NOTE: Hermes is moving to a NEWLOCATION! Stay tuned folks and I’ll update you on where and when Hermes re-opens. What prompted a visit to Hermes for lunch today was a visit with my dear mother! I told her I would treat her to lunch and to pick the spot. She chose Hermes and off we went. Upon arriving, I noticed the sign was gone and a note was on the door. It stated they were closed and moving to a new location. Undeterred, I took my cell phone out and called the restaurant as the lights were on and perhaps someone was inside that could give me additional information(i.e. where is the new location?). A gentleman answered the call and I told him I was in front of the restaurant. He came out and told me the current and future plans for this mom and pop business. Across the street where the former Home Depot was located, a new Seafood City supermarket will go up. It is in that soon to be renovated shopping center that Hermes plans to relocate to. While this is not a review on the food(which has some traditional and not so traditional Filipino entrees), I wanted to pass the word on about this mom and pop spot that I like to patronize. I don’t compare Filipino restaurants to my own family’s cooking as everyone has their own take on what they like to cook. Instead, I go with an open mind and see if I like the restaurant’s version on chicken adobo and other Filipino entrees. If you approach restaurants with an open mind, you might be surprised folks…

this place is pretty good, i guess. i’m more of a fan of my mother’s cooking of course. what i do like is the bbq pork and pancit malabon. NOT a big fan of the chicken adobo. i just never imagined a crispy adobo. oh well! if you’re in the mood for decent filipino food without the expensive price, make sure to come here.

I recommend the health department make a visit to this place. I went there and ordered what I thought was adobe and they bring out fried chicken with some sauce poured on top. The chicken tasted old and I could not even eat more than a few bites. Today I feel the beginning of a sore throat that I have a feeling the woman who was working there and coughing constantly was spreading these germs. This was one of the worst meals I have had in many years.

my first time there was just to order to go… which made me feel like alright ok. i got my food fast maybe this place isn’t so bad. $ 9 for some freshly fried giant portion for one lechon kawali! but eating here was def. a different story. i came about an hour till closing. i order the same thing and the gave me the vibe of. eat at home so i can close up too. i had my boyfriend go through the menu so he can figure out what he wants. i think their menu sucks. its not even true filipino. geees i think i saw something like fettuccine Alfredo on there… not sure exactly what but i remember it was an Italian pasta dish i thought them taking your order at the table with them giving you the menu means they serve you. not leave it on the counter for you to get and you gotta get your own utensils too? i mean i can do all that but their service seems all over the place.

I came by here on Sunday, I knew I should’ve called ahead because I came to a closed restaurant. What the eff Hermes?! What’s up with the random ass operating hours. I came here at like 3:30 too. WHAT. THE. HELL. I swear this restaurant hates me.

I really like the food here. We’ve ordered the Kare Kare, Lumpia Shanghai and Lechon Kawali. We usually order to go and the servings are more than enough for dinner and lunch the next day! I’d compare the Kare Kare to my mom’s and that says a LOT! The hours are kinda weird though so I would suggest calling first to find out if they’re open so you don’t get disappointed.

God I miss this place! The chicken adobo is not totally authentic but it’s soooooooooo good! Especially with the yummy mango salsa. Everything I’ve had here has been so delicious. I just wish you had a restaurant up here in the Seattle Area! Boo! I look forward to visiting San Jose so I can eat at Hermes! Miss you soooo much!!!

Alright, I know you’re asking yourself why I give this place a 5 starmy mom’s friend owns this place but the owners worked really hard to open up their own restaurant that serves traditional filipino dishes. I’m pleased to say that they truly deserve a lot of credit. Located off of Landess and Morrill Avenue, sits a restaurant filled with nostalgic dishesMilpitas hidden gem. This is a family owned business, so all of their food on their menu is fresh and authentic nothing like Goldilocks and Red Ribbon. You could never go wrong with Adobo(a well-known filipino dish) or their scrumptious Halo-Halo dessert served with a scoop of ice cream of your choice. The food portion comes out large in size, suitable for two people. Prices are inexpensive, so you come here for what you order and feel satisfied. In sight, they have 10 dishes to select or their turo-turo specials from the buffet line, but if you don’t see what you plan to order, they would be more than happy to stir-up something quick and pleasing from their menu. Good choices to order: –Adobo served with garlic rice, lumpia shanghai(egg rolls) and mango salad –Kare Kare(seems like a lot of the reviewers love this choice by far) –Beef Afritada(hearty tomato-based soup with Green and Red bell peppers, olives, and potatoes) –turon(sweet banana lumpia roll) –lechon kawali(fried side-pork), garlic rice, mango salad –Pancit palabok The décor is keen to the eye and pleasant. It’s a not a huge dining room, but they have a great homey feel when you walk through the door. Bathroom is well-kept and clean. Friendly staffIt’s like coming home to the Philippines and trying all of the excellent foods brought to you by them. They also offer catering services, so it’s best to call over the phone or drop in to check out their catering prices and what else they can provide for you. Unfortunately, I don’t see a website with more information.

It was okay I guess. I like filipino food, but this place didn’t do it for me. Mediocre.

Aww, I love mom and pop shops. So instead of having lunch at the Togo’s next door, I opted for some Filipino home-cookin’. Upon walking in, I see an occupied table towards the back, which turned out to be the employees on their lunch break. A nice lady greeted me and stood by as I took a look at their wall menu. Looks like they have pre-set combo meals… I wasn’t sure if they offered 1 and 2 entrée combo plates like most other turo-turo places. However– since I wanted to try their version of chicken adobo; fried and then drizzled with a sauce(as per another Unilocaler), I ordered the #1. To go please! My meal was made to order, so I sat down at an empty table and kept myself entertained with the Filipino version of the«Singing Bee».(The tranny-looking contestant w/«J.LO» as her stage name screwed up on so many classic songs. LOL… I guess her name fits.) About 10 minutes later, my food is ready to go. IMPORTANTE!!! ***Although they accept Visa/Mastercards, it’s ONLY with a minimum of $ 15 for each purchase… so be aware of that.*** Because of this, I had to pay cash, which was fortunate that I happened to even have a $ 20 on me. Now, onto the food. It had 3 pcs of chicken(white meat) that was indeed, fried and then doused in a sauce. The sauce was a little strange to me, but I liked the fried chicken skin. I wish they used the dark meat because it was more on the dry side. The lumpiang shanghai was yummy! Nice color and crispiness of the shell. The mango salsa, with julienned mango, cilantro, and red onions, was refreshing and reminded me of papaya salad. Lastly, the garlic rice. Unfortunately I was disappointed by my batch, it wasn’t very good in flavor, and I had to spit out a spoonful after biting into a huge chunk of garlic. I’ll forgive them this time, but hopefully the next batch will be better! Overall though, they have good sized portions compared to most Filipino turo-turos for your buck. The regular menu and catering menu is now posted for your viewing pleasure. [Subject to change.]

I’d seen this place a million times, but never went in to eat. I was craving Filipino food, and, after reading the reviews, decided to give it a try. The food was tasty, and the serving size was humongous. The ambiance is more of a fast food place, but the workers were really nice. The one at the counter knew there was no way we were finishing the kare-kare, so before I could even ask, she had to-go containers ready and waiting for me. Downsides? They have a total of 1 high chair. My daughter was given the alternative-a booster seat with no straps. Oh, and the chairs and table were sticky. Eww. Both are things that can change. So 4 stars because I love food.

peep this, I’m a fully dark-assed filipino, my wife is ½ and ½ white. I’m not really into filipino food as much as my wife is, and she calls me the whitey(sad, i know). But after convincing me to come and try hermes, i must say, it was like re-connecting with my roots(i got yo’ freedom — roots). I like the bbq pork-stick with mango salsa. All the other stuff, seems like sh** my mama could make.

I’m one of the blessed Filipinas who has a Mother who masterfully cooks all kinds of Filipino food. I haven’t however, been blessed with the same skill/talent as my mother. So here is where a 31 year old, married to a Korean husband, mother to one boy, comes to feed her family when they’re yearning for some old fashioned Pinoy Delicacies. I highly recommend the Adobo. It’s not your typical Adobo. It’s actually fried chicken, then they add an Adobo sauce on top. Served with rice. Heaven. Plain and simple. It’s a safe bet if you’re not a Filipino Food Expert. Novice Filipino Food eaters will enjoy Adobo at Hermes and will likely explore other foods :)

I’ve been here one time a few years back when they had just opened up shop; but that was just for some halo-halo, which, by the way was fantastic! So my husband, daughter and I wanted to try it out today after Sunday Mass. Let me tell ya, the items we’d ordered were not only delicious, but generous in serving size! It’s not often you come into a filipino restaurant and find less price for your grub =) We ordered the # 1 which was the chicken adobo, # 6 Pancit malabon(yummmmm), and the lechon kawali(major yum and their serving sizes were so huge that we had to pack some to go). Our total meal cost including refillable soda came to $ 28 which I found to be relatively cheaper than other restaurants ie Goldilocks, Jerry’s Grill, and others. We will definitely be coming back for more! Thanks to Unilocal I was able to find that this restaurant had great reviews and now I, too, can attest why! =)

Hermes is the best Filipino food I’ve had. The proportions are hearty, and their friendly. I always get my food to go, just because I prefer eating at home. But it’s always a good day when the family and I get Hermes. They have been around for a while now, and I’m glad because a lot of mom-pop Filipino restaurants don’t make it pass the two year mark. It is definitely a place to try. They laugh at me when I don’t pronounce things correctly but whatever man! I was born here! And it’s still worth the slight embarrassment of asking what certain dishes are called and what is in it… I knocked off one star only because they aren’t open on Mondays, and close early on the days they are and they don’t have a vegetarian options when it comes to their pansit malabon. Which in my opinion is THEBEST!!!

This place really impressed me. A LOT. Their food is presented so well, it’s not just thrown together like most places. It’s clean, prices can be a little on the higher side of «fast food», but none the less, everything I’ve had from them has been delicious. whether it be carry out, or catering. I was a little uneasy ordering from them for a party when they first opened about 3 year ago. but DAMN was I impressed. Not only did they deliver for me, their portions were freaking humongous! All in all, the food is fresh, the possibly gay man and woman that run the place usually are really sweet, and it’s good. Shutup, and enjoy it!

So here’s the deal I’ve been blessed with a Filipino mom who doesn’t like to cook. I know and crave many a Filipino dish but have to rely on restaurants to satisfy these cravings. Enter Hermes home of yummy crispy pata, and all that is good in the Filipino culinary world. The food here is very good, relatively inexpensive, and the dining area while small is clean and comfortable. My fave dishes at Hermes are the crispy pata, lumpiang sariwa, pancit malabon, and the sinigang. My mom likes their food because it’s authentic and even more important she doesn’t have to cook it.

I actually like their Sinigang! Missing one star because I dont get that line thing they got going on on how its set up, and especially when I walked in they just looked at me. A simple HELLO! would be nice! Or at least«What can I get you?» type of things. Good food though, I give them 4 stars

I thought this place was pretty good. The first time I came here, I got this beef stew type thing in tomatoe sauce. which I looved. But the next time I came, the pancit was dry and the soup was way salty. I would definitely come back though just for the family atmosphere and quick service. It’s pretty cheap so that’s always a plus

The food is sub par, I went here to get kare kare due to the previous poster saying how good it was. i went here on one of the days of the week but they said they only make kare kare on some days so I returned on the day they said they would make it but wasn’t impressed. The sauce was too watered down and the meat wasn’t too great. So if I can give it a 2 ½ I would but overall it’s okay.
