I ate Beef stew Tendon noodle this morning. However, it was not good as I expected. Beef was still tough and soup was tasteless.

This place looks depressing. I miss the old days when the noodle were cheap(about $ 3.50 a bowl) and tasty, but now, the soup taste worse and there are very few people eating here, the server just dump the drink on your table without saying anything, the cashier would give you a bad look when you pay. I forgot to pack the rest of the food, so that I could have given them to the homeless outside the restaurant. No more TK Noodle again.

Good value and just past the threshold of cheap eats. The tables and chairs are clean, but the rest of the establishment looks dirty. As I ate the delicious duck curry noodle soup, I tried not to think what the kitchen could possibly look like. My daughters really enjoyed their house fried rice and egg rolls. The older couple that runs the place were kind of grumpy acting, they need more help waiters/waitresses. Overall, not a bad place to eat if you’re downtown in SJ.

If i could give this place zero stars for my recent visit here this past Sunday I would… My mom, fiancé, and I ate here for a late lunch this past Sunday. I’ve been a frequent Tung Kee fan for years since my middle school years and I’m now almost 30. I know they’ve always had horrible service, but the noodle soups have always been my comfort food so I continue to frequent this restaurant. This bad review is for the stomach flu/food poisoning that I’ve contracted from this recent visit and the beyond horrible service from the female front desk person who tried to justify how I got it. Anyhow, I’m pretty sure I got it from the Pink mixed drink with the pink beans. I’m not sure what they’re necessarily called. I get it all the time, however I knew they were not made right before they served it to us. As soon as we put our order in for them, they immediately gave it to us. The pink little beans/balls were blown up 3−4x the size they usually are when I order this drink(meaning they were soaking most likely longer then they usually do) and not made fresh. I ate about half of this drink because it was 2:30pm and I was hungry and our soup wasn’t yet served. About ½ way thru this drink, I noticed that the coconut milk used in the drink as well must not have been fresh as I then noticed there was thick curdled pieces of the milk and this is when I immediately stopped drinking it. I’m not the type of customer to be rude and complain, although I should have. Plus, our soup came by then. To add to our horrible customer service, my mom loves extra cilantro so she asks the gentleman bringing our soup for extra. He immediately walked away without saying a word. The lady at the counter about 10 feet away in a thick vietnamese accent yells, «WHATYOUNEED? HENOUNDERSTAND!» So my mom again asks her for some more cilantro. I swear, the horrible service never ceases to amaze me at Tung Kee sometimes. Anyways, my mom goes to pay for our tab, this is where she tells the same lady who yells at us from the counter that she doesn’t want to pay for our 2 spoiled Pink drinks. This lady tells us that she made them fresh this morning. She proceeds to take out a spoon and scoop out the«fresh» coconut milk and tries to force my mom to try this coconut milk because«it’s not spoiled i’m telling you it’s not spoiled» she insists. My mom keeps telling her she’s not going to pay for it. Then this lady tells her she’ll knock of 25 cents. Mind you, my mom only had 2 sips of her drink, she did not TOUCH it. I had about barely ½ of it. My mom is upset at this point, and keeps demanding to take off the 2 drinks we did not like. Then this lady finally admits that she made the drinks yesterday. How DARE you serve those to us. I’m writing this review 4 days later and I’ve had diarrhe, stomach upset, and pain. SIGH. Will probably never be going back to this Tung kee ever again.

Please note, this restaurant will sell old coconut milk drinks. Make sure when you order their drinks, it is fresh. And not full of curds. We got diarrhea right after leaving the restaurant today, the store manager refused to return our money today at exactly 3:30 pm. I am planning on filing a claim with FDA.

I’ve been going to this place since I was a little kid and I have never grown tired of it! I always get a #1 and it’s delicious! I must admit that the restaurant is pretty dirty and has looked the same since ive been coming as a child. If they were able to clean up a bit that would make a huge difference! But this place is still one of my favorite places to eat. Its also very cheap which is a plus. I love it :)

The coconut water literally tasted like water and sugar. Every interaction with the staff resulted in a grunt. I wanted extra lemon but was afraid to ask. I ordered a small soup, was given a large and still charged… even though it was the waiter’s mistake. Do yourself a favor, spend your money somewhere else.

I used to go here as a student at SJSU because the food is cheap and service is fast. The food is okay, nothing special. You basically get what you pay for, so don’t expect a lot for 8 dollars.

Good taste and large portions for a pretty decent price. My Chinese grandpa took me here and I’m definitely going to bring by college friends back.

At first I thought it was good customer service. Then at the end of my meal. They had the audacity to charge me more than what I ordered. Instead of rectify the mistake. They claimed that I was given a special, nothing special about what I ordered. They’re quite sneaky. I will not go back again. That experience of them charging me more left a bad taste in my mouth.

I’m only giving this a four stars because I seriously go here like twice a week at least… so they should know me by now. If you want something quick, cheap, and hot, this is the place for you. Lately I’ve been getting #1 on their menu which is their combination rice stick noodle soup. Combo meaning it has beef balls, pork, chicken, and shrimp. Add a ton of sriracha and that’s all you really need! Or if you don’t want sriracha, they have either hoisin sauce, spicy chili, jalapenos, or garlic to add on if you’d like. The noodle soups are $ 7.25ish for a large and $ 6.75 for a small bowl. If you don’t want noodle soup, they have other things on the menu like rice plates, smoothies, chow fun, pad thai, etc. I’ve only tried their pan fried noodles, combo rice plate, and beef stew noodle soup here and all are pretty good. Just a reminder that this place is CASH only. But I’ve actually seen them take card sometimes… I guess when they have no choice and the person didn’t know about their cash only policy? Of all the times I’ve been here, I’ve only seen it super busy only once. They have about 3 people working all the time, so you sometimes see customers getting impatient with their orders. I haven’t really had a problem with that because I totally understand they’re busy. You pay at the register. Just remember your table number. This way you don’t have to wait in your seat to flag down a waiter, especially if you’re in a rush! :)

I have been eating at Tung Kee noodle houses for 30 years. Various owners and locations, but the menu is the same and the quality is consistently good. Price is a great value for the food you get. I am getting hungry just reading the other reviews. Not much ambiance in any of them, but great food and always a great staff.

At $ 6 a bowl, it’s easy to see why this place is a favorite of SJSU students. Hot, fast, and cheap is the game here — taste … Not so much. I got #2, beef sate rice stick noodle with peanut. While I was impressed by the fact that it came out a minute after ordering, the thin, flavorless beef, overcooked noodles, and the absolute absence of flavor in the soup was kinda sad. I almost never add salt to soups, but this time I was compelled to add a dash of soy sauce and sriracha to salvage it. They do have a lot of stuff on their menu and it’s all pretty cheap, so if that’s what you’re looking for, by all means come here. They definitely hook it up. — Sweet: Cheap and fast Bitter: mediocre food, dirty utensils(give em a wipe!)

If you want that QUICK Chinese food then slide through for that #21 Combination chowfun. For $ 8 it’s pretty complete with the chowfun, some shrimp, some chicken, peas/veggies and the flavoring is mediocre. Or… if you feeling that crispy pan fried noodle, then this is your stop to satisfy that cravin! That’s what i usually get, but there’s a good variety of different plates. oh. its CASH only, came here a couple times with no cash and yeah… ended up eating lee’s sandwiches next door.

TLDR; nostalgic about daikon. would come back because it’s a dollar saver. Would solely come back just for their daikon, which is some type of rice cake dipped in egg and then stir fried. Served with some cilantro garnish and a bitter sweet soy sauce dip. I would guess vinegar and soy sauce mix. I grew up eating this dish at another Tung Kee’s in the Bay which is now closed, so part of the x-factor of coming here is for nostalgia. My go-to at vietnamese noodle restaurants is any variety of beef noodle soup. In stead of getting the regular beef soup which is served with beef cubes, I got their purportedly spicy beef noodle soup. The beef is sliced as opposed to cubes and tastes lean, but the disappointing element is that the soup does not taste spicy! My deductions just come from the lack of hotness/spiciness in the soup. I didn’t run to my cup of tea because of singe of the spice but because of the MSG content! I would venture to try a different dish next time. Atmosphere is no-frills, but the point is to go eat well and cheap.

We just stopped by here since my dad wanted noodles rather than a sandwich. The service was pretty quick but this place can use a good clean up. I was swatting flies away from me half the time. It was interesting when one of the waiters answered us in Cantonese when we were deciding what we wanted. That made things easier for my dad since English isn’t his forte. He had a noodle soup with thick white noodles and egg noodles too. There was an assortment of meats with 2 pieces of shrimp. The soup was pretty good(from the spoon full that I stole from him). I just got a fresh squeezed orange juice since I always hate doing it myself(and it’s very different from regular store bought orange juice). The waiter was really nice and gave me light ice without charging me extra(even though I was expecting it). The juice was really refreshing but a little bit bland. A few pinches of sugar would’ve spruced it right now. All in all, decent noodles although the bowl was a little small. Not a filling meal but a good snack.

Wow, probably one of the worst noodle house experience I’ve ever had. It’s so bad that I’m not even mad about it and simply find it hilarious. I ordered the beef meatball noodle soup(#9) and a regular milk tea. They looked alright when they first came but man, the taste was horrible! Every ingredient was of the lowest quality. The noodles were tough, rubbery, and tasted fake. I love egg noodles but these were gross. The beef meatballs were obviously fake and tasted plastic. There was a thick layer of oil on the surface of the broth and the only veggies were the sprinkled cilantro at the top. The«milk tea» was made from mixing some pre-made sketchy looking liquids from the fridge(or maybe it was just the lady who mixed it that made it sketchy). Either way, the tapioca balls were super mushy and tasted funny. Yeah… not gonna finish that. The picture actually makes everything look 10x better. Lastly, the payment process. Another one of those Asian businesses that tries to avoid tax but I didn’t have cash on me. I had to say my tip out loud. The lady mentally added up the numbers, punched the total into the machine, and then opened up the register to transfer the tip amount into a separate tip jar. Pretty bizarre way of making a simple transaction =/

Oh TK, what can I say about you??? Well first off, this place isn’t really a place that you go to for amazing food. It is probably the best hangover or lazy day spot to grab some food. It is pretty cheap and you get quick service. Don’t be put off when the server puts the menus down on the table and ask you if you are ready to order. It’s strange at first, but when you have gone to as many Vietnamese noodle joints as I have, then you wont be phased by this scenario. I had a head splitting headache on this occasion and it was raining outside so I really needed something that was full of broth, beef, and was hearty. I ended up ordering the Mi Bo Kho, which is a Vietnamese beef stew with egg noodles in it. This hit just the spot. It was a little greasy and bland, but I put some chili sauce in it and I was ready to chow down. When you come here, don’t expect much. Just expect to pay a little for a lot of food.
