I’m very annoyed with Rok Prime. My husband and I had enjoyed dinner there several times and purchased a $ 100 gift card for a friend as a thank you gift for something very thoughtful he had done for us. Unbeknownst to us, the restaurant was closing it’s doors the same month we bought the card. Our friends drove down to SJC expecting to use the $ 100 gift card, only to find the restaurant closed. Really crappy Rok Prime — you accepted our $ 100 for a gift card you knew would never be able to be used. If this restaurant organization ever opens another restaurant in the area, I hope it fail miserably. They suck!

Talk about making a meaningless review — that would be this review!!! We really liked this place. The food was good and the service was even better than the food. They ran great specials including their lunch special and some excellent deals through TravelZoo. But sadly, I just opened an email from TravelZoo that reported that RokPrime has closed down. We had two meals there in the past ten days — we will miss RokPrime. Another one bites the dust…

Very friendly staff, great atmosphere, and excellent service but the food was the best of all. This experience was way past our expectations we’ve gone back many times and it’s always great . Try it for yourself

Spendy, but worth it. The four of us split an order of the lamb«lolipops» appetizers, which were delicious(and came four to an order, so perfect). Three of us had the Wagyu flatiron steak, with the rock for tableside grilling. Two of those went with the mashed potato sides, the third opted to sub grilled asparagus for the side. The fourth person had the house burger, made with fresh ground steak and prime rib meat, with a side of fries. Three of us started with the tomato and avocado salad, the fourth had the cream of something soup. Our server was very friendly and helpful. She made a point of memorizing each person’s name and using it. Following her advice, those of us with steaks cut them in half, leaving half on the super-hot rock, the other on the side plate she brought. Also following her suggestion, those with mashed potatoes grilled some on the rock, which they pronounced super tasty. The tomato and avocado salad was good, but the tomatoes were not very flavorful, and the«wedge» concept doesn’t really work with romaine(even baby romaine). It was a bit awkward to eat, and since the leaves had never been separated, they obviously couldn’t have been well washed, so we checked them carefully(good thing, too). The soup was rich and creamy. The Wagyu flatiron was melt-in-your-mouth tender. The burger was very flavorful and had a nice texture. I highly recommend this restaurant, especially for special occasions or the occasional splurge night out with friends.

Seeing this place had only 3.5 starts, we hadn’t expected much but I was pleasantly surprised after i dined here with some friends. We had a deal at travel zoo, so the dinner was a great deal for two. The service was wonderful and friendly, although sometimes difficult to track down where she was and it was a bit slow. The place had old photos with cheetah seats that were definitely eye catching, weird actually, but in a good way. They gave us truffle butter with bread to start… That in alone itself was enough for me! Nice truffle aroma that we had to ask for more to put on our steaks that we ordered! We had a 3 course prefix menu which was fine by me. I chose the cream of mushroom soup, which was wonderful, creamy, nice earthy flavors of the mushrooms. My friend had a Caesar salad that wasn’t exactly my cup of tea, when I usually LOVE Caesar. Probably because they add Tabasco for a kick in the Caesar… Didn’t appeal to me. We all ordered the 6oz filet mignon on the heated salt slab, this was such a wonderful eating experience. Came with a side of roasted veggies or garlic mashed potatoes. I suggest the mashed potatoes… So good, perfectly seasoned, buttery, yummm. I asked for rare since it continues to cook at the table. They also provide fresh cracked pepper and Himalayan pink salt(different and loved it) for your steaks! A tip that our server suggested was putting the steak on the plate and cooking a slice of steak, one at a time, so that each bite would be warm and fresh. They also come with sauces for your steaks… Blue cheese, chimichurri, burgundy wine sauce, and brandy peppercorn. Dessert was beautifully presented and topped with fresh berries. both the brownies and crème brûlée were yummmy, and not overly sweet. Nice dining experience, love to come back for a date night.

We came here to use our travel zoo voucher, which for $ 60 included 2 starters, 2 entrees, and 2 desserts. I upgraded my starter to a wedge salad for $ 4 more, which I regret doing. The dressing was watery and the salad’s toppings were not as plentiful as i had hoped. My friend ordered the cream of mushroom soup at no additional charge, and it was delicious! We both ordered the filet mignon, which was served on a hot rock. This is truly an amazing idea because it allowed us to cook each individual piece of steak to perfection and enjoy it warm! We even topped our meat with the truffle butter that comes with the bread. For dessert we ordered the crème brûlée and brownie– both of which were beautifully decorated with berries and tasted amazing. Overall our dining experience was excellent and I would love to come back!

Awesome building/atmosphere, great service, and very tasty food. We had… 1. Lamb lollipop in berry/merlot reduction — very tasty lamb chops! 2. Brussels sprouts topped with poached egg yolks, pancetta, and red onion — very good. 3. Filet mignon served on the hot rock(very tender, tasty and cooks at table on stone slab) 4. Pork chop with jalapeño mac and cheese — large, juicy chop; very interesting mac and cheese dish(if you like spicy food). The menu is fairly expensive(within normal expensive range) but everything is properly priced, considering the caliber. They have a great wine list as well — we’ll be back!

My boyfriend and I were hungry for lunch so we came for the $ 10 mimosas. It didn’t seem like much from the outside but the inside is this old beautiful building. The hostess explained that they had live music on the back patio. So of course we wanted to check it out. We listened to these two blues/classic rock guys jam out while we ate our lunch. I got a tomato avocado salad with a baked potato and he got a chicken sandwich with truffle fries. It wasn’t the best food ever but the atmosphere was so mellow and the waitress was really sweet. But the best part is, the back patio faces the historic railroad tracks of San Juan Capistrano. Go for the mimosas, stay for the music, and enjoy the scenery!

Honestly, this is like a 2/2.5 rating… but anywayyyyyyyyyyyy My coworker graciously treated me here, which was super sweet on her part. We got here on a week day around 6PM and decided to eat out on the patio. Which has it’s pros and cons. The weather was perfect, but when loud buses/motorcycles zoom on by you can’t hear anything. The food itself was okay. My filet came out on a stone(awesome) but it was just.okay. I tried my friend’s rib-eye and it was also slightly better, but still okay. The sauces they give you were also okay. The mashed potatoes were whatever. I did like my wedge salad. Super creamy heavy dressing(I like that hehe) and the lettuce/tomatoes were super fresh. It was very filling. Probably like 1,000 calories – haha I’m not complaining! I love gorgonzola. The brownie dessert was pretty good/standard. I liked the candied walnuts. All in all, not an amazing experience, I wouldn’t wear super nice clothes as the meat sizzles when it’s cooking on top of the rock. That was probably the most interesting part.

I just had my daughters baby shower at RokPrime. I had never eaten there, but fell in love with the chandeliers, open windows and overall ambience. Sari replied to all my emails promptly… she and the chef customized a menu for my budget and for my vision of how I wanted the menu to be. The day was perfect! The service, food, and kindness of everyone was over the top! Thank you everyone for making my daughters baby shower everything I wanted and more!

Been living in CA for 16+ years and had never been to Mission San Juan Capistrano… very nice town. RokPrime is pretty much across the street from the Mission Amy was our server, she was helpful, quick and did a great job. The décor is interesting. Mismatched chairs, eclectic artwork. Food was tremendous. We had a late lunch. Wife started with a Raspberry Smash cocktail, I got a Mojito. Very nice At Amy’s recommendation, our appitizer was the pancetta wrapped prawns, served with a nice thick reduction sauce… very, very tasty… easily feeds two as an appetizer. I got the hanger steak, it came out sizzling on a slab of black salt, truffle fries and the roasted corn with proscuitto/basil butter. My wife got what looked like a very nicely cooked piece of Chilean Sea Bass, and she said the bread was exceptional as well. One of the best lunches I have eaten in a very long time. Originally wanted to eat at Ramos House, but they don’t do reservations, and I understand that it gets quite busy there. There is not a restaurant on the planet worth waiting more than 15 minutes to get a table, imo. The only ding to RokPrime was the cost. The tab was north of $ 100.00, including three cocktails. They could bring it down a little.

I was here with my boyfriend last month to celebrate our anniversary. When we walked in the restaurant, I was surprised to find it completely empty… there were maybe two other tables being served at the restaurant and it was 7:30pm on a Thurs night. There was no hostess so we just kind of walked around when a server came out from the kitchen and took us to our table. First, we had some wine, which was a nice addition to our meal. I started with a caesar salad. The salad was… different. I got a whole quarter of lettuce head on the plate, which I had to cut into small pieces to eat. I’ve never been served caesar salad like that before so I thought it was a bit strange. The salad itself was good, the dressing was a bit much so it was really salty but it wasn’t too bad. Then I moved onto the entrée, filet mignon with garlic potatoes. I love the concept of cooking your own meat on a hot piece of lava rock. My filet came out a perfect medium-rare, which I cooked a bit more for a medium. It was delicious! The garlic potatoes were alright, nothing special. For dessert, I had a crème brûlée, which I barely finished. It was SUPER sweet. Service was pretty good. Would I come back? Meh. maybe?

4 – 4.5 stars for me… i’m rounding up a little to give them some love. bf took me out here on sunday night for an early valentine’s dinner. caleb was our server… super awesome guy! he gave us good tips on the food and he made sure we didn’t over order. everything we had was pretty tasty, i’m surprised that the Unilocal rating was so low. we got the lobster stack to start off with. it was light, sweet, and refreshing. i wish the jalapeño gave it more heat. it just tasted like bell pepper to me. we also go the truffle mushroom risotto, homemade 3 cheese mac, and wedge salad. wedge salad was on the house with my Unilocal check-in =). the risotto was flavorful but not over powering. the mac n cheese was pretty well done(i’ve had some crappy mac n cheese at some fine dining restaurants), and it had great cheesiness + flavor. i normally don’t eat salad or veggies for a special dinner because i want to save room for the good stuff. but the wedge was refreshing and tasty that we ate every last leaf. now…the star of the show… WAGYUFLATIRONSTEAKCOOKEDON A STONE… OMIGOD…THISWAS F*INGAMAZING!!! YOUHAVETOGETTHIS!!! it’s so delicious, we ate some pieces rare. great flavor, great texture, great everything. GETTHIS!!! don’t think… just get it. trust me. we finished off the meal with butter cake… we made the right choice =) so good! it was a great meal and a great experience. i highly recommend this place… definitely get the wagyu.

more like a 3.5÷5 stars. I came here with a travelzoo coupon. I think i paid like 50 bucks for 106 $ worth of food. not too shabby if you ask me… it consisted of 2 non-alcoholic drinks, 2 soups of salads, 1 appetizer, 2 entrees and 1 dessert. i ended up with… rok portabella: you get two over-sized portabella mushrooms stuffed with feta cheese and covered with balsamic vinegar and tomatoes/basil. It was good, but I think if you were to get it a la carte, its 10 $ and I don’t think that it is completely worth it. tomato & avocado: this salad was a little heavy due to the avocados, but it was very tasty nonetheless. It uses red wine vinaigrette and has fried jalapenos as well! Gives it a nice kick 6 oz filet migon w/veggies and mash potatoes(with blue cheese and chimmichurri sauce): the main entrée of the meal is the most interesting one that people talk about. Essentially, they bring your steak out on a hot slab of concrete… and you cook it yourself. You can make it however rare you want it. Make sure you don’t leave it on for too long since you’ll burn the bottom of the steak and render it inedible. The mash potatoes were just so-so, and I think the veggies were fried okra??? Warm butter cake: I felt like this was the best item of the night! haha… its not to mention that the rest of the food items were lacking… its just that i have a sweet tooth. you get ice cream and some berries to go with your cake. we came on a very bad night(extremely busy). i have to admit, it took a long time for the food to come… however, i felt bad for all the tables around us because they kept running out of food and the waiter kept telling them they would have to choose something different.(i guess everything i picked was not that popular or the restaurant really liked me) lol… the manager informed us that this was not typical night, and asked if we wanted anything comped. i got 2 free gin and tonics out of it. WOOT. haha.

I’m knocking off one star for the rubbery Chilean Sea Bass. Everything else was was very good… we were even allowed to bring our dogster on the patio. Yeah! Our poor doggie is all by herself five days a week while we work, I hate to leave her alone on the weekends so I try to find spots that let us bring her. She’s so good, she just sits under the table on the patio and behaves herself. The waitress even brought her a bowl of water. I bought a Travelzoo deal which is a great way to try out a restaurant. My hubs had the petite fillet and I had the Chilean Sea Bass with veggies. I took a bite and ick… my hubs took a bite and said the same thing. I should have sent it back since it was very undercooked or asked for another dish. To be honest, whenever I order fish in a restaurant, I order sole or salmon. This was probably my first time eating sea bass I was not sure if it was supposed to be rubbery like that. I have since talked to people who know their sea bass, and no, it is not supposed to taste like a rubber duck. Hubster said his steak was very good however. Everything else we had was really good. For an appetizer we had the breads and spreads which I loved. My hubs was thought it was so-so. I had the spinach and strawberry salad… again yummyness. For dessert, I’m usually a chocolate all the way kind of girl, but I decided to try the warm butter cake. It was good, sweet and with a crispy outside crust. The ice cream that came with it was yummy and did not taste like grocery store ice cream. I’m glad I tried the butter cake, but I’m still a chocoholic at heart. The service here was excellent. The front desk girls were super nice, I made a reservation and we arrived on time & we were shown to our table immediately. Our waitress was a sweetheart, she explained how the«cooking the steak on a rock at your table works». Hmmm… intreasting concept but hubs elected to have his steak cooked in the kitchen. Our waitress was quick with our drink refills(many) and the busboys were quick and friendly. I loved sitting on the patio and people watching. San Juan this time of year has a lot of tourists so there is some great people watching. It got a tad cold so bring a jacket if you plan to sit on the patio during dinner. We sat under a heat lamp which helped. We had a great evening here but I’m not sure if I would return without a coupon. It’s way more pricey than hubs and I are comfortable with paying, but we are cheapsters. ha…ha. The Travelzoo deal was $ 49.00 which was a great price for this meal. I just wish the sea bass had been cooked a little bit more. One other item that needs improvement: the sink in the ladies room. It’s pretty but it is not functional because the faucet is way too short. Water splashes all over the counter and on to the floor. I was wearing a long maxi dress and it the hem of it dragged into the water on the floor.yuck. Change the faucets out and problem solved.

Calling all skeptics! This place is legit! Whenever a restaurant releases a Groupon or other discount voucher, you are always wondering if your restaurant russian roulette will pay off or not. If you are like me, I usually check the restaurant reviews before taking the plunge. Fortunately, in this case, I did not go just by the reviews, and was pleasantly suprised at how wonderful this place ended up to be. My friends and I bought the Travelzoo voucher which came out to be $ 22.50 per person for a 4 course meals. Typically, whenever a restaurant discounts their menu or provides a pre-fixe offering, they make up for the price cut by skimping on ingredients or serving size. RokPrime did neither of this! You can’t help but WANTTOCOMEBACK when a restaurant isn’t trying to make a quick buck but are actually interested in using this opportunity to win your favor so that you will revisit them in the future sans discount. I came with a large group and we all ordered a gamut of dishes but I will highlight the dishes that won the public choice awards: 1) Appetizer: Portabella Mushrooms 2) Salad: Tomato Avocado Salad OR Spinach Strawberry Salad 3) Entrée: Chilean Seabass(hands down our table favorite. Melt in your mouth like buttah 4) Dessert: Warm Butter cake with vanilla whipped cream Pro-Tip: RokPrime is located diagonally across the SJC Mission so take your date on a nice photo op session at the Mission before dropping by for dinner. Live music was playing when we went on Sat night. A totally romantic date :)

I really wanted to love this place, and hope that once they have been open for longer and work the bugs out it will be better. I’m giving it 3 stars because the food was overall good, with a few standout dishes and a few that left something to be desired. But, the service was lacking. I took my parents here the other day for my Dad’s birthday using a Travelzoo deal. Our server was very friendly, but we barely saw him after he took our orders. I did see him behind the bar a few times, so I think maybe they were short-staffed and he was multitasking, but in any case, we were left waiting for quite a long time between courses and it took forever for anyone to notice we needed drink refills. We got onion rings and stuffed portobellos for appetizers, which were both excellent. I was not a huge fan of the tomato soup(too smoky tasting for me) but my mom’s caesar salad was great(and HUGE). I ordered the 6 oz. fillet, which was cooked perfectly. The oven-roasted brussels sprouts, however, were under cooked and chewy. I tried some of my husband’s sweet potato fries and my mom’s truffle fries, and both of those were perfect. The warm butter cake was pretty good, though I wouldn’t give it the rave reviews others have. If Rok Prime steps it up in the service department I can see it’s potential. It is fun and trendy and the food is overall good, if a little pricey.

I found out about this place through LivingSocial. It was a tremendous prix-fixe meal. I made a reservation and we were seated immediately upon checking in. They gave us a super nice little booth that was very private =) I can’t say enough about the service. The manager stopped by a few times, and they just did the little things right — which i really appreciate. The food itself was good. That coupon was an outstanding value. I ordered the filet, and it was a good experience to try out their«old-school» way of cooking. It wasn’t the best steak I ever had, but still good. The gf ordered the chilean sea bass(w/miso sauce) which was pretty good as well. Salad was good, soup was alright. But we were very happy w/their(dark) chocolate fondue. They even gave us extras to dip! excellent service gets a bump up to 5 stars!

3.5 stars to be more exact~ I came here with my bf to celebrate our anniversary and we also purchased the living social voucher as well. So let me give you the details of the evening, shall we? The living social deal comes with 1 appetizer to share, Choice of soup or salad per person, 2 entrees(comes with 1 side), 1 dessert and 2 non alcoholic drinks. It was definitely a great deal to get when trying this place out because the food is pretty expensive. ****Quick Tip: If you are coming here with the living social deal, then make sure to print out the voucher because they don’t have the scanner for it**** When we walked in we were immediately greeted by the hostess and she seated us right away. We got seated in an room that was fit for big parties, but in the corner there was a romantic, round table(i’m guessing because she knew we were celebrating our anniversary.) It felt very exclusive since we were separated from the rest of the diners that were sitting all together in the main room. The manager then came out and also greeted us right away and so did our server, Colton. I noticed that a lot of Unilocalers said the restaurant was too cold, but i thought it was pretty warm maybe because the weather outside was getting warmer. BUT i’m sure management took notes of that so the manager told us that if it gets too cold to let them know and they’ll close the doors. About 15 minutes later, i guess it was very loud cause of the cars outside so the manager closed the door for us so it blocked out the wind and sound coming from the main entrance. They noticed that we had the living social voucher and told us they didn’t have the scanner, but they were very friendly and asked that we forward them our voucher to the manager’s email instead, so that’s what we did. Our server Colton was also very friendly, attentive and explained certain dishes on the menu we had questions about. He brought out some fresh bread and butter while we were still deciding on what to get. The bread was a bit hard and dry, it was hard to eat without the butter. So when our server came back to take our order we opted for their: 1) Drinks: — Sprite — Panna Still(aka acqua panna, this is actually bottled still mineral spring water) 2) Appetizer: — Roasted artichoke: This dish was pretty good, the artichoke lacked seasoning, but the buerre blanc sauce that they served it with added just the right taste. All in all it was ok. 3) Soups: — Potato Cheddar: The soup was served in huge mini soup pots, but it was only filled about 1⁄3 of the way. The soup was good and the flavor of the bacon really came through, me and my bf both enjoyed it. 4) Entrees: The living social deal comes with 4 options which are 6 oz. filet mignon, roasted chicken, braised short ribs and Chilean seabass, But our server told us that we can also get the Jumbo Sea Scallops or the Pork tenderloin medallions as part of the deal as well. — 6 Oz. Filet Mignon w/Sauteed Mushrooms: This was served on the hot slab of volcanic rock which was a great concept. The filet was tender and it tasted good although it’s texture was a little coarse compared to other filet’s i’ve had, but it was still tasty. The sauteed mushrooms however weren’t good and on the menu it indicates that the sides were shareable, but we only got a small amount just enough for 1 person and sides run about $ 7 – 8 each. — Prime Pork Tenderloin w/Garlic Mashed Potatoes: The prime pork tenderloin were a bit undercooked as it was still a little pink in the middle, so i stuck it onto the hot volcanic rock to cook it some more. We were literally cooking the food to our own liking, so it was a fun experience. It also came with a olive oil + garlic herb sauce so i used some of that and mixed it with the bread butter and made my own spread on the meat while i seared it. It made the dish have more flavor, but the pork tenderloins were very tender and juicy. The garlic mashed potatoes were ok, it tasted like it was made from instant mashed potatoes and the portion was also pretty small for a «shareable» side. 5) Dessert: Warm Butter Cake w/Vanilla Bean ice cream: Te butter cake was nice and moist, with a crisp exterior so i enjoyed it. The vanilla ice cream tasted like regular ice cream so nothing special, but i wished the gave more of the raspberry compote that was sitting underneath the cake. Overall, my experience was pleasant & fun. They just need to work on developing better flavors on their dishes and make bigger portion sizes because the sides were NOT shareable at all. BUT the service was great and they do really care about their customers because they would check up on us & even make small talk & made sure we were comfortable. Its a newly opened restaurant so i will be back in the future to see how they have grown. I would recommend giving this place a try!

Even with a LivingSocial deal, this place is not worth it. With the LivingSocial deal you get one appetizer, your choice of salad(caesar’s, mixed greens, or wedge), 2 entrees(they come with your choice of sides), one dessert, and two non-alcoholic drinks. We thought the concept was great — you get your meal presented to you on a hot stone slab and your meat continues to cook right in front of you. The ambiance was nice, except I thought the booths were too high. I felt like I was a child eating at an adult’s table — it just felt awkward. Now onto my gripes about this place — and it mostly centered around the food… Appetizer: — Roasted artichoke — there was nothing special about this, and there was no seasoning directly on the artichoke… I think they may have slathered it with olive oil and it comes with a side of melted butter. That’s pretty much it. Salads: I got the mixed greens and my husband got the Caesar’s. We both agreed that this was probably the best course of the night. There’s something wrong if that’s the case because it’s not hard to get mixed greens and caesar’s salad right. Entrees: with the LivingSocial deal, you get four options for entrees — petit filet(6 oz), roasted chicken, braised short ribs, or chilean seabass. — My husband got the petit filet and it came out on a hot stone slab. There was something off texturally about this«choice» cut. It didn’t taste smooth, buttery, and tender like the steaks I’ve had at other high-end establishments. There was also no seasoning on it — a sprinkle of salt and pepper would’ve gone a long way. — I originally wanted the the chilean seabass, but they ran out… so I settled for the braised short ribs, which didn’t come out on a stone slab(just a regular white plate). These should’ve been super tender, but they were really dry and hard to swallow. Neither my husband nor I liked this dish at all. For sides, we got garlic mashed potatoes and roasted brussel sprouts. The mashed potatoes are the chunky(not creamy) kind, which I like — you could see the potato skins in it too. There was zero garlic flavor though! The brussel sprouts were very basic — just slathered with some olive oil and again, no seasoning. What’s going on here? None of the food had seasoning and I’m a pretty salt-sensitive person as it is so I really don’t need much! For dessert we got the butter cake. It comes with a side of vanilla bean ice cream. The butter cake was moist and good, but the ice cream tasted like storebought, and it tasted like plain vanilla rather than vanilla bean. Overall, a disappointing food experience, but our waitress was friendly and we liked that she tried to make small talk with us. Right before we left, I had to use the ladies room and found that they were completely out of toilet paper — that final blow solidified the two star review for me(it’s actually teetering on one-star, but I only give those out if I get food poisoning or something). If we didn’t have a LivingSocial deal our entire dinner would’ve been $ 90 — the same price as Ruths Kris(but Ruths Kris has much bigger portions and is always delicious) or a nice sushi dinner. They seem to be trying to establish themselves as another fine dining restaurant on par with the fancy steakhouses, but high-end places serve consistently quality food, and don’t overlook the details like toilet paper!
