The 4-stars is based solely on the food. My husband loves their pozole and I love their lenguas tacos, which have lots of moist, tender meat. Every time I’ve eaten here, I’ve found the lenguas to have very little of the visible fat on it, which I find isn’t always the case for taco trucks and taquerias. LOVE their condiment bar, as I sure do love my stinky onions and unlimited pico de gallo and cilantro. My only criticism would be that they close way too early — but I would argue that’s their perogative. Hope to see you soon taco truck(after I’ve lowered my cholesterol a bit). For now, it’s back to rabbit food and flax seed meal. :)

I’ve had my share of tacos from taco trucks, and this one is not that great. They have a large selections of meat on the list, such as asada, carnitas, buche, lingua, cabeza, barbacoa, etc. BUT, not all of them are available. It depends if they sell out or not. The tacos are about $ 1.50 each. We ordered the asada, carnitas, and barbacoa. The asada is slightly on the dry side. It tasted a bit like beef jerky. The barbacoa was moist, but heavily salted. And the carnitas was just aweful. It’s dry like an overcooked chicken breast, and it has no taste. I do like the assortment of salsas and condiments set out on the parking lot. The truck is hidden next to the Mercado, or market.

Someone in the elevator of my building was holding a plate of tacos and they said that this truck had the best meat so I went over there and ordered a carne asada burrito for $ 4.99. There is 1 person working who takes the $$ from the guy in front of me, then takes my order and makes my burrito. He wipes his hand on a paper towel, I doubt has hands are truly washed and makes my burrito and says $ 6. I said it’s only $ 5 according to the sign and give him a $ 5 and he gives me back a dime. Their math sucks and I guess it includes an Obama tax credit. So I’m thinking that I’m gonna be feeling this burrito tonight and why the hell did I go to a freaking truck for lunch. Who do I think I am? Bourdain? The salsa bar was trays on top of water, the ice was melted so this salsa isn’t even properly refrigerated. I’m lucky that it’s a cold day, and I’m ready to throw out 1 star if I have to spend oven an hour on the can tonight. So I’m sitting in my office, I take a bite and the bottom of the burrito falls out. I grab a fork and I think«Brilliant!» I’ll just eat the inside and not the outside that he touched. The carne asada had good flavor and was tender. Solid meat. I hope I don’t have to re-review this Unilocal tonight!

Another burrito, another adventure… The Captain and Ma were quite peckish this day.(Ma Megabyte is The Captain’s Spouse, Partner in Crime, and Chief Tormentor) Captain Pie Hole suggested another thrilling exploit, by boldy delving into ethnic cuisine on that charming stretch of Race Street between West San Carlos, and The Alameda, where lesser Gringos fear to tread. What caught The Captain’s eye among the selection of taco trucks, stands, etcetera on , was this one’s location, the corner of Park and Race. It is owned by «Super Mercado Mexico», and is actually a trailer kitchen parked at the east end of the market. Wanting Ma to see this interesting enclave, little touched over the years by the ravages of developers, I chose this joint. We arrived shortly before they closed, and knowing from experience, one should avoid certain meats, such as carne asada, carnitas and machaca at this time of day, we chose lengua. This is because lengua(Beef tongue, gringos, beef tongue) is braised slowly in liquid, rather than grilled as most other meat types are, and is more likely to be juicy and tender through closing time. The grilled stuff sits in steam table inserts all day, and turns into something more akin to jerky. These, by closing time, will be dry, and tasteless. Eating them is like chewing wood lathe shavings. Ecch! With this in mind dear Pie Holers and Megabyters, if you are served these meats which match the above descriptions, around supper time, you can be fairly sure you are eating leftovers from that day’s morning and lunch services, and the offending venue in question, should not only be avoided, but Unilocaled bloody hell about. Lengua was the best choice for 5:45PM because they close at 6:00. We paid the extra buck for«Supers» because we were really hungry, and while they were being assembled, we fell upon the condiments and salsas arrayed outside, under the dining area canopy. Twas chilly so we eschewed eating there, and took them home after we had«snap cupped» each of the wide variety of salsas, limes, cilantro and what-have-you. We paid the nice man 13 bucks, and repaired rapidly home, after working our way out of the tiny lot onto Park during rush hour, which in that area, is near gridlock. That was the adventure part of the tale. I’ll let Ma tell you the rest. «Gratefully enter’n our humble domicile, „The Spam Can“,(We’unz iz trayler trash, doncha know) we broke out the TV trays, and a couple of melamine plastic plates bearin the pitchurs of Yogi and Boo Boo Bear, from our best set of dinner ware, „The Hannah Barbera All Stars Collection“. We generally use em when we have folks over fer vittles, cuz weez keeping em as an investment fer retirement. But tunnite weze sellybraytin. We also used our only two sets of matching forks and knives. We done stoled em from some fancy restaurant or other a long time ago. Caint ‘member if it was IHOP or Denny’s. Anyway Pa, I mean Captain tater hole, or wuttever he’s ‘a callin himself these days sedd, let’s not use the socks outta da laundry fer wipin up. They gived us paper nakkins here in da bag!» «Seenz this was a fancy eetin, I lit the candles stickin outta da termater cans while we ate, an…» MA! This is a review! We’re supposed to be talking about the food! I’ll take over now. AHEM! Tearing into our lovely, very large burritos, we were delighted to find the lengua was tasty, moist and tender. So far, so good. However the rice was a bit crunchy having dried out considerably, since being cooked that morning. Also the beans which had lovely flavor were slightly undercooked and were also a tad crunchy. It was gratifying to find a slice of avacado inside, but only one. We would both have preferred to have had guacamole, but they must have run out and were improvising. The sour cream, which was of good quality, was added in a quantity which one would expect at Taco Bell, not in a super mercado burrito. Which brings us to the last issue. The lengua servings in both burritos, were skimpy by comparison with other taco trucks and stands we frequent. Perhaps they only had enough for one burrito and split it between the two. Anyway, we figure we will return again around lunch time when every thing is fresh and in plentiful supply, and give them a second shot at a better score. They were certainly nice, and looking in the door at the end, I could see the kitchen trailer was squeaky clean inside, so no worries there. Anyway, it was a pretty good meal. We’re hoping for a better one. After all, this joint is really known for it’s tacos. Captain Pie Hole and Ma Megabyte… Belch! Haha yeaaaaaaaaah buddy! This place is awesome; I do admit though I was a little cautious since it is a taco truck but the food is great. They need to park this thing in front of chipolte around the corner so that chipotle will leave the area…

Dude! They have some good ass food here! 1.50 each for their soft tacos and they stack the meat ! The burrito & quesadilla is freaking awesome too! I like to split the soft tacos corn tortilla and make more. So if I get 3 I can make 6 out of them hahaha I always stock up on their salsa and they now have their gaucamole sauce too. It’s the best mexican food that I’ve had, better then most restaurants. Every Sunday I am here :) Cheers!

Give my order for 5 tacos to the gal in the truck. $ 7.50. I get my salsas and limon. Next thing I hear…‘Five tacos ready!‘ Serious. I love this place… their carne asada is not fatty and their chicken is grilled perfectly. I just wish they were open past 6pm, I would be here practically every night. TACOS!

So I have been lucky enough to piggy back my taco deprivation and eat some tacos that were originally intended for my pal. She is nice and shares. They were good, and the carne was thickly cut with just enough cilantro, onions, and salsa. TRAGICALLY, when I wanted to get some for myself, I was given the strong arm. Who doesn’t have tacos after 5PM? I tried to get my taco fix on Thursday and was given a «so sorry, all I have is tostada’s with ceviche.» Booo…I shall be back! I want my TACOS!

Flies in the fresca(many flies)…sticky glass soda bottles… flies everywhere else… i can’t even remember what i ate… but after that experience, does it really matter? I’m still looking for the next great taco truck, and this one definitely was a step down. Not-So-Happy Eating!

It is safe to say that if the tacos are from a truck they are going to be good. I don’t know why this is but I don’t ask too many questions I just apppreciate the marinated meat and slices of lime and scarf them down four at a time. The tacos at this truck are the in my top 5 all time taco places. Possibly second only to Taqueria Jalisco on King Rd. on the east side. If you consider yourself a taco afficianado as I do you need to try this place.
