Formerly VOGUECAFE, which briefly took over San Jose’s COURTYARDCAFE, is now called QUYNHHUONG(Restaurant & Bar) which is a new addition to the community of Quan Nhaus that we currently have in SJ. Quynh Huong opened with noticeable physical changes to the layout of their floor plan with newly added mini-booths against 3 of the main walls(you know, the ones that have the short tables, where anyone, regardless of their height, would be comfy when pouring or distributing them filled up shot glasses to the other drinkers at the table, while in the kneeling position). The 4th wall(to your LEFT as you enter) is where the stage that holds the stand, where the DJ plants his material equipment, and spins for us all night long(this happens about 2 – 3 times a week) is situated. Actually, you’re walking right into the dance floor(similar to Club Axis). If there’s people on it, then you’ll blend right it… but if no one is dancing, be prepared to turn ALL heads when you enter. The outside patio(hence the name«Courtyard» previously) remains untouched on Grand Opening Night. I hope it will be turned into an exotic get away spot simulating the open bar affect back in the days of CLUBVERTIGO. My take on the important points: Food: Impressed! We ordered the usual 1) Chicken Wings 2) Pork Intestines(Long Heo) 3) Chicken Feet ~ Everything was a hit. Service: Many fresh faces are among the hostesses, but the few that are familiar to us, have a lot of experience, so service was good. * Pet peeve of most customers is that they frown upon hostesses who(1) come to their table only towards the end when the bill is being paid(2) come to a table because they have a bottle ordered and not just beer. Entertainment: Mini-dance floor w/live DJ. Speakers & sound system has given a modest boost from previous owner. Décor: Initial curtains have been taken down, replaced by tinted glass — much better. I like the booths that have been added, giving it a more loungey and comfy effect. Overall: As with many new businesses, there is always room for improvement & I always emphasize on servicing customers as a priority. Customers can go for beer at any corner store, the dishes served at Quan Nhaus are similar and common, and Karoake is not hard to find, but if a venue has kick ass service, where customers remember their fun experiences with hostesses that do not pressure on sales, then you will have crowds coming back even if your venue is in the corner of nowhere(ex: Alo). I favor Quynh Huong because anyone who put time into making a LOGO for their Marquee, has my vote!
