Tacos al Gusto

Amazing, amazing food and service! Just like everyone else says, this place is legit. Dollar tacos that are super tasty and bomb bacon wrapped hot dogs! :)

Dollar tacos. They may be a little small, but for a college student with a budget trying to avoid the freshman fifteen, it’s perfect.
The food here is really good, and the fact that it’s very inexpensive makes it even better. There are a couple of meat choices for tacos and burritos. The lengua (tongue) is very delicious — don’t let the thought of what it actually is deprive your taste buds of something amazing. Next best is probably the carne asada, then the chicken. I wasn’t a big fan of cabeza (head), but only because there was too much oil on it for me. They also have hot dogs wrapped in bacon and cheese, but for that, I would proceed with caution (just make sure your heart is in good condition before giving this one a try). There also have other classic Mexican rice dishes.
The atmosphere is very relaxed, probably because the restaurant is in a garage. It sounds sketchy, but they do have licenses for their business. Also, the people here are very friendly and trusting. I will definitely come back.

Ok, so this is not an actual restaurant. It’s officially a hot dog cart inside of a garage, set up next to a grill where Gusto serves up his tacos/​quesadillas, and yes, bacon wrapped hot dogs. He’s got a few tables set up where you can enjoy your tacos and also sells sodas, red bulls, and housemade horchata. No alcohol. His hours vary, but generally open after 6:30pm up until as late as midnight.
You can choose from 8 different types of meat — tacos are only $ 1 each and quesadillas are $ 3 – 4 and are my favorite! Everything is made to order — I suggest telling Gusto to add grilled onions/​cheese to your tacos. He always has several homemade salsas and fresh limes/​onions/​radishes/​jalepenos and cilantro for you to top your tacos with. He serves some other items as well but I normally stick with the tacos/​quesadillas.

By Far my FAVORITE place in san jose right now. why? well mr al gusto works from his garage in the evening. how cool is that?! you cant go wrong with the tacos cause they are only a dalla each and oh hell go for the frigging bacon wrapped hotdog too cause with the fixings on it that is available… words cannot describe! lol the ambiance is very low down and down low. some nights you will see the dvd guy selling his boot legs but the prize here is the fact that service is super friendly and the meat here is perfectly seasoned (even for a dollar). remember to count your tacos. and just gotta go and check it out.

This place is right down the street from my house so I go whenever I want a good quick bite to eat. As you can see its a taco stand outside the guy’s house. Don’t let this scare you away; the guy is legit. Permits from the county and health department. The tacos are great. You can’t beat $ 1 tacos! He offers a variety of meats for the tacos, quesadillas, and sopes. He also sells hot dogs with bacon! Sounds wierd if you’ve never tried it, but they are delicious. He’s open late during the week (11PM) and even later on weekends (I’ve been there after midnight) The place gets packed on Friday’s and weekends so you know the place it good! Definetely worth checking out.
