I’ve been acquainted with Relationship Coaching Institute of Silicon Valley since 2003, when it was called«LifePartner Quest». By any name, Marvin Cohen’s coaching practice has been tremendously helpful in my own quest to find a life-partner — and, once I did, to help him and me learn better communication skills for a more peaceful and loving life together. Marv is a great teacher. He is intelligent, skillful, kind and yet assertive, very empathetic, and has a great sense of humor. His intelligence and background in mathematics helps him understand and speak to those with a technology background – quite a few of us in Silicon Valley, of course! Marv also draws from Buddhist thought when he advises clients. He is very good at teaching productive, non-combative ways to ask for what one wants and say no to what one doesn’t want. And Marv is very good at knowing when to sympathize and when to push, at disentangling life stories to get at the root of issues. Marv draws a strong distinction between his«coaching» and his«therapy» practices. But he is really good at tailoring his teaching to what you wish to learn. I went to him for help finding a partner, returned several years later for some very helpful couples’ coaching, and have recently found him very helpful too with issues around communication with my aging parents. I have found relationship coaching with Marv Cohen to be equal to, or deeper than, «therapy» with other psychologists. I believe that Marv usually starts new clients with in-person meetings, but I’ve been doing work over the phone with him for several years, and he is very good in that format, too.
