Gourmet sandwiches at a Safeway? Who would’ve thunk it? On a recent grocery shopping trip, I passed by the deli and their sandwich menu caught my eye. I grabbed one to take to work. Their special sandwiches are $ 5.49 for a regular, $ 9.99 for large. Paninis are $ 4.99. You can also build your own sandwiches. Add chips and a drink for $ 1.50 more. I opted to get a half sandwich and side soup meal for $ 4.99. They usually have only two varieties of soups [at the soup station] but you can also choose from one of their packaged soups and have them heat it up for you. I ordered«The Pub» which had roast beef, blue cheese, caramelized onions, honey mustard and mayo on their artisan garlic split crust. It was good, TONS of meat, lots of different flavors, but I wasn’t too crazy about the blue cheese. Also, the bread was a bit TOO garlicky for me. It sorta ruined the sandwich a bit for me. I was imagining it to taste a bit more subtle, but it actually has tiny bits of garlic stuck on the top of it, which I picked off as much as I could. For soup, I had the Tortilla Soup, which was nice. Anyway, next time I will have to call in my order as the service was a bit on the slow side. But I will definitely be back to try the rest of the sandwiches. The«California Dreamin» sounds good!!!
