Adorable garden oasis in the middle of the Downtown Jungle! The first time I came to Satori for an event, I almost didn’t find it. It’s tucked away in an alley by a parking lot. Talk about a random place for a tea garden. But once you walk in, you forget you’re in the middle of Downtown San Jose. The kitschy décor is part shabby chic and hipster inspired. The doll faces on the walls gave me pause when I first saw them. We had a party of 12 for a friend’s baby shower. My sister organized it and got an assortment of sandwiches, scones, fruit, cookies and pots of tea. For sandwiches we got the cucumber and cream cheese, egg salad, pear with Gorgonzola cream and arugula, and ham with English cheddar and fig butter. My fave was the pear with Gorgonzola and arugula. The sweetness of the pears and cheese worked well with the tartness of the arugula. The other sandwiches were all splendid as well, but the pear was the standout. For teas, we got an assortment of 4 varieties. I’m not a huge tea drinker so the one I gravitated to was the one more similar to coffee which was a wonderful butterscotch tea. I think I drank an entire pot all by myself, it was that delicious. After one sip of this, all others were cast aside. The scones and cookies were a lovely way to end our party. The staff was very attentive and made sure that we had plenty of cream and sugar. The timing of the food was also just right so that we were able to chat and enjoy the shower activities without being rushed. My boss and I came in on a random weekday afternoon without a reservation and were also very well taken care of. We did more of a late lunch with salad and sandwiches versus an afternoon tea. Of course, I had to have my butterscotch tea and scone.

I didn’t know clubs didn’t only play top 40 before I came here. This place is super fun. Its a great place to dance without listing to garbage lyrics. For whatever reason bad lyrics(mostly those that glorify selfish millennial values) really get to me and make it impossible to have fun even if the music is good. The djs are great. The drinks are overpriced but that’s the business I suppose. Awesome place to have fun and not feel guilty about how stupid the fun was.

Came to the Blank Club for the October edition of Club Satori. As a fan of goth/industrial/EBM/and-so-on music I’ve always wanted to go to a goth club but I don’t like going out alone and none of my friends were into the scene. So when I met a new group of people who suggested going, I was excited. I arrived with one of my friends, we got there soon after the club opened(around 9:30) and there were only a small handful of people inside. Most people didn’t start showing up until 10:30 — 11:00. While we waited for the rest of our group to show up, we each had a drink. Standard bar fare, nothing special but decent drinks. Eventually the rest of our group turned up and we decided to hit the dance floor. The music was pretty good, a little heavy on the 80s/new-wave/post-punk but I like that kind of music anyway. But if you’re looking for all EBM all the time then this probably isn’t for you, I think Death Guild in SF puts more emphasis on that. I only talked to a couple people outside the group I was with but they were nice and everyone seemed to have genuine respect for personal space. Everyone in my group except for one was a girl and you know there are all those horror stories about girls being felt up in clubs and all that. I think that’s just a facet of the goth culture though, people are generally respectful and just let you do your own thing. Bathrooms were clean enough considering it’s a club, I’ve seen worse at other places(Slim’s, DNA Lounge). Only reason I’m hesitating to give this a full five stars is because the venue is extremely small. After 11 when it started getting crowded it would get hot inside and we’d have to take a break and go outside after every 3 songs or so. I’d originally intended on staying until closing but we ended up leaving an hour early. All in all if you live in the South Bay, are into the goth scene and don’t want to make the trek to SF to go to Death Guild or one of the Cat Club’s Friday night events, Satori is a fun monthly night.

Satori isn’t the actual name of the club. The Blank Club has a goth night once a month every Saturday night I think and this is the name of it. I went there recently with a few cool goths and had a great time-:) I’m more into metal, but the music they played there was good and easy to dance to most of the time. I think that you can get in for free before 10 or 10:30p.m. If you go to their website, get on their FB page and add yourself onto the guest list to get in for free for that night. I think if you come after 10:30, it’s a $ 5.00 cover. The doors open at 9p. m The club is small and dark but cool. It’s almost too dark to see much clearly. Most people don’t start showing up until 10 or 10:30. We arrived there early and had a few drinks first. They serve PBR for $ 3.00 and a margarita costs $ 5.00. Most of the people there do wear black and most do dress up. After a few drinks I had the guts to dance in public. That’s something I NEVER do 100% sober, lol. They played some 80’s new wave like Joy Division I think, Front 242, NIN, and some other good songs. One guy that asked me to dance was a little pushy and persisted in asking me to dance after I said no. He asked again and the group I was with said, just dance so I did. He got a little too close to me on the dance floor so I moved back a little and when that didn’t do it, I had to mouth the words to the song that was playing at the time which went something like this: «No, not now». Seriously, those lyrics were playing at that time! He then got the message after I started moving back towards the people I came with. lol. So guys, when a woman starts showing little signs like that, move on! I was there to hang out, not look for guys. I had a great time and would go there again but probably not dance with anyone again who wasn’t in the group.

So while you squash every week into a day A chance for break. A pbr buzz will propel you through the night. You will dance. You will leave feeling gushy because the DJs seemed to psychically know every song you’ve ever wanted to hear at a night like this. You will feel elated. It’s not just the pbr, it’s the rushing adventure of it.

Perfectly what I thought it would be. Perfect sound levels, great people, and moderately priced drinks(at the Blank Club). As the night went on the music got better and better. Amazing time. Worth it.

I was on the guest list and the doorperson didn’t ask if I was on it and demanded $ 5. When I offered a $ 20, she didn’t even take it or offer to make change. I’m very disappointed with the staff. They need to be better trained. The place may be good if you can get in! This is not the way to run a business.

Great alternative 80s and industrial club — the DJs know their music. The Blank is a cool venue and the drinks are good. This is the only big club in San Jose that doesn’t irritate the hell out of me, haha.

I think Satori found a great home at the Blank Club. It definitely draws bigger crowds than when it was at the Savoy. I agree! Great music and dancing for those of you out there seeking an altenative to all the poppy ultra lounges in San Jose! Five Stars!!!
