Rocketship Discovery Prep

I enrolled my daughter into the Rocketship program and got accepted to the location on Wooster Ave. I like to read reviews and did so about this school prior to my «attempted» visits (which I will get to) and made mental notes of the reasons why others were disappointed. In hopes of having a positive outlook on this facility, I decided to take a field trip of my own, around 9AM on a weekday and see what the outcome would be. I am familiar with the area and noticed how narrow Wooster Avenue really is so automatically I took my first note: DROP-​OFFS ARE GOING TO BE HECTIC. I drove right up to the school only find that their parking area fits about a dozen cars in it. On the day of Orientation (yesterday), I drove around for about 15 minutes to find parking and didn’t bother. I don’t have any say in how the school, once inside, holds up with their faculty, but I am not going to put myself and my daughter in this environment. God forbid there’s an emergency, it will be impossible to get in or out of that area.

This is a joke I am disappointed with this school and the stuck up staff and teachers like grace she is horrible the worst staff of them all stuck up and very rude and made it very clear to me that education is not first. parent BEWARE THIS SCHOOL IS NOT WHAT YOU THINK. If your time is not important this school will waist your time and like grace made it seem your child’s time also again uniform policy is out of control the web says one thing and staff says otherwise GET IT TOGHETHER PRINCIPAL DNT HIDE BEHIND GRACE AND CORRECT THE MISTAKES THAT ARE HAPPENING. now let’s talk about parking this school is the worst school I have ever been to as a adult and child the staff is so bad directing traffic my child and I almost got hit and all the said is you walked the wrong way instead of a apology they said I walked the wrong way how am I supposed to know no one directed me or my child until I almost got hit they direct me. what a bad way of handling this situation. BEWARE OF THE DISORIENTED STAFF AND NON CARING …

This rocketship school sucks. From the parking/​traffic to the staff. Just horrible. Very disorganized, lots of chaos before and after school. The teachers hardly interact just rude and stuck up!

We came to Rocketship almost 2 years ago. It was a big change academically for my children. They have since learned that challenges can be great and can push us to do our best. Both of my children are completely different learners. My oldest moved on to a very challenging middle school and my youngest remains at RDP. RDP has made every effort to work with our family to provide the best learning environment for our child. They have been receptive to ideas and suggestions and have also given us useful information to help our child succeed. The staff is welcoming to families and encourages participation. I am happy to see an emerging Parent Leadership Team! This is going to help the school grow in community! The teachers seem to be very enthusiastic and eager to be a part of our child’s learning. We love the «college-​bound» mentality and the gentle, but encouraging push to do their best. We look forward to the upcoming school year, as we feel that this school has potential to do great things for our children.
There is still room to grow and improve in a few areas and we think that with the team they have now, that will be achieved! Parking lot aside, the school is doing their job=teaching the children. We teach our children to never judge a book by it’s cover, it is what is on the inside that counts!

Gran escuela, sin importar la locasion. Esta escuela cuenta con un gran equipo academico y hablando por mi propia experiencia puedo decir que cumplen con lo prometido que es llevar a nuestros hijos al exito. Mi hijo esta casi dos años adelante que los niños de su edad y grado, definitivamente hay algunos contras como lo es el estacionamiento, pero una caminata a la escuela a nadie le hace daño.

if you value your time, do not go here! i repeat, do not send your kids here. this is the most awful school i have ever stepped on. the parking space is like hellish! my neice went to alma location before and boy it was a blessing compared to this place!!! i can’t describe how much i dread this place. everything sucks!

I have been living in close proximity to this school for a few months now. Every morning promptly at 8 am and sometimes at 10am also, they broadcast «Morning Meetings» over the inter-​comm loudspeakers and play a motivational pop song. I don’t have kids that attend the school, so I can’t comment as to how effective in theory these morning meetings are. But the broadcast is so piercingly loud and obnoxious that an average person can clearly hear the «noise» 2 hundred yards away (and I don’t have good hearing)! It literally hurts my ears. (It’s so loud it comes through my closed windows.) I’m concerned for the kids that go there, everyone knows how damaging loud noises can be, let alone to young tender ears. I met with the school principal (Bridgette), indicating that I didn’t appreciate this noise blaring from their outdoor speaker, indicated that in case she didn’t know they needed a Permit from the city to operate it, (the permit is required and the police chief will set the volume limit as well as duration restrictions). She said they aren’t interested in getting a permit to operate it and instead would disable the speaker outside the building… at the end of our chat when I said I was concerned for the kids, how they will be effected (their hearing) long-​term she grimaced a bit and «looked down her nose» and simply said thank you for letting me know… I am absolutely flabbergasted that an educator such as this, at a school for disadvantaged youth, with a new way to teach mentality, apparently doesn’t really care about the damage they’re causing to the kids’ hearing. On a separate note, she commented that the school is designed for 450 kids but they have over 600. Makes me wonder about so many things…
