Candy Cove

Afraid I was sorely disappointed with our purchase this year for stocking stuffers. We bought 6 Idaho Spuds and 4 rolls of chocolate Necco Wafers. After we got home I noticed the Idaho Spuds were months past the expiration date, so decided to see if OK. It was unedible. Not only old, but also had funky taste like ant spray. Then I became wary about the Necco Wafers. Though they didn’t have that funky taste they were mottled looking and nothing I would stick in stocking. Though we will no longer shop there, we hope it is not a trend. The folks behind the register are always so polite.

I have been assembling party favor bags filled with old time candy for an upcoming picnic. I ran out of candy, which I had ordered from a website that specializes in selling bulk old time candy.
I needed more candy ASAP. A Google search resulted in two businesses close to my home; one in Berkeley and Candy Cove in San Leandro. Thereafter, I did a Unilocal research of both businesses. I chose Candy Cove because of the high ratings and a very reliable review by my fellow Unilocaler, Victor G. (Thanks, Victor, I would not have known of this store.)
It’s my first time at Candy Cove. I did not know what to expect, as to what types of candy they carry. I have to say it’s like sweet old school candy that I remember from my childhood days. The ambiance and color theme were perfect — in pink, which is my one of my favorite colors.
Once you enter Candy Cove, pick up a colored plastic pail near the front door. Roam around and fill the pail with whatever assortment of candy your heart desires. I love her inventory of candy — nice variety.
The owner was very friendly and helpful. I did not know I could put in an order for Brach’s nougats and/​or royals caramel (the ones wrapped in different foiled wrappers). Wow, I am impressed. She orders her candy from the same vendor that I have been using.
My purchase: frooties in three different flavors, banana splits and bit ‘o honey. The price was reasonable: $ 7.45 for 75 pieces of candy.
Return trips: Most definitely yes! It’s a great place to purchase candy to fill a piñata for children’s birthday parties.

A cute little place my girls love to venture to. It’s mainly for Special Occasions and Awards. A pricey sweet treat to thank them for always doing their best. It has higher prices than your average store, but they also have things you wouldn’t see in your average store.

Darling little candy store in the Washington Manor section of San Leandro. Local residents and owners Amie and Kevin are delightful, and very creative! Wonderful and abundant selection of old-​time candies, hard-​to-​find candies, and home made chocolates. In addition to candy, Amie also is super creative and has produced high quality birthday banners, custom baskets, and paper goods for many of my events since 2011. Their prices are so reasonable that I find myself thinking I have ripped them off at times! They also have a beautiful selection of home made holiday baskets, stuffed animals and the like, and hand made children’s aprons and bibs. So very happy to have them in my neighborhood! I wouldn’t go anywhere else for my candy needs.

Wonderful little candy store, Lady was real friendly Great selection

This place had every candy from my childhood, and even some hard-​to-​find ones from the present. Even my sons they were impressed and excited about the selection. The prices are EXTREMELY reasonable. We filled a huge bag full of candy for only $ 21 and even got a coupon for next time! Great fun. A must shop when in the area.

Good variety, great prices and friendly. Really like that they have things they pack up themselves like small bags of only orange gummi bears. The smaller packed sizes makes it easy to pick up a bunch of them, and not feel bad after you eat them all! I spent $ 6.00 and went to the theater with 4 different things to snack on. Love this place and so do my kids.

Candy Cove recently put together candy packs for our Photography Studio opening. They were a pleasure to work with and hand delivered delicious candy gift bags to our Benicia studio. Everyone loved the candy we passed out. I would definitely recommend Candy Cove for an event. Next time we are going to have them set up a «sweets table»! Yummm! Thanks for the candy!

Um… my friends couldn’t leave this store when we got in. There was a wide range of candies to choose from. They sold the caramel apple lollipops for $ 0.25, little caramel cubes for $ 0.15, and even some tiny Jelly Belly packs for $ 0.30. You don’t see many of these candy stores around anymore as the major supermarkets are the stop shop for candy. Candy Cove provides a good representation of what you would think of a candy shop back in the days. Even as teens, my friends and I were running around because there was so much candy to see!
It may look small on the outside, but it is filled with sugar on the inside! I never stepped foot inside until today and I was quite amazed. You can get so much candy for a small price.

Very good selection of my favorite candy. I was very surprised about the very cheap prices I bought about 8 things of candy 2 abba zabba, 3 cotton candy suckers, and my couple pieces of my favorite zots. All of it was $ 7 dollars which is a very good price. They have a good selection of Sugar free candy which is always good for people who are diabetic. The lady that owns the place was nice said hi but talked on the phone the entire time with seem to hear like a friend, which is totally fine but If I had a question I would feel like I was interrupting. I only gave 4 stars because a lot of the baked goods seemed to appear old and not fresh I would recommend maybe baking upon request! I wish they had a better Location so more people can see her great store better its hidden behind Porky’s Pizza. Overall good experience will come back!

Went to Mon Café today and spotted Candy Cove out of the corner of my eye. I had never noticed it before so I walked over and checked it out. It was cool they had all kinds of candy I have not heard of before and stuff I have. They also have the good kind of Kettle corn! I will defiantly be back sooner then I would like to admit.

Adorable local candy shop. My husband has a terrible sweet tooth and we often stop here for Fruities. They carry a variety of old school hard to find exotic candy (sugar free ones too!). They have them in mini-​bulk sizes and small prepackage sizes for easy consumption. Great place for sweet treats and gifts. Nostalgic almost. I hope they don’t close down being so hard to find here in little no name San Leandro. They dont have many candy stores now a days. especially cute Ma & Pa ones like the Candy Cove.

We are a bit early for the bowling special at the Manor bowl so we went for a walk around the strip. We ended up here at the Candy Cove. The murals are cute and it is pretty clean. But I guess I was expecting over flowing of candy items… apparently it wasn’t the case. The décor is pretty nice but was hoping for more selection of candies. My son bought a scorpion lollipop in which I was kinda not agreeing to. The gentleman that was assistanting us at the register was sweating so much but he was nice.

While I was with a friend nearby for a meeting/​lunch, my husband took our little girl here and brought me back some goodies. (Like the softest, strongest cherry flavored gummy bears I’ve ever had!) So, we went back there yesterday for my birthday as I wanted more of those delicious little bears.
What a cute little candy shop! Cute displays (love the beach/​summer theme in the front where I found dolpin lollipops with gummy décor) and sooooo many different candies you cant find in grocery stores (at least none I shop at). You could look at an area a few different times and find something new as there were so many little hidden gems. I loved the displays of jars/​containers with the name of the candy and the year it was from — a little bit of history along with the sweet treat!
From Marinis taffy we usually have to make our annual trip to Santa Cruz for to so many nostalgic goodies from when I was a kid (and even earlier). I recommend not coming in here just for a quick second, but take some time to enjoy the fun and nostalgia as well as new fun (vampire fang lollipops anyone?) From Mary Janes, Cow Tails, so many Jelly Bellies, candy cigarettes (the gum and sticks!), maple bacon pops, lollipops with crickets or scorpions, gourmet marshmallows, gift ideas with towel cupcakes, oh, and the sugar free section… wow! I was able to get sugar free POP ROCKS AND RING POPS!!! And soooo much more!
Amy, the owner, is very nice and welcoming. She can let you know about any of the candies there, candy ideas from conventions she’s been to, and just makes it fun to stop in and chat. Thursdays at 1pm for the rest of the summer she is having candy crafts for the kids — candy sushi and more! Looking forward to having fun with that!
HIghly recommend taking a few minutes and checking this place out, but dont blink or you might miss a popular candy from the 1920’s or mint julep candies or walnettos or mango/​chili pops or huge jawbreakers or super sour cry babies or…

After much debate, I finally ventured here (only because my lunch from next door wasn’t ready yet). Cute and simple layout. Pretty great selection of candy. I was actually impressed with the large selection of sugar-​free candy as I have diabetics in my family.
Marini’s salt water taffy (yes, the same one from Santa Cruz) is sold here. I only had a few bucks on hand so I got some pieces of taffy and it was deelish.
I’m not a big candy eater but I will probably be coming back if I get a sugar craving– if not, just for the salt water taffy alone. That stuff is like crack!

The wife had bought a bunch of candy from the Sun Hop Fat Market on 5^th Ave and E. 12^th and she mentioned she really was looking fora particular kind. I mentioned I had just read a story in the San Leandro Times touting the opening of The Candy Cove. The story (advertisement) mentioned a wide assortment of candies including Asian and Latin American candy among other kinds. So we meander on over to the Manor strip mall and peruse the offerings. There’s not much. From the story I expected a wide assortment of different candies but there wasn’t much more than a Jelly Belly dispenser, powder sugar dispenser and an assortment of regular candy one can find at the Dollar Store kinda of spread about the store. There was a section devoted to sugar free candy which looks promising. This in itself warrants a visit. So if you have diabetics who still have an incurable sweet tooth, then by all means go.
I was disappointed from the standpoint that the article really played up the place but when we got there, it was just a store front with candy spread out on the four walls. My wife and I decided to grab a couple of Magnums since we were there– but the transaction in front of us took so long that the ice cream was beginning to melt as we waited. This can be chalked up to the personalized service Amy was giving the customer which is a good thing. We ended up leaving– not mad or anything just that we were really looking for specific candy not ice cream and it just took too long. This is a good idea and I hope the store can grow a bit– but for my wife to walk into a candy store and not buy any candy (due to lack of selection)… speaks volumes.

Seriously, would a person in a family of diabetes ventured into candy cove? hypotentically no. just here out of curiousity.
candy cove is neither a copycat nor a clone. there are some unique candes here, out of the ordinary. worth checking out or at least taking a bite.

New candy store! Carries Marini’s Salt Water Taffy & Jelly Belly. Also has small selection of homemade chocolate candies such as English Toffee & Peanut Cluster. A nice selection of Powder Punch! Has some dime candies Root Beer Barrels, Sixlets, Chic o Stik. This place deserves a checkout.
