Great food, especially the dosas. One downside is that random things on the menu are never in stock. Please keep the menu up to date! If you’re in the area and want some lunch though, you can’t go wrong with this place. Everything I’ve had has been delicious.

Spice Hut is going to shut down. I don’t have the full story, but to me, this is a tragedy. Spice hut in San Jose was one of the most innovative Indian restaurants of all time. And I have travelled all over the world. I am having a really hard time imagining a world without the culinary innovations of Spicehut. I am gong into mourning. Please no!

If only I hadn’t ordered ahead for my takeout, I wouldn’t have paid and accepted my order. Looks a teeny bit Shady and unhygienic. I guess you get what you pay for!

Favorite place for our work group to go for lunch. Some colleagues are Indian and they like Spice Hut as well. Spice Hut isn’t a buffet as you might think looking at the photos here. You wait in line like in a cafeteria. Both vegetarian and non-vegetarian Indian dishes, and some Chinese dishes also. Consistently very good with outstanding variety of vegetarian dishes. You can’t go wrong with the«executive thali»(not available for takeout, but you can be served at the restaurant and take the leftovers to go). The nhan is excellent at lunch time. Good for groups up to maybe 10, but probably not more. I have stopped by to get take out for dinner, and the food was still excellent, but not many people in the restaurant. Perhaps they do most of their business at lunch.

Like other reviews, terrible customer service. I ordered for pickup from this app via EAT24 and once I got to the restaurant I was told they were out of half the things we ordered. Wish it said that on the app. They also did not refund me for the price difference of what we had to end up choosing as our substitute. They did not apologize nor offer anything free of charge to compensate for their mistake. Very disappointed. Will not come back.

The food was AMAZING. And not expensive. I tried the ‘4 items’ and the egg puff. THey were delicious and the portions were incredibly generous. Will definitely be back.

And again, the food at Spice hut made me & my family so happy with Quality and Quantity. This time we tried«Fish Thali» for the 1st time and it was impressive. Do order for an extra steamed rice though, if you are a good eater. Enjoy, Godwin

I ordered Chicken biryani and it was tasteless. It was a longer waiting time, so i was expecting the food to be tasty, but they didn’t even use fresh rice. There was just one guy working and man he doesnt give a F about his customers. He will just show up in his computer to take order and walk around whistling when customers are eating/waiting for to-go. Don’t expect any welcome greet, ‘please be seated’ quote or anything. Place was clean. That’s what 2 stars was for. Not coming back again.

This place hits the sweet spots of convenience and taste, and until recently(sadly), price. It’s similar to a buffet to go – they have a dozen or so different dishes and you can pick up to 4 items(1 must be rice.) They dish up for you, and the portions are pretty generous. They have three chicken options and a couple of veggie and dessert. My favorite is the chicken makhani(butter chicken) which they usually have. Avoid the chicken curry though. The veggie dishes rotate more often. Even when you go shortly before closing they still have a decent selection. And it’s so convenient that you can just grab and go. They also have made to order dishes which I haven’t tried yet. This used to be 5 stars and the price($ 9.59 for 4 items) sealed the deal. But last time I stopped by, the combos had all gone up a whopping _50%_ with nothing extra to justify it(i.e. no addition of lamb or other meats, no option of all non-rice options). I realize that inflation happens and the price is still not way out of line with similar restaurants, but suddenly bumping it up from $ 9.59 to $ 13.99 is pretty severe, hence the deduction of two stars. I still can’t go much lower than 3 because taste, convenience and service haven’t waned.

The amount of oil in the food here makes me feel like I’m going to experience a massive cardiac arrest soon after consumption.

What makes Spice Hut different is the Take Out Buffet that gives you so much flexibility. If you love Indian food but don’t want to spend all that time cooking elaborate curries — this is a great place to pick up a dish or two. A lot of Indian restaurants have ‘all you can eat’ buffets that leave you feeling stuffed, but here you have the option of buying just a curry or two and eating it at home with your favorite breads or rice. A lot of people don’t know that Indian curries are not like Chinese food that has to be wokked fresh — or like pizza or grilled foods that lose their flavor /texture if they are kept for a while. But curries mellow with slow cooking /keeping, the spices blend and the sharp, unpleasant flavors get softened. Yes, Naans, tandoori, poories are best eaten fresh, that is why these things are made to order. This is slow food served in the fast food model! Spice Hut has a very quick and efficient system for ordering and packing food for takeout. It is also a pleasant place to eat in — I love their warm, striking colors! You can order from the menu or pick up food from the buffet. We often stop by for a masala dosa which is served crisp and hot with delicious chutneys, love their sambhar. Location is convenient, just off freeway(880), on the light rail route. Parking is easy(just drive on to the lot after the restaurant if you can’t find street parking).

Great place but this is the only place I go for Indian food. Although I order the same things every single time, chicken curry and the pathara, its treats me good every single time. My family goes here all the time since I showed it to them and would not go anywhere else. Highly recommend!

The place is good for the food. I dont like the ambience here, because it feels dark and gloomy. My Boyfriend loves the Indo-Chinese: rRied Rice and Manchurian here. I like the chicken puffs and the south indian dishes(which are pretty good).

I came here after an event nearby upon a friend’s suggestion, and also upon the friend’s suggestion, I ordered a chicken nanini. I really liked the bread, but other than that, there wasn’t much flavor. It was actually pretty bland, and I noticed the sauce they gave us about halfway through my first half sandwich. The sauce didn’t make it taste much better. There was also cheese inside, which I thought was somewhat odd. I wish there were more vegetables! They served a side… salad? with the sandwich, and I put all the lettuce into the sandwich. My meal was quite filling and not too expensive($ 6.25 including tax), although come to think of it, a sandwich for that amount of money isn’t too cheap either. Anyway, I’ll probably not be back. The interior was okay; there was plenty of seating, although it was a bit dark.

Update: brought the feyoncé here and he loved it. He is the most picky eater I have ever met and he gave this place his seal of approval so that says a lot to me about the food here. The fact that things on the menu are not always available still bugs me though. Either way, he has added this place to our line up of go-to spots and I LOVEIT!

Interesting food in a no-frills atmosphere(styrofoam containers, plastic spoons) at great prices. Since you order at the counter, it’s good for a quick lunch. Four of us shared two thalis supplemented with extra rice, chicken, and eggplant. I’m glad I came with veterans who’ve eaten here before. For the thalis(naan or rice with several small items) some of the accompaniments are set, and some you select. The guys who were working there had strong accents that I had trouble following. I was glad that one of my dining companions was able to help me out. There was a nice variety of curries, soups, etc. including some I’d never tried before: banana flowers with garbanzos and a creamy okra to name two. Nothing was super spicy-hot, but everything was well-seasoned. Not a destination restaurant but well worth a visit if you’re nearby.
