I had a really nice employee help me. I think his name was Tanner. I was looking for hamster stuff because I was planning on buying a hamster as my first pet. It was difficult to find any employee at Petco, but Tanner was able to help me. He gave his preference on which cage is spacious for a hamster and told me all the information on expanding the cage if needed. He showed me where to get everything such as bedding and food. When it came time to picking out the hamster, he allowed us to pet him as he held him outside of his cage. Tanner described everything I needed to know as a new hamster pet owner. He was very informative in responding to my questions on having a new hamster. Thanks, Tanner!

I’ve been to this store twice for my 4 pound dog to get his nails clipped I usually go to petsmart on curtner they are awesome I love that place.
Just walking into this store makes me nervous but it’s the closest to my home.
The last time I came I spoke to the manager because I disliked the way my dog was being pulled by his little legs and the lady who helped us was totally rude to us since the beginning. She was just super frustrated at the fact that my dog was shaking and scared as most dogs usually are when they go for anything there.
My point is I hate this place and do not recommend this place to anybody!!!
The manager and the staff from the grooming salon are unprofessional especially the girls!
Off the top of my head one of the girls who has been rough with my dog is Alma.
I usually give good reviews but I wanted to see if maybe after talking to the manager the next time I came in it would be better but I was wrong.

Ive been taking my dobbie for a year now to get groomed and i am so happy with the results and their customer service. the couple of times i first took my dobbie i was about 7 –8 months pregnant. they were always so nice and helpful with my 15−20lb pup. and they are always nice to me as well. they always give me advice on how to improve any skin problems they might have detected on my dog if he has anything like that which is always very helpful. I just took my dobbie again yesterday who is now about 100lbs or maybe more ??? and they also helped me walk him out to my car since i had my other 8lb chihuahua to carry. Thanks everyone at Petco for caring fo our pet family members!

15 $ for nail trimming plus buffering

My cat had fleas, so I decided to get the advantage spray-​on treatment. I called ahead, and the employee who helped me found me a bottle that was 25% off! Unfortunately, she didn’t seem all that knowledgeable about fleas or cats in general, so minus 1 star. Otherwise, it was great.

We brought our 3 dogs here to get groomed while in town visiting family. Everything was great when dropping them off and picked them up. The hair cut was great on our dog with longer hair and we didn’t notice anything majorly wrong. However, after the grooming, I noticed that she was scratching a lot more than usual. I thought that maybe it’s because she’s uncomfortable with her new hair cut. She continued to scratch consistently the following two days at which I finally decided to inspect her skin. I found flees! She was the only dog out of our three to have flees because she was the only one with hair long enough to accommodate them. I don’t think I will bring any of my dogs here again when I’m in town. Very frustrated that she came home with flees that could infest our other dogs as well as our home.

Hey guys. So I first brought my baby to this Petco because he was looking pretty shaggy. On recommendation I went to Stephanie and, let me tell you, she did an amazing job. My dog, Rufus, is really skittish around new people. But, as I watched through the observation window, I saw that he was calm and didn’t once try to nip at her. When he was finished his coat looked sleek and clean, his nails were bossed, and she even gave us some treats to award him for being a good boy. Since then I’ve recommended her to my whole family and we keep coming back. She’s that good! So if you are looking for someone to give your dog a new look, ask for Stephanie.

Took Nicki here for a haircut and they did such a great job! Will definitely come back :)

So I come here only because it’s right by my house, but a few days ago I came and was told the $ 1 per gallon sale was going on by this young lady. I asked if it would still be going on the next day. Her and another worker said YES! I came in the next day and was told that was not the case there was no sale. I asked if they could honor what I was told and said there was no manager in but I could leave my info and someone would call me… over a week later no call and when I tired to call asked for manager and got hung up on each time!!! I won’t be spending my money here again. I will go to Petsmart on Curtner. The only helpful person there was this young man named Ezequiel, thanks for the help you were able to offer. Anyways be warned. PS I normally don’t give bad reviews so…

DONT GO HERE FOR GROOMING!!! EVER!!! BAD SERVICE BAD GROOMERS! HURT PETS!!!
Today i brought my dog in to get a bath service and the lady who was in the front desk was ignoring us to talk to victor the manager which didnt answer our questions, well anyways we were in the store while my dog was getting her service they took her out to where they cut her nails at this point i could see what they were doing well they were being rough with her they were pulling on her leg and while she was cutting her nails my dog almost fell of the table keep in mind that they are tied by their neck while on a high table also while the groomer cut her nails the other one would pat my dog on the head very roughly it botherd me so i tried to go in but they had tooken her in the back room and i could hear my poor baby crying befor she was given to me another dog was handed to its owner the dog was sad and it peed itself the rolled all over his urine the groomer then brought it back to the back and befor the door closed we herd her say «f***king idot got piss over it self» my dog seems to be very sad now i regret bring her in.

I have been bringing my chorkie to Victor the grooming salon manager for some time. He always takes the absolute best care of my baby girl. She had a terrible experience at another groomer and was scared to death of returning. When I started bringing her to Victor at first she was not having it. Putting on the brakes the second she realized where we were. Can you imagine a full grown adult struggling with a 9 pound dog? Comedy ensued. But the more we went the more relaxed she became and now she even looks forward to her pampering days. He even pointed out to me she had a few hot spots I didn’t realize she had. He suggested a few items including a food change and she was good as new.
The service I’ve received has been nothing but amazing. They are quick, courteous, respectful and love what they do. I am a forever client of this salon. Thank you Victor and the entire grooming salon staff for your amazing treatment of my fur child.

I hate to give a bad review… This is for the grooming department. I never take my dogs to any groomers because I’m scare they might hurt them. Our pet can’t talk so they can’t tell us what’s wrong. I normally groom them myself but my maltipoo is a bit tough for me because she move around that’s why I decided to leave it to the professional. We took her here twice, first time was fine. She came home unhappy but we assumed she was mad at us for leaving her there for 4 hours. Second time, which is today. ********Horrible incident that I have to share, boyfriend and I came to pick her up, we went inside but there was no one around, while a gal (the groomer) standing outside talking with a friend that looks like a visitor. She saw us waiting inside but ignored us. Then she finally came in and told us to go pay while she bring out molly (my maltipoo). Molly came out with no energy on her face, sad and depressed. The groomer went back to chatting with her friend. Who cares, I picked up molly and we decided to walk around to buy her some treats. Just minutes later my boyfriend yelled out «there’s blood all over your shirt!!!» I looked down and freaked out. There was a deep cut on Molly’s leg (that looks like she got poked by a sharp scissor blade). Really deep it won’t stop bleeding. we walked back to the groomer and had to interrupted her convo with her friend. We questioned and she seemed like she had no idea what’s going on. She said «let me take her back to invest» and brought molly to the back. we waited at the front desk, at this point I couldn’t take it anymore. Invest what?! A cut? I just want molly back. So I walked back where I saw her and another girl just discussing how to handle the situation instead of caring to see what’s wrong with molly! They told me I’m not allow back there! Well I just want my dog back! ***long story short*** they obviously don’t give a f**. The manager which is a young man came out and said «it might not be from the scissor that cut her» like as if I cut my own dog to cause a drama! I got angry and said «then what? We never left the building, where do u think she got the cut?» And he said «the clipper, you’ll be surprise what clipper can do» wtttf?! They offered a spray to help her bleeding because it wouldn’t stop bleeding. And have the need to say «don’t worry about paying». Serisouly? Paying? You’re lucky I didn’t ask for a $ 65 refund or sue you! Idiots. Bunch of young idiots running this place. Boyfriend and I aren’t the type to cause a scene. And the cut was on her leg… It will heal. Heart broken, we just took her home and never again step foot in this place. People make mistakes and accident happens. I understand. but they have no better way to handle this situation. Young staff members who can’t take their job serious!

Specifically for the grooming department, I honestly didn’t think they did a bad job. Wasn’t the best. The attitudes of the ‘groomers’ werent very inviting and they werent very informative with my questions as it was my puppy’s first time. She seemed as if she didnt really enjoy working with the dogs. Since it was my dogs first time i asked what ways they used to calm a dogs nerves/​make them feel comfortable and all she could give me was a ‘um every dogs different’. I feel as if they didnt do much to try.

The general pet store has great workers. I am reviewing the pet grooming side:
The young lady at the counter was slow. She spoke slow, she moved slow, and she think slow. She did not acknowledge me while picking up a phone call in front of me. After she hung up her brain decided to take a few minutes break before she looked up and ask if I needed help. While waiting for her I glanced at the groomers tending to the dogs. They were a bit rough and it seemed like they did not enjoy grooming the dogs. This reflects on the manager which seemed stressed out as if he was trying to turnover dogs as fast as he could. Avoid and save your money here at all cost. There are plenty of pet groomers in San Jose that will treat your companion it deserves as well as better pricing.

I frequent here to buy my crickets for my bearded dragon there’s only two employees who are helpful here, Santana and the guy with the gauges. The other employees here are rude and make you feel like they don’t want to help. One in particular Carina or Korina brought out 5 small crickets totaling 76 cents. She then asked if I paid for them which I responded «yes». She gave me a look of «yeah right» to which I pointed to the girl who rang me up and then I showed her my receipt. After she «inspected» it she said «ok» «I’m just making sure» I understand the importance of making sure an item is purchased but for 76 Fin cents and to investigate the receipt the way she did is slightly annoying. If it wasn’t for the two gentleman mentioned above I’d probably give it 1 star.

This pet store is a favorite of mine. The staff is friendly and very educated regarding the types of pets this store sells. There are lots varieties of animals including many types of fish, birds, lizards, guinea pigs and more available. It seems to have everything you may need for your pet here. The prices are pretty reasonable here as it is a franchise in comparison to those family run pet stores that although may have more exotic types of animals in stock, have a tendency to be overpriced. Also, Petco guarantees its animals and products. Also, it often helps out the local shelters by having their cats available for adoption. My boyfriend and I have bought most of our freshwater fish from there for our aquarium including mollies, platties, tetras, and barbs. They have been doing very well.

–reasonable prices and sales
–guarantees its animals and products
–helps local shelters and animal organizations
–the Petco store in general has an e-​newsletter (info. includes weekly ads, events, and deals)
Cons:
–NOTHING!

I hate to give this place a bad review. The only reason why I stuck around is because
1) the location is VERY convenient for me and
2) they USED to have very friendly store staff members that gave time to greet you, truly helped you out with products and items if you weren’t too sure what to purchase and give you advice if asked. I no longer see any of these people there.
The reasons for my low star rating:
1) on one of the occasions that I brought my dog in, she usually gets a treat at the cashier register area. The girl who was running the cashier that day asked if my dog can have a treat. I said yes, she starts throwing treats on the floor (ugh, mind you how dirty the floors might be with dogs accidental urine and feces that may have happend on that spot where the treats landed) I don’t know why I didn’t think of it at the moment, maybe because I was busy paying. But I don’t appreciate you throwing food onto what may be dirty floors. Past cashiers always handed it to her.
2) I bought a «happy birthday» biscuit for my girl. And there were maggots found on the back of the bone shaped biscuit after opening the unopened box. How’s that even possible?
3) I went around the snack/​treat bar and started putting varieties of snacks in the plastic bag, I came across one set of treat and there were maggots in there! I went and informed the cashier, all he simply did was remove the scooper with one maggot and put the snacks back in. I told him there was more in the snacks. Yes he apologized. I asked how often do they change them and he said every end of the week. And I even suggested they put lids on all the treats. He said he’d inform the manager… I don’t know if he really will, or if they threw out and cleaned out the treat bins… But that’s disgusting and that just made me never want to return to this location.
If you care about what your babies eat, be careful with this location.

We worked with Victor, and he is amazing! Called on a Saturday afternoon, made an appointment for Monday morning and was greeted on time! First timers here and gave us 25% off!
My dog is a little hyper and full of energy so she can be a handful and Victor was amazing with her. She came out so clean, and cut perfectly. Only complaint I got from Molly was the fact that she became a little crazy the minute she saw me walk through the door-​oops!
Will be back here!

I personally find this location convenient, has ample parking available, and a staff that may not always be present when you need them, but are at least friendly when you spot one.
I really dislike that when you walk in here, you have an empty feeling about the entire location and I don’t know, it just feels like there’s no personality here.
But hey, there are worst places out there.

I’ve had a pretty bad experience here before… Me and my boyfriend were checking out the hamster/​mice section and the white mice must’ve been hungry or the workers must of starved them because they were eating each other. I would go into detail but I just ugh can’t. It was horrible I was so sad. I almost cried cus I can’t imagine being so hungry that I would go eat one of my own.
And when I told the worker she chuckled and said oh they’re hungry. And I’m like WELL YEAH BITCH OF COURSE THEY ARE.
All I can say is they’re really bad with maintenance and I’m not sure how I would feel about leaving my dog with them ever.
But note this was a year ago, I never came back again but I’m not sure how they are now.
Better off going to the Petco near oakridge or petsmart at the plant.
