Sorry to see you go Voodoo. Lots of great memories here with my friends. This is definitely a nostalgic place for me because this is where I first met my gf. We were introduced by my roommate at the time and from there is history. The space is of good size. When it was occupied, they had two bars, one on each level. I’d come here each year for my friend’s birthday parties and they usually reserve the upper level just for friends attending their party. It’s a great atmosphere, the dj’s usually played hip hop and r&b, it’s a great place to mingle and catch up with my friends or even just to find a reason to get drunk. Good times, great memories.

Music is always the best here, crowd is always young and hip, you can wear yr sneakers and t-shirt, they are not too picky with the dress attire, but at the same time you have to look somewhat urban styled not just some old school levis and a hanes t-shirt just won’t do. They also have a upstairs area with a bar and that is not always open but it usaully open for sure on Saturday Nights. The bartender make the drinks really strong here which is a major plus, and they always play hip hop and even old school hip hop like 90’s music like Biggie and Pac all the time which juiced anytime I hear the old school legends!

Wow, if I didn’t get in here for free the other night, then this would totally be a 1 star review. Had a pretty terrible time here at this lounge. First off, the music was really bad. They had a bunch of live rappers performing along with the songs the DJ was playing. The rappers weren’t anything special. I’ve kind of realized by now that when someone is rapping, nobody dances. And the rappers always have to promote themselves and nobody cares at all. The DJ’s were pretty bad as well, playing a lot of random songs that nobody has ever heard of. It’s kinda like«wow how am I supposed to dance to this?» The venue itself is alright sized. It actually wasn’t very hot in there, which is usually a problem with most other clubs/lounges I’ve been to. The real problem with this place though, is the crowd. Wow. Just wow. Usually when I go to clubs, there’s always at least one weird guy there, that tries to force his way to dance with the girls in your group. They’ve always left us alone when the girls run away from them. At Voodoo, there wasn’t just one. There was like 5 – 6, and they didn’t go away when we told them to. They would leave for a few minutes, then come right back and try and force their way on again. For example, me and my group of friends would be dancing together, then said creeper guy would come with some abnormal gyration of his body and insert his way right on the back of a girl without her consent at all. The girl would run away and the guy would follow her trying to stay on her back. I’d have to step in and pull my friend away from the guy and dance with her so that the guy would leave. He would them shift away to the next girl in our group, and I’d have to save that friend. This would continue with every girl in our group, until they would leave. But, 5 minutes later, they would show up again, and this process would repeat. Great crowd here. Probably not coming back here.

packed dance floor with areas off the dance floor not too packed to actually talk and mingle. The music was just great, the dj’s playing were mixing up it up good with mostly hip hop. The people here were pretty cool, and was a mixed of ethnicity and ages 21 – 29 ish. I liked the music, the sofas/chairs to sit, the 2nd floor bar/area, and the booths. Guest list = $ 5 Regular = $ 10

Ugh, Voodoo. I used to come here a lot, especially on Saturdays. This really used to be my favorite place to go to because of the music. I didn’t have to dress up or anything, it was pretty chill. But I will never ever forgive them for playing that stupid song. I remember that night so clearly. There was a lot of UNZUNZUNZ goin on, and then I hear«It’s t-shiirt time». I look at my friend and I say«what the eff is this crap?!» She says two words, «Jersey Shore». OHHELLNO! I don’t like watching that stuff and I don’t want to hear it when I’m downtown trying to have a good time! Bottom line: Voodoo has gone downhill since then. But if I were to go DT, I’d still go here instead of Saboring any day. Just please promise me you’ll never play a jersey shore song again. Please and thanks in advance.

With good company, makes this place enjoyable. Dance floor gets pretty full once the people get in. Party seems to start at 11pm… Other than that, service is kinda poor but the music keeps on poppin’

A fun spot for Music in the Park after parties and just as fun for Halloween!

Typical cover on a Thursday/Friday/Saturday will be around $ 10. The dancefloor itself is pretty small and it gets filled up quick. They are very chill on dress code, so no worries there. Crowd tends to be younger. Mostly Asian and Filipino. Guy to Girl ratio is horrible. If you know Asian dudes, you know that the majority of them stand around on the dance floor, so they’re not helping the ratio at all. lol. Drinks are typical downtown SJ prices. I rather drink at other places first(DIVEBARR!!!) then come here to party afterwards. I am being a little harsh with only 3 stars because I usually have a good time when I come here, but I just prefer a more«mature» crowd. I get tired of little hypebeast kids and their whacky fashions. Lol

Ah… memories. I have been coming to Voodoo for a very long time. I know. I am only 28… but still, feels long to me! But I have a lot of good memories here. Mind you, I have only been here for shows… never on a regular kinda club night I guess… but the bar staff is alawys great… they will try and find me what they dont know off the top of their heads. The door staff is fantastic. They remember names and faces pretty well… … I went back to Voodoo after years of not going(I lived far away) and had another amazing experience. It was a Thursday night… a random show with NSV, Monkey, FTB and Whiskey Avengers and POW… another knock out. The show was great… the crowd was a mini high school reunion for me and I have zero complaints. Now…it is downtown… so parking can be a bitch…(I work a few blocks away so I abuse my expensive parking spot!) …but in all reality… if there is a show you want to see and it happens to be at Voodoo… dont hesitate. Great venue. great time.

Went here for a concert. The crowd was full of Ghetto birds, but I love watching them. Hey sorry I’m a people watcher. This one girl with her tube dress dancing with her cell phone in one hand, a huge tat on her right back. Haha! Anywho, the singers didn’t know how to use their mics, so I couldn’t understand them. I had to go and sit on the comfy chairs in the back. Saw the funniest thing while my friend was pee’ing, In the mens room a guy had a room fragrant spray and was going all crazy in the mens bathroom. Guess some guy dropped a big bomb. Too much. Voodoo used to be a theater house, I once worked it while back in college. I was a spotlight operator. Went dancing there a few times too. Now it is starting to get busy again, good for Voodoo lounge.

Yeah… Voodoo Lounge is kinda seedy. I’m feeling generous today but I think it really deserves 2.5 To people who have never been hear but heard of this place and want to be adventurous like I was — DON’T be. You’re really not missing much. It’s gross and dark and dingy and dirty, just as Leilani N. stated. The drinks are decently priced, but boo on the cover charge. Brownie points on having Warren G. the other night, and supposedly Lady Gaga will be here in a week or so…

I was here for a Saturday night. It has a decent size dance floor and a great drink special till 11. 2 for 1 drinks of Hennessy and Ketel 1 vodka. Pretty amazing if you ask me. Get your drink on at first then dance it off at the end. It was packed the night I was there and the ratio was about 50⁄50. I spent about 90 dollars for 3 friends and we were still saucy at the end. Took a cab so no worries on the drunk driving. p. s. taxi cabs are cheaper then a D.U.I. believe it.

So I checked out this place last night(Friday) with my friends and maybe I just went on a bad night but if it wasn’t for being around good company, I wouldn’t have had a good time. Cons: –DJs suck, they played old songs and repeated a lot of unpopular stuff. One of the DJs even failed and stopped the music for a bit. –The inside looks gaudy, like a safari through up on it with their ugly leopard/zebra furniture. Kinda tacky. –Not worth the $ 10 cover –This place was NOT crackin’. No one was on the dance floor for a while, til maybe 12. I thought it was maybe just the lounge or entrance area, went upstairs and realized it was the dance floor. I felt like I was at an awkward junior high dance. –Smoke area was small –The photographers are a joke I do basic photography on the side and these promoters were passing around a Nikon not really knwoing how to use it, pointing the flash in weird places. Pros: –Upstairs area, but no one was chillin there so they ended up closing the space(kind of pathetic that they have to make their venue smaller to look bigger) –The drinks was decent and set at a decent price. The bartenders were quick about it, but maybe because no one was there. I also felt like everyone was desperate. I was just watching how BOTH guys and girls were getting rejected on the dance floor. Don’t get me wrong, there were some good looking people but, there are also the desperate folks. It was kind of funny because they were tryin’ so hard to get some. One girl came up to me and she was so drunk i couldn’t even make out a word she was saying, She looked like she was going to collapse. C’mon people, keep it classy. But if it was my own choice, I would not come here a girl. Voodoo lounge, get it together.

Props to Voodoo for trying to revive the South Bay Local Music Scene. I came here 2 weeks ago for the Tribal Disco Noise reunion show. This is a nice, intimate venue that is thankfully bigger than The Blank Club(which is your only other live show option downtown) Now they are booking bigger acts like Shrinebuilder, Hank III, etc, If you are a regular, you know downtown BADLY needs to diversify the crowd from«We Be Thuggin’». Keep bringin’ the loud LIVE music to the South Bay, a scene that once thrived a decade ago… hopefully this venue can help it get back on its feet!

This place almost gets a 4 stars because I’ve generally had a good time. I just hate how they try to hold up the line so that it seems crowded and when you get in there– no one is in there yet! The music is legit playing all types of hip hop and rap. The bar area is always pretty empty– maybe people are being cheap! On a Saturday they had a happy hour til 11pm where it was buy 2 get one free so that was awesome. Try to get on the guest list so you don’t have to pay 10 bucks. Its mostly always an Asian crowd– most of downtown San Jose is for the most part. Oh and the couches towards the back of the room behind the bar. I would say don’t sit on them. I’ve seen a lot of gross action go down there. Yuck!

Why do all the guys here dress like high school students from Daly City circa 1997? I thought we were past inappropriately oversized clothing, especially worn by guys that are 5’5″ on a good day. I know that I’m supposed to be reviewing the venue and all, but it can get distracting when my biggest concern is what kind of crowd it attracts, and my age aside, I was very clearly out of place. The venue itself is decent, as I’ve stated before I’m old as fuck because I don’t know any of the songs so I can’t comment on that… but the crowd it attracts is too reminiscent of high school dances from my adolescence, minus the Mad Dog 50⁄50.(hey, I went to public school in the Stack, don’t judge me. And look how cool I grew up to be!). Admittedly, I don’t party much these days because I am not trying to be the mommy running up in clubs a la Chris Rock’s «Bigger & Blacker»: «You got to get your kid on, or your groove on. You can’t get both on at the same time.» So when I do get a rare chance to kick it, I look forward to it being time well spent having a good time with grown folks. That so didn’t happen here, dammit — I feel cheated of the 15 minutes of my life I’ll never get back.

I had to pay a $ 10 cover. pretty cool stamp though. you can only see the entrance stamp under the UV light that they have at the front! i am a nerd! In and out privileges! thank god since you do end up needing some air! I was surprised at how big the place was once i stepped inside. High ceilings with a dark atmosphere and bricked walls. Good size dance floor Good music that Saturday night. I hear every 3rd saturdays that is when the place is best. Good crowd since I also went with my posse. All i remember is a girl bent over 90 degrees in front of this huge ass guy getting it on at the dance floor. haha!

Pretty small venue, but for what it lacks in size it makes up for in décor and quality. There’s some really good art pieces hanging up that one could stare at for hours, especially if you’re intoxicated. My boy got a Long Island Iced Tea for $ 10, which is a bit pricey, but not a rip-off. We attended for the 80’s Babies and Breezy Excursion event. I left early because I was tired, but it was cool.

Minus one star for the times when I can’t somehow cut the line and have to stand behind a string of smokers blowing away without any respect to the people behind them. Minus another .5 star for day all the asians that are all fitted from examples theyve seen on . Music Machine holds a special place in my heart because some of the best, blurry, sweaty nights are from this place. At first the event attracted an older hip hop crowd, but now its washed out like most events in san jose that get ruined by little pinays in oversized rimed glasses and bright forever 21 layers under a TRUE shirt. I guesss its better than colorful forever21 dresses with shiek heels, so ill choose the lesser of two evils. The music is always, always, always on point. I remember one night when Kanye’s Good Life was hot, one of the djs mixed it in with PYT where the sample was supposed to be. Another night they ended with Al Green. suhhhweet!

Heavy Rhythmic Action From the dance floor, I have to say. Unless the bartender actually is the roomie of a 6’3″ guy I’ve been hanging out with recently AND one just happened to be friends with the bouncers. Then it truly is the golden ship for anyone attempting to brave the lines as well as the crowds in a place that is jammed to the gills with regulars as well as SJSU students and surrounding filters from the recent game that night. After swerving to avoid most of the mashing going on, we went straight upstairs where the bartender made the strongest drinks imaginable. I was not ready to mix it up and get sick(I am Asian, come on now) so I stuck with the pure materials. Grey Goose over rocks. That’s right. The alcove upstairs is dark and perfect for the lounge types. In addition, the sound guys are also located up here, so when I was leaning over the railing to look out over the crowd, you can see everything. The stand here tonight was a live jam, which made me feel like I was reliving that scene where Eminem was partaking in a free flowing rapping contest in the movie 8 Mile. This venue was good for people looking to hip/hop dance and share in the music. Pretty clean, although I was not downstairs to get smashed in the mêlée. Some guys were break dancing on the floor, it was pretty old school. Then all hell broke loose when Souls of Mischief took to the mic. Never heard of them, but they were pretty good. In all, a great experience. The venue was good as well as the sound. The bartenders rocked as well as the bouncers, who wished me a good night, especially since they saw that I was not drunk off my ass like the rest of of the people there.
