We’ve been here a few times and I’m never really satisfied with their desserts yet we keep trying because my Mom likes to think places just have bad days — which I agree with, but the leche flan is more like scrambled egg in texture and most of the rest lacks the rich sweet flavor you look for in filippino dessert. To top it all off we bought a puto/kutsinta mix pack today and it was spoiled. The older lady said that they change their display daily. I got a package in the middle of the display so it wouldn’t be the first on the shelf or the last one put on the shelf… or so that was my thinking. Anyway, just refund my purchase because whatever the cause/excuse is, it’s spoiled. I don’t know if my Mom will want to give it another try. As for me, I’m done giving chances.

I am always skeptical with Filipino stores because of their bad customer service. But by far this is the worst customer service ever. The food is just ok. It’s probably pretty good for the people who never have authentic Filipino food and dessert back home.

Don’t know about these low star reviews but I like this place. I like that they have packaged sampler items because I like a little bit of everything. Satisfies my Filipino dessert cravings! Recently, I picked up some Putsinta(hybrid of puto and kutsinta. what?!! 2 of my faves in 1! Heck yeah!) I also get their Turon and ginataan.

got some putt and cassava cake… my god, how is this place still in business. the instant box ones are better that what they are selling. got an order of palabok, i think they have never heard of SALT. it was eating water with noodles. no taste at all. thank god for fish sauce… it somewhat saved it. I don’t think they taste what they serve.

My Ratings: Quantity: 4 Quality: 4 Price: 4 Location: 4 Parking: 3 Service: 4 Speed: 4 Overall: One of the best places to get your«kakanin», filipino desserts. You can order one of their party trays(desserts) on the same day or in advance. I haven’t tried ordering thru the phone and I’ve seen several reviews that they screw that part up but I hardly order their party trays so it’s not a big deal for me. When I crave for it, I do get my desserts there since they are affordable and very tasty.

This place has gotten better –before there was hardly anything to buy. I stopped by, and they had more selection in stock. I picked up a 12 pc puto/kutsinta for a few bucks as well as a buco pandan jello for a couple bucks — not bad! The puto kutsinta was reasonably priced and fresh. I would get a party tray here.

This place is a MUST visit when you are in the bay area! They have the BEST selection of Filipino desserts you can imagine! I have been to too many places that sells desserts and this place GOT the things you’ve been craving for! Give them a visit! I know I will and I sent my sister while visiting the bay area and she too said it was worth the drive! She bought so much she had to buy a cooler and brought it with her to L, A, a week worth of desserts! There’s a few in the San Diego area but not the same as this place. I highly recommend this place!

They don’t do pre orders on party trays for New Year’s Eve and… ITWASHORRENDOUS! We literally waited for 2 hours to say the least just to get a party tray. Customers were vicious and the man that handled the front was not so friendly. He was yelling out, «The wait is going to be long, it could be an hour or even two, so if you don’t want to wait you can just go elsewhere.» I’m glad that he gave people the heads up but he could have been a tad bit nicer about it. The dessert was good, but because of that horrible customer service, I’m not too sure if I would go back again…

So I called on Thanksgiving morning to see what time they’re open and closed. Once they said they’re open, I wanted to make an order, but they said they didn’t take orders through the phone So I walked in and placed an order, I wanted the vegetable eggroll, but they said that we should of called to in order to prepare the order. This pissed me off because the guy said we couldn’t order through the phone, and now we couldn’t order it in person. We had to settle with turon. It took over 2 hours to cook 50 turon. I will never go back here, customer service was horrible, and ordering wise, just walk in. Because they«obviously» don’t take order over the phone.

Awh this place disappoint me ! :( I was so excited to check this place out & when I came here there was 2 police & people surrounded. I guess there was a fight next door, whatever. I went to the store it was like at 6pmish & everything was almost finish, I only got Puto & some fried shrimp thingie. I expected more but I ended up buying more Puto at goldilocks, this one is more gooey. I didn’t like it. Well it’s better to know then wonder.

I don’t know why, but we’ve decided to order Pancit Malabon here for a small family gathering. Oh, what a disappointment! Never again. I thought Pancit Malabon is all about the seafood. All we got from here is noodles with some type of an orange sauce which is not even close to tasting like a palabok, let alone a malabon. It had little bits of ground pork and sliced hard boiled egg. On top of that, the noodles were not cooked. It was hard. Sad. We also got some puto with ube halaya. The puto batter was still raw. Never again :(

Filipino Deserts has a few stores in san diego and this one in san jose. rounding to 4 from 3.5 since there isn’t a lot of filipino desert shops around. place is small. just a counter, a few shelves, and a frying unit on the front counter. eats: –banana turon(.60) freshly made banana fried within crispy lumpia shell. interesting and novel for a few bites –malabanos(kutsinta with red monggo beans, 2.30/8oz) tastes like the chinese tamale version, the kind made of lye water and bean filling. –chinese tamale cheaper. in the $ 1.50 range –filipino version sweeter and has coconut within. footnotes: –desserts have resemblences to chinese and japanese versions. –everything looked fresh here.

A Filipino Dessert place surrounded by well known Filipino establishments like Seafood City, Goldilocks, and Chowking… Good location! My mom and I were walking around Seafood City for snacks and drinks, but got distracted and saw Filipino Desserts Plus! I like Filipino desserts but I can’t eat too much of one thing, so I like how they sell them with varieties. The guy working there told us that the ones on the counter were freshly made and cheap! For $ 4.40 you get a good amount of assorted desserts such as sapin-sapin, pichi-pichi, and etc… I will definitely be back to try their other food!

I’m going to keep this review short and just go straight to the point. Supposively this store is famous down in San Diego and they have decided to open one up here in San Jose. I don’t care if you are famous in a different location, it doesn’t mean you are famous here too. Why I don’t understand is why their pricing more expensive than the well established pastry stores like Goldilocks, Valerios, or V Tropical. Also, what really threw me off is when this store just barely opened up. The owner’s Mom was there and she was super rude at everybody… at the customers and to the staffs. You can hear her yelling at someone, banging and slamming things around and cursing at them, saying they are stupid. And this has happened all 3 times that I went there, so she can’t say that she was just having a bad day. I don’t go here anymore because I believe in supporting stores/restaurants that treats their employees right. Just because you are the boss, it doesn’t mean you have to treat people any less, they are still human! So for the owner, please calm your Mom down! And please either have cheaper pricings or atleast match the other store’s prices because you need to build up your customer base first. For now, I will stay away from this restaurant unless they do some changes.

I’m a sucker for dessert. I am even a bigger sucker for dessert when it is a Filipino dessert. My people are extremely versatile with making making dessert out of a few ingredients: rice, sugar, and coconut milk. WIth these being the base for most of the sweets here, it makes me realize that a large amount of what they offer is gluten-free friendly. How inclusive my peeps are for those with gluten-intolerance! What also differentiates Filipino Desserts Plus is that they offer some Filipino merienda(snacks) that I have not seen at other bakeries. They offer some beautiful sapin-sapin which is a multi-colored layered rice dessert; kuchinta(a steamed rice cake flavored with lye water) in cake form, rather than the usual small half-dollar sized cakes; biko(rice cakes with coconut milk) in large chunks, and ginataan munggo(mung beans in coconut milk). just to name a few. The folks behind the counter have always been kind and have had a smile on their face and seemed to really appreciate folks coming in. Most of their trays go for $ 2.50+ and good enough, for well, dessert for two. You’re in for a treat if you like different types of dessert. Just make sure your eyes aren’t as big as what you can stomach. I’m not guilty of that or walking out with $ 20 worth of stuff – just for myself. I’ve just heard of people that have. Um, yeah.

Nicely priced. If you are craving Filipino food but only have the change in your couch, this is the place you go to curb the cravings. BUT. It’s a very watered down version of Filipino desserts. We ordered several — sapin sapin, cassava cake, and maja blanca. It was clear that corners were cut in all of them which is a shame because they show such promise. The sapin sapin was muted in color — very pale purple, very light orange. The flavor was similar with faint tracings of coconut milk seemingly watered down so that the richness of the dish went missing. Where the sapin sapin lacked in color, the maja blanca made up for it. It was an unsightly near-orange color(it should be a pale yellow) and lacked the lovely bits of corn that it’s known for. The coconut toppings were also quite measly. Lastly, the cassava cake. Looked promising but was a total disappointment. The bottom inch and a half of cake was gritty and mealy while the top inch and a half was stretchy — a sign that the mixture had been sitting idle for too long. I suppose you get what you pay for? Shame though. I came here when they first opened and thought their offerings were pretty good. I hope they can get back to that — this cutting corners thing is not good business.

After doing groceries at seafood city and hitting up valerio’s for some pan de sal, you gotta go next door to filipino desserts plus for your kananins(filipino desserts that are rice based, so like rice cakes)!!! i have to stop by this place to get me some cuchinta!!! I basically love anything from this place, no kidding~ they have a variety plate for like 5 bucks that comes with puto, cuchinta, and various rice cakes which, sorry, but i do not know the exact names of all of them! my favorite is their pichi-pichi, which is basically rice cakes covered in coconut flakes and eaten with their homemade sugar mix! YUM! my dad likes their bibingka and the rice cake that has a brown sweet sauce on top, i think its called malagkit. soooo if you need fresh filipino desserts, come here, not only do they taste good, they are decently priced, and they also sell garlic peanuts, and chicharon!!! oh yea, the service is pretty friendly, there was this cashier guy, and he was handing my dad back some change, and as a joke, he handed my dad a large golden coin, and it was pretty funny, especiallly if you have a filipino dad! lol

3 stars for nice new building, good location, clean looking. I tried the sampler, which includes the puto, kutchinta(sp?), sapin sapin, and some other things. They were ok– hell to many they may consider it «good», but that is only if you haven’t tried Gold Tray Manila in ghetto area San Jose. Gold Tray Manila is the standard of which I, and many Filipinos put against other puto, kutchina, sapin sapin, type of dessert items. It’s hard to describe in words, you just have to taste the two. It’s not that I didn’t enjoy it, it’s just I’ve had better. So for now Gold Tray Manila you are still on top.

mmmm… I finally tried their turon!!! @ only .60cents each, it’s a deal! This delectable fried banana with jackfruit dessert was perfectly fried with the right amount of crisp & sweetness… so delicious! The pastilles are what I crave. It’s a sweet little treat made from condensed milk and other goodies. You get a bunch of them in a little container for $ 5. The puto is light and fluffy. The buko pandan(coconut flavored green agar agar pudding w/young coconut inside) is refreshing! It was sooo stinkin’ hot out today, finally, just as summer’s ending, and it was the perfect dessert to have after dinner. They also have pancit palabok, diniguan, ginitaan, sisig(ok, I may be killing the spelling of these Filipino foods, but I hope you still get it). There are so many that I know of, but don’t know/remember the names. Why not just try them all? LOL. Ryan, the owner, also entertained us by shredding a real coconut on the front counter w/his new nifty machine… yes, they use fresh coconut on everything! It’s so conveniently located off the freeway and amongst all the other Asian foods, predominantly Filipino. I’ve been lucky, so far, finding parking right up front, but the weekends can get busy so watch out for crazy drivers and horrible parkers.
