I don’t know if they were in a hurry to close or what happened. I order four tacos and one burrito, instead I got four burritos and no tacos. The agua de horchata is pretty bomb though. We’ll see how good the food is. I’m only giving it two stars because of the service. they could use some improvement.

This was my go-to place every other Friday/Saturday night when living in SJ. I’d sit in the corner and order my usual, 5 beef tacos and a coca cola which ALWAYS hit the spot. And what I love most about this place is that their chips and salsa were always fresh, amazing and super spicy! Only downfall about this place is that it’s not in the most stunning of areas, but other than that, I highly recommend checking this place out.

Two stars because the staff was attentive and friendly but the menudo did not have hominy and wasn’t cleaned properly. I was hung over and wanted menudo. The no hominy was a first for me(I grew up eating homemade menudo) and the chorizo burrito was blah. The chorizo tasted like burnt egg and scraped from the pan. The homemade corn tortillas were delicious.

The tacos are perfectly sized and priced. Not too crazy about the non-taco items, but delicious tacos. Cash only!

Everyone knows this place for the PASTOR. That’s what got me comin here even before I moved to the East Side. I used to drive from Mountain View just to get some. Now, the place has under gone changes in ownership, so the food is slightly different, but still tastier than other places. The chimichangas! The caldito is okay. For drinks, the aguas are the powdered, fountain produced kind and um they’re so-so, so be ready to adjust your taste buds. They used to be open at one point ’til like 3 am, but now they close pretty early, like 9 or so. So call ahead!

Any mexican place I enter that doesn’t serve beer makes my blood boil into vapor. There is a mexican bar next door, but it’s the type of place I’d only go into if I had a gun pointed at my head – it smells worse than a sack full of buttholes. Moving on, as if the lack of beer wasn’t enough to send me into a teret –induced rage, the food certainly didn’t quell the apocalyptic fury. Note to all mexican establishments DONOTADDCHUNKSOFFATTOCARNEASADETOBULKUPYOURTACOS! I’d rather enter that decomposing bar next door than eat here again. «I ain’t never scared EASTSIDE!»

Sorry folks, I regret that I must take back every word I said in the review below. Since my reconciliation with tacos and mexican food, Taqueria Corona is now under new management/ownership. Tacos are NOT the same. Tortillas are hard and not made by hand. Meats are greasy and not really good. Guess its back to search for the perfect taco in SJ. :( ***********************UPDATE4−7 – 2008************************************ Lily R stamp of approval! I revisited Cornona after many many years of snobbery and foolishness. I had a falling out with Mexican food when I was younger but now I’m back in FULL effect. This is NOT to be mistaken with the TC in Japan town. This spot is in the rougher part of East SJ on White Road. I felt a little ostentatious pulling into the parking lot in my flashy german car but its alright. I am not forgetting my roots! haha. I ordered my 2 tacos ALPASTOR(Seasoned Pork) with everything!(Red salsa and onions) The Hanging Pork meat has a slice of Pineapple that gives the meat a delicious flavor. The Tortillas are made by HAND fresh. I was eying my friends quesadilla but was too stuffed to try it. Everything was perfect. I regret being stubborn and not giving this place another try years ago. I’ve definitely been missing out! When you order, the cashier will prepare a basket of chips and salsa for you to take to your table and call you when your order is ready. This is the place you take all your out of town friends who want to have authentic tacos to write home about. I personally prefer the Al Pastor meat and recommend it to everyone who eats pork.

I live in Japantown and this my favorite mexican restaurant in 95112. The meats are flavored very well and that is the key that makes everything taste very good. Ingredients are fresh and that is important for things like quacamole! I highly recommend any taco or super burrito. Any meat, you cannot go wrong. My favorite is the al pastor. My brother loves the carnitas and my dad loves it all. My husband gets the chile colorado chimichanga most of the time. The seafood is also very good, anything shrimp esp if you like spicy. The place is casual with sitdown service. THere is a condiment/salsa bar that is great. Plenty of chips and a full bar for your beers and margarita needs. It’s very reasonably priced for what you get. There are always tv’s on with spanish stations so its not quiet. But its a good place for families — kids like the train that rolls around the walls. If you are in Japantown and not in the mood for sushi, stop at this place for sure. Corner of 4th/Jackson
