Today I stepped smack into the middle of a movie scene, you know the one: it’s a party, music bumping, cool/happening people inside getting their schmooze on, I’m the guy who doesn’t belong there, I walk in, all eyes turn to me, the record needle skips, then rips, music stops, all eyes wide, all jaws agape. Yeah, it was just like that. I was in Little Saigon today visiting a potential client who has a swanky office in the new-ish Vietnam Town shopping center. After the meeting I needed to re-caffeinate. I saw a café conveniently located next door. In the usual parlance, cafes are places where food and drink can be had in a somewhat casual environment. I was in Little Saigon, so I had high hopes that perhaps I might even be able to score some Phở with my coffee in this particular café. So I walked in with high hopes, then the movie scene, there I was, a stranger in a strange land… Bottom-line, I’m a moron. Although I had never been to one, I know what a Vietnamese café is. For the uninitiated, it’s like a regular coffee shop, but the target demographic is men and it has a bit of a sports bar type of overlay if that makes sense. The drinks and foodstuffs are served by scantily clad ladies. I have absolutely no issues with this kind of place, but this place did have an issue with me. This does not upset me, they were surprised to see me, I was equally surprised. I could have run away, but I did want some coffee, so I ordered a Vietnamese coffee to go. It cost me $ 5, $ 6 with the tip. It was served to me at the counter, not by the one girl I saw taking care of about a dozen male patrons on this late weekday morning. She was hiding behind the counter like I was her father. So funny, even funnier the more I think about it. The coffee was good enough, not worth $ 6 but it was supposed to come with a shake on the side, I missed out on that. For dudes(and ladies for that matter) who want a chill environment, dim lights, lots of sports on multiple televisions, bumping music and female service with a smile this may be fun. I think I also saw a VIP area roped off in the back corner. Not my thing but you go right ahead.

OMG, cheesy as hell! Granted we came early so their«A» squad wasn’t there(and it’s a stretch to call it a squad… there was only 1!) anyways lame as service… girl quAlity was that of an AMP(Asian face, fake boobs, skinny legs, with a pouch belly — prob had 1 kid!). Oh and it’s $ 5/coffee! AND — I’m guessing that each glass is ½ o what you’d get at a Phở place… can’t know for sure cuz they didn’t let it drip at the table… Do what chu will with that info!

Terrible choice of music for a vietnamese place. Staff allow smoking and gambling inside. Food and price ok.

Update: bummer, the scenery is no longer good and is off my rotation. It’s a typical SJ VNese café, but one of the newest so that’s a plus. They take care of the place or clean often because it remained nice. However, it is stuffy inside and there doesn’t seem to be much/enough ventilation, and the window tint darkens the place. I prefer bright coffee shops. Having said that, I’d still go back for the decent coffee and attentive service — though newbie said the coffee is strong. I can see this place in my rotation CN1. Located in the Vietnam Town shopping center next to Grand Century Mall.

the minus is they allow smoking in a closed room, I even saw a staff smoked in her shift, they should let the smokers go outside. never come back if smokers still there

This a much better location than the old shop across the street. Staff is very attentive, coffee is just right. TV set up so you can watch 6 games at once. I would have no problem giving this place 4 stars just on the talent alone. Also at the times I have. Been here it was smoke free.
