I’ve been here many times before for phở and drinks and they were great. However, just the other day when I was on a time crunch so I «tried» to stop by for a quick lunch with a friend. It says they open at 9 and I came at 11, they were closed… Are you kidding me? My friend and I ended up going back to class starving.

Do you ever find yourself craving homemade banh xeo. only for your mom to say she’s not making banh xeo but to go buy it at some restaurant? Do you refuse bc restaurants always make it too oily for your liking? If so, join the club, my friends! Whining and pouting didn’t change my mom’s mind(her excuse: she was tired from holiday entertaining), but she took me here upon a family friend’s recommendation. So glad we came. the banh xeo is delicious! It’s not oily, you’re allowed to pick 2 – 3 ingredients to put in it, and it’s so big that it fills me up! Yum.

Honestly, this is probably blandest phở broth I’ve ever tasted. The only good thing is that they give you reasonable portions of noodles but not so much meat. It is so not worth it. Not only is it bland but something about it tastes powdery. I felt like I had to put a ton of sauce in it in order for it to taste better but it still didn’t taste any better. My parents that love eating phở said that the broth was really tasteless and also didn’t like this place. Also, it lacked parking space and was in a shadier area. Most of the customers throughout the day are mostly high schoolers. Nothing special about this place. I wouldn’t want to eat here again.

Finally there is a best Phở around this area. The broth is excellent for both chicken and beef… service is nice. The rare beef noodle soup is soooo tender. There two different kinds of noodle for beef noodle soup here. I’m glad I found this place has that kind of noodle I love. Will back again for sure ^^.

Finally got the chance to eat here and I live literally down the street! (Scroll down to the 4th paragraph to review my input on the food) I’ve kept my eye on this place for a while since they were remodeling. This place use to be a pearl/boba drink place called Q cup which failed miserably after different owners and remodeling. It has been for sometime after 2006. I assume it’s just a bad location considering the fact a lot of home less people like to sleep and pan handle there. Anyways, what really caught my attention was their restaurant name Phở Ngon. I am Vietnamese but sadly I don’t consider myself fluent, so hopefully I’m interpreting this correctly, it means good phở. Okay so I gave this place a try with my bf when we were both indecisive. I got to say I’m impressed with the way the remodeled the whole place. It looks nothing like how q cup used to be ! There were a few LCD screens mounted on the walls playing college football and not the typical Paris by night. Star for being different and for the nice place setting! FOOD: I don’t really bother with phở much because I’m not a great fan so I got the Bun Bo Hue. It had the traditional flavors I expected, the right amount of chili oil and tasty beef broth. overall it was good nothing too impressive, but good. The beef is a little chewy but that’s normal in Bun Bo Hue. To be honest I’m a big fan of bun Bo hue at Ca Mau so I’m just comparing between the two and Ca Mau’s meat texture is exactly the way I like it, more soft and fattier. Here, there’s isn’t much I really want to complain or compliment about just know that there bun Bo hue is decent . My bf ordered their Phở here, he said it was decent as well, I mean phở broth isn’t that complicated to make. Except when it comes to phở meat; the size, texture, color, thickness has to matter! The color was on point beige/taupe, texture not too chewy, the slices were thinly cut, but I find the size oddly small. The length is about an inch and width is about half an inch. I prefer taste over presentation but this was kind of uncommon in most phở places. Lol. Eat it anyways. My bf also ordered egg rolls for appetizers that came out last(a no-no for bad timing). They’re medium sized egg rolls that weren’t too great served with chili fish sauce and no lettuce to wrap(apparently the guy with the older review did!). It could’ve been better, but neh. I guess I can say this place isn’t too bad. I’ll probably be back in 2 – 3 months although I live down the street.

After working a long day at the office the idea of going home and warming up leftovers just didn’t appeal to me. I coaxed one of my coworkers to join me in getting some Phô from Com Tam Tien Huong close by. Upon arriving at Com Tam we were disappointed to see that they had moved to another location in East San Jose. So I quickly whipped out my phone and Unilocaled«Phô» and this place popped up. I was a little hesitant to try it because it only had 6, inconsistent, reviews –because it was fairly new– but I felt like pushing my luck. Here are my findings: Eggrolls– Started out our meal with Fried Eggrolls and they came out with all the trimmings(i.e., Lettuce, Mint, Noodles, Pickled Veggies & Dipping Sauce). I’ve never eaten Fried Eggrolls in this manner before. Luckily my coworker knew just what to do. We rolled them up in the lettuce with a little bit of everything else thrown in and it was quite tasty. The Eggrolls themselves were just OK but in conjunction with all the accouterments it was very good. 4* Phô– I ordered the Phô Dâc Biêt #A which basically came with everything but the kitchen sink. The broth by itself was very tasty and you didn’t need to add anything extra, but what fun is that? They have a nice selection of Phô condiments(e.g., Hoisin, chili’s, Siracha, etc.) to help you boost the flavor and add the appropriate amount of heat. They were generous with the meat and the noodles were pretty standard. I’m not sure how anyone could say they don’t give you enough to eat; I was stuffed. 4* Service– The new owners are very sweet and are very attentive to your needs. They were quick to bring us out our food and got my coworker some weird special requests he had(I can’t take him anywhere). The place is decorated nicely and everything felt very clean. 4.5* I’m really glad we came here. The food and service were great and I look forward to coming back. Sometimes you need to Cowboy/girl up and take a chance(I’m looking at you Eric W). As I like to say, «Yelpus Ergo Sum». I Unilocal therefore I am.

Good broth, but really small portions. Even the large bowl barely had any tendons or tripe. The bowls don’t have much beef and they even skimp out on stuff like onions and cilantro. However I love homemade phở, and the broth totally reminds me of that. You don’t get the typical MSG thirst after eating here. It’s a little bland, but that’s not always a bad thing as you can flavor it with whatever condiments you desire. Im big on basil and hoisin sauce, so you already know what I hit it with! haha They people who work here are pretty nice and the nem nuong seemed to be really popular! It looked great, and alot of people ordered it. Be aware. really crappy parking. The spaces are super tiny and there are barely any places to park!

We lived nearby and saw another phở place pop up. I took my son to this place on a weekday shortly after 1PM and there was only one customer. First impression is the place is nice and new, renovated. A few table was not clean yet. We seated at the booth and I ordered the large Phở chin gan bo vien(well done beef, tendon and beef ball). The noodle came out quickly and I feed it to my son first. Once I got to eat it the soup is still nice and hot. The Phở broth is clear with good aroma. Overall the large bowl can feed 2 if you a small eater. Everything tasted good however the well done beef is a bit tough, maybe it’s over cooked. However they have other good Vietnamese dishes like Bun Bo Hue, Bun Rieu Oc, Mien Ga etc. Their phở has exotic meat like ox tail, beef tongue etc. which I don’t really care of. Overall, I hope they do well since they just took over Q-Cup and it’s much closer to my house. Their price is a bit higher than Phở Y, but not too high that I wouldn’t come back.

This place needs to reconsider re-naming the restaurant to Phở Bland. Parents took us here to try because(being asians), they feel the need to try every new phở restaurant in town. The interior décor is quite modern, however looks unfinished. It’s quite small since it used to be a Q-cup. We decided to try different plates to see what’s good, what’s not. We ended up order a Phở Dac Biet A, Bun Bo Hue, and Bun Rieu Oc. Let me tell you, when they brought our food out, there was no aroma, no *whif mmmm makes your tummy grumble* smell. My bf’s bun rieu oc looked like it was served with water. And let me say, he is not a picky person, so when he says it’s bad, means it’s bad! My dad didn’t like the phở because it was very bland as well. Nothing special. As for the bun bo hue, my brother said it was by far the worst he ever had. He poured in like 2 tablespoons of nuoc mam(fish sauce) and it still doesn’t taste any better. He also complained that he meat was overly chewy and dry like a piece of wood. Definitely would not come back to this place for many reasons. 1. poor food 2. shady area 3. really small, limited parking. 4. overpriced food.

I came to San Jose from Orange County on a business trip so I know what good phở tastes like. I had the phở Dac Biet A and goi cuon and nem nuong. First of all, the phở tastes really good, the soup was well flavored and sweet and did not taste like they use a lot of MSG which is good. Thre was also a lot of meat in my phở. The nem nuong was good and tasted like BRodard in SoCal! Really good. I’ll be back again to try some more
