When I first came to San Jose Judo Academy I was an out of shape judoka who hadn’t practiced in over a year. After a few months of great training and quality judo lessons I lost 30lbs and sharpened my techniques. This judo dojo is one of the few in the area that practices 5 days a week. That combined with the quality of the training is why all of sensei My’s students do well in competition and in life. Sensei My is caring and thoughtful when it comes to her students. She is able to bring out their potential whether they’re shy or extroverted.

Évaluation du lieu : 5 San Jose, CA
My 5 year old son has been attending San Jose Judo Academy for 3 months now. He has learned enough that he has entered two tournaments and has placed 3rd and 1st place. He loves to go to this class due to the fact that it has a fun learning atmosphere. There are many small children from ages 4 – 12, but not so many that they lose the individual attention provided by the BB staff. This academy is very focused on body strength building, safety and the competitive sport of Judo. There are many other Judo schools around, but this small school loses the commercial flash and creates very competitive Judokas. Out of the schools 3 junior entries in the toughest Northern California Tournament, there were 2 gold medals. That’s a good percentage! The school offers 1 ½ hour evening classes T-F and day class on Sunday. Unlike other more commercial schools, the memberships are unlimited: Go as often as you like. Usual classes at other schools are 2 – 3 days a week and around an hour of training. So, after my son’s 3 months at this school, he has the same amount of «on the mat» training as 6 – 8 months at another school even at a low price. They have classes in the evening which suits most of our busy day time schedules. Again, this is not a flashy place. It is a clean and productive dojo with a focus on the sport. If you want your child to learn this sport for competition, this is the right school. There are no gimmicks, i.e. tournament fees, special gear fees, testing fees, party fees, contracts and others that dig in your pocket every week which make the clubs money. You pay for what your child needs and events are at cost. This club does not make money on anything you purchase. For example, belt advancement requires a new belt, and that’s what you pay for. If you want your child to go to a flashy, more expensive, trendy and less productive school that will give you child a belt advancement every few months, this place is not for you. All Judokas here earn their belts; this is not a belt giveaway like some other schools. When one advances here you have the confidence they have applied themselves with what they have been taught, and earned their advancement.
