I am addicted to their BLT on fresh baked six grain bread and their cinnamon roll cookies. However, everything I’ve ever ordered here has been delicious. I ordered a large platter of cookies for a big company meeting. They accommodated the request with ease and efficiency. The daily specials are delicious. They use fresh, local ingredients for all of their items. Prices are very reasonable.

I didn’t even know this was a place. How many times have I walked/ridden by it and not known? I had the caprese sandwich. Solid caprese toppings, nice moist thick mozzarella, and the basil was just right, not too overpowering. The tomatoes were good, but I got a bunch of the center pit from the top/bottom of the tomato which sucks. The bread was obviously fresh, and though crusty not actually mouth destroying, which was appreciated. It was only about 7″ long and about 3″ in diameter which made for a very small sandwich. I left not really full, I could have gone for a macaroni salad but didn’t see any. The bred selection looked epic and I want to come back for a pretzel roll as they looked fantastic. Counter service was fine, though not engaging or memorable. Emplyoees standing around waiting for orders to come in so they can have something to do, though they didn’t greet us as we walked in… rather they just stared. Odd. But they were not rude, just bored I think. Outdoor seating was nice and they brought out food out to us, so I can’t complain about that. I’d come here again as the prices were good and the quality was obviously pretty great(aside from my janky tomato ends) nice place to switch things up a bit.

Love that fresh bread!!! — the sandwich was done beautifully. it is a bit slow as you wait while the take orders and keep working. the staff is working constantly and the load for making custom sandwiches(each sandwich is custom) is a bit much for the small staff. maybe more help? but then maybe that was just the noon rush. The place is connected into the newest county building and it seems like it may be the go to place for the offices. Keep your eye on the ball. The food is good and fresh and well made and tasty. so take a friend, place your order, take a seat and be patient. the patio is nice an some friendly conversation and the food will come!

Yup. that’ll do. I don’t know when this place opened but thank goodness I decided to go there! Only wish I had discovered it sooner! They are right across the street from Blackhorse on Higuera in downtown SLO and have a simple breakfast/lunch menu but don’t be put off by that. They don’t complicate and they don’t need to! I had the chicken salad on 6 grain with cranberry chutney. SOFREAKINGOOD. Everything is made in-house and you can tell. The bread was that perfect soft doughy but not doughy that I love with a crust that was crunchy but not super hard. I had to practice eating slowly bc it was so tasty. I went big and got a brown butter chocolate chip cookie to boot and it was YUMMO. I can’t wait to go back and try their different breads and sandwich combos and hopefully I can get there for breakfast for a burrito! They have an outdoor patio to eat at and a few small tables inside. Well done Breaking Bread. WELLDONE.

Their breads are wonderful! It’s also a great spot for a simple, healthy lunch… nothing fancy, but good. Parking is difficult.

The bread list changes daily. Some sell out quickly and sometimes it’s not ready past noon. My favs are 6-grain, and Vermont sour dough(only available on Mondays) and an olive something that’s done on special occasions. The baguette are very good; above average $ 3 baguettes much better than La Brea for example.

We just moved to Morro Bay a few weeks ago and were not sure how well developed the artisan food movement was here on the Central Coast. Breaking Bread has removed all doubts. They are a family run business that takes such pride in their hand crafted breads and pastries. The owner was so warm and welcoming, offering us a sample of all their daily offerings. I’m not sure which was my favorite: the six grain or the raisin walnut sourdough. I had a house made chicken salad sandwich on thick cut dark rye with cranberry chutney. By far one of the tastiest sandwiches ever. In addition they serve cold brewed iced coffee that was perfect. Dare I say that their prices are too low for the quality received. Of course I’m used to Southern California prices. I will be back often to support this wonderful business.

Wow. I their bread is the best in SLO county. It’s old world goodness. I had their vegetarian sandwich. It was freshly made and wholesome. I will be back and a regular customer.

Excellent BLT on 6-grain bread. The bread, lettuce & tomato were very fresh, and the bacon just right.

Always fresh. Always good. The breads are excellent. Had brunch with cousins here and everything was wonderful. I very much want this place to succeed as all of the previous restaurants have gone bust.

We visited this bakery for the first time but it won’t be the last. I ordered the BLT and it was the best one I have ever had. The bread was fresh and toasted to perfection. The bacon had just the right crispness and the tomatoes were from the farmers market. My husband ordered the Ham and Swiss and it was delightful as well. He couldn’t stop talking about the olive bread. The pecan cinnamon croissants were to die for. The owners are a friendly down to earth couple who will welcome you in like it was their own home. I will definitely be retuning every chance I get!

This review is about bread and Breaking Bread Bakery does a killer job at it. I love bread. I eat a lot of it. I also bake a lot of bread at home. On a recent trip to SLO, I picked up an epi and a loaf with lots of grains in it that were both excellent. The epi was still warm was looked like a work of art. My wife and I ate half of it before getting back to our friend’s place just a few blocks away. Yum. I don’t live in SLO but I’ll definitely make a point to stop in again the next time I’m in town.

Homemade quality, fresh baked items that are not shy in flavor! I eat from here multiple times a week and love the variety of items available throughout the week. They post the daily items on facebook as well as having some ready-made salads and side dishes for those in a hurry. Friendly people with a great product!

Came in here from out of town to get a to-go breakfast. I should’ve taking notice of the fact the place was empty; wallet café across the street was full. I shouldn’t have trust only 12 reviews, even though they were good. The lady at the counter was friendly but had a very bland personality. I asked her what was the most popular thing was and they say most people like the burrito, so I got one. She reaches behind the counter and grabs a premade burrito and slaps it on the counter. The sad little thing was no bigger than an empty toilet paper roll. She asked if I wanted something to drink I said no she charge me $ 5.80 for this precooked tiny little wormito. I knew I was in trouble after I purchased it because the sucker was rock-hard. I went to my vehicle to find out, when I opened it, everything must of been sitting in there for days. The cheddar cheese was hard as a rocks, the eggs were dry and the bacon was chewy like rubber bands. Dagnamit! $ 6 down the drain.

I’ve only been there once, but not sure if ever go back. Although the atmosphere is nice, I paid seven dollars for what I’d have to say was a rather bland turkey sandwich.

Great bread! Great cookies and morning buns! This place is a wonderful addition to San Luis Obispo. I am addicted to the bread. The french baguettes are perfect, crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside. I have also tried the Normandy Apple bread and cranberry raisin walnut, which were very tasty! I have not had anything I did not like. So far, everything has been probably the best I have had in SLO from a bakery.

So far, I have had the pecan bread, asiago scones, ginger molasses muffin and the cinnamon pecan croissant. Except for the croissant, which was chewy not flakey, telling me this was baked hours earlier. I would say everything else was excellent. They have a list of what is baked each day, so I will check that list daily. Also, they have a current list of what’s going in the oven on their Facebook page. Usually is quiet in here. They haven’t been discovered by the masses yet.

Awesome bread and great sandwiches! Bread that is good for the soul. Multi-Grain bread unlike any you have ever tasted. We happened upon this place when the Firestone Grill ran out of tri-tip and closed early on Christmas Eve. Wondering where we were going to eat we spied this place across the street. Breaking Bread served us some sandwiches and breads that made us forget our disappointment over missing the Firestone Grill. That’s how good it is! In the future choosing between the two is going to be a challenge. A true SLO conundrum.

SLO has been missing a truly great bakery, but I think I finally found one. From what I got out of it, they use all natural ingredients, have a lot of whole grain options, use agave syrup instead of sugar in some things, etc… I got a loaf of the whole wheat cranberry bread which was great. The muffins, especially the pineapple coconut one, were awesome as well. Also, the pecan sticky buns are delicious. They had a lot of enticing lunch options too but I have yet to try them. Maybe next time.
