated offering. The«crust» was leathery and raw tasting. The filling was alleged to be pork, but the pasty, tepid blob inside could have masqueraded as just about anything else… Are you happy now, Ma? I’m so depressed… «Doncha member Pa? we ended up at Burger King afterwards, and I got you that milk shake and the paper crown? You said it was the best burger dinner ever.» Oh! Yes! the Shrek toys, the fries, the nice policeman and the Vicodin! I remember, and I do feel better now. I do I do I do I do I do I do! Ah, jist shut up and git in the truck, ya mullet.“ This and all other reviews posted on by «Captain Pie Hole» are copyrighted 2009⁄2010 by Pie Hole Publishing. All rights reserved.

Fish in wine… YUM. The lion balls, not so good. We had a vegetable thing in rice noodles that was amazing(just don’t eat all of it, got kinda salty near the end). Spicy noodle soup was only okay. It was pretty slow when we went for dinner, maybe that’s why we didn’t have any issues with the service… and the price was definitely right.

heartell new shanghai is somehow related to shanghai taste delight from mountain view. no insight on this rumor. the interior is lite greenish colored and there is no distinguishing décor. i received 2 menus, a regular one and a «special menu». flatscreen: chinese historical drama(soap) sampling: –xiao lung bao(8/5.95):pretty thick skins on this babies. delicious juice(msg?) when the skin isn’t broken. a morsel of tasteless meat inside. –spicy braised beef noodle soup(5.95): braised beef not tender, soup salty not spicy, tasted like soy sauce, noodles bland, either dry kind or the cheap fresh kind, noodles a little mushy. –wu xi pie gu(blacken spareribs7.95): meat not falling off the bone, meat kind of chewy. –large meat ball with brown sauce(lion’s head)(special menu4.95 reg 6.95) 2 large meat balls with 2 pieces veggie with a brown sauce. ok. just average. sighting:fried dumpling(shen jen bing 6/5.95)dumpling looked huge! probably lots of dough, little meat… takeouts –slight msg aftertaste. –menu is organized only in categories of pork, chicken, beef. dim sum, hot pot, soups, noodles, seafood, claypot, etc. –special menu is one long list. shanghai dishes can be found on both lists. –everyone speaks mandarin here, few english speaking customers. –service friendly but disorganized. –not recommended. food didn’t taste right. beef not tender enough, etc. –just order my regulars. not good. do you feel lucky?

Came by to go to Mai lan Vietnamese Restaurant, saw this little* place 3 doors down. Little is a misnomer, it’s quite big inside, super clean and spacious. While waiting, they served me a free cup of boba. Ordered the lunch special of shredded pork and bean curd sheets. It arrived in eight minutes with a side of freshly cooked white rice. Overall, the taste of the food was two stars, it wasn’t bad just ok, it tasted good but not mahvelous. Will return to try other dishes. Customer service: excellent. Décor: super clean, new carpeting, spotless bathroom.
