The wait was long but well worth. Seating was pretty limited but the service was friendly and attentive. The only thing we had to wait for was the bill but if you sit at the bar, the chefs are generally pretty talkative. For me, I always like being able to talk with them so getting a seat there is ultimately what I would aim for. Optimally, aim for 2 to 4 people if you’re going to come here since it is the easiest way to go. We had a group of 5 and all had to sit at the bar because of how busy it was during dinner time trying to eat here. I had the garlic chip roll cuz well… I had never seen fried garlic chips being used on one and it worked amazingly. A little heavy handed on the sauce but the preparation and food was clean. I would definitely come to try other things without the group in tail so I could spend my time and enjoy the food.

My favorite place in all of SLO. If you’re looking for perfect sushi then this is the spot. The lunch specials are such a good value with about 5 item-meals for $ 18 or so! You can’t beat dinner there. The wait is sometimes long for SLO but so worth it. Once you’re in the service is impeccable, Asahi on tap is so cold, and the food divine.

Stopped by here on my way to L.A. Great fresh fish. Definitely recommend it to anyone looking for good sushi in this area. The wait is the only bummer but well worth it. Glad to have experienced this place.

Everything was wonderful! We sat at the sushi bar and are server was so sweet and welcoming. I was a lost puppy and they answered all my questions I had. I wish I caught our servers name because she was the sweetest! Young girl with long brunette hair. Kudos. I tried octopus for the first time and one of the cooks showed us how to eat it. I also had the oysters and it was amazing. Can’t wait to come back.

The go-to sushi place. You will experience quite a wait time for dinner, the place is pretty small but just be smart about when you arrive. Some of the freshest sushi you will ever get is here. I could taste the ocean when I had some sashimi, it was quite the experience. The host guy is also amazing.

Unreal service! So fresh! The flavors complimented each other so well in every roll we had. Nigiri was phenomenal, hand roll’s were great. Some of the best sushi we’ve had hands down! We would go here again in a heartbeat, and recommend it to anyone. We looked on Unilocal to check this place out after it was recommended to us, and in reading the reviews decided we had to come. It did not disappoint by any means. Also it was packed from the moment we got there, 8 minutes after it opened, to beyond packed, with a long wait time to get in by the time we left.

Hubby loves their Nama Chirashi. He said it’s the best he had ever had. So if you love sashimi, I would strongly suggest you try their Nama Chirashi. Their eel rice is very good too. My 8yo loves their Katsu Don. And my 6yo son always order the plain noodle that and always finished his bowl of udon all by himself ! As for me I love their Broiled Cod and Tempura. The cod is never dry although the serving is not a lot so if you want to eat a lot of fish, then order something else.

The sushi and dinner was amazing. I was so full when we were finished eating, but I actually wanted to be hungry so I could eat it all over again. The wait is a bit long, but it ends up being worth it. There isn’t really anywhere to sit or stand while waiting and that is why it feel like forever.(plus it smells so freaking good in there) Our server was very friendly. We sat at the sushi bar, so we also got the attention from the sushi chef in front of us. They have so many sushi options and everything we tried was amazing. It’s pricey, but again, you still leave happy!

Delicious — favorite Japanese place in town! My go to items are the miso glazed black cod, seaweed salad, and sukiyaki

If we ever make it back in SLO, I wouldn’t mind having a meal at Goshi again. My kids want Japanese food no matter where we are, so not surprisingly, they started begging for sushi on our drive up past SLO. Quickly we Unilocaled and found Goshi. To be honest, our expectations were low as the restaurant seemed to be in the middle of nowhere AND the place was empty, but we simply wanted a peaceful drive without the backseat whining. Turns out, this restaurant served decent Japanese food, and the menu has a lot to offer. The teriyaki chicken bowl wasn’t simply sweet like those at fast-food Japanese restaurants, the udon noodles had a nice chewy texture, the sushi pieces and rolls weren’t bad. My kids kept ordering inari, tobiko and tamago. The dressing for our salad was great, and I also liked the cucumber salad(sunomono) on the side. We certainly enjoyed our meal here. The room was calm and relaxing, offering the traditional Japanese ambiance. Service was accommodating and attentive. Our server even brought out these fancy gadgets for the kids’ chopsticks that helped them hold them properly. Very thoughtful. Thanks Unilocal, for this very nice find.

Such a surprise to find a place like this here, they offer a wide selection of fish and whole fried baby crabs how can you go wrong? It’s pricey but at least you get a lot of options.

I had a presentation that I had in town and we live in Minden, NV(7hours away). When I told my mom I was coming here for the two days she insisted on coming with me so we could eat lunch here. Mind you we are driving back at 5am tomorrow! As usual mom was right. Here for lunch. Miso soup — dang I could be happy with just that! Very tasty and slightly smokey. No spoon, which is good. Don’t wait for one like the table next to me. Slurp up. Albacore tataki– really liked this. Came with a nice clean sauce. Sides — cucumber salad and seaweed salad very clean and light tasting. Smoked salmon roll with spicy sauce. Note the spicy sauce has mayo or some type of white sauce. Good but if my sister in-law was here she would send it back due to white creamy sauce. Apparently she doesn’t like white creamy sauces. Smoked salmon was not overly smoky and was very good with the spicy sauce.

This place is hidden in the plaza. Very friendly staff and sushi chef. We ordered scallop nigiri and seared salmon belly nigiri. Both I highly recommend. You will feel the firework in your mouth like Fourth of July(or nye firework whichever is bigger in ur town). We also got nabeyaki udon and katsu don. Nabeyaki was nice. Pork in Katsu don is a little tough so I wouldn’t recommend it. Definitely go try this place if you are craving for some sushi

There’s not much in the way of superlatives that I can offer that haven’t already been said, so I will keep it simple: this is the best sushi experience in SLO County. Get a reservation. Best on the West Coast? In the country? Of course not — those claims are impossible to support. It’s not an experience like you would expect from Masa, Nobu, Jiro Lin or any of the other masters — but the check won’t look like it would at any of those places, either! Goshi is easily one of the top date spots in SLO, only comparable with Ciopinot(conveniently located next door) and Roma, and I believe all of the prices to be roughly equal — depending on wine and sake selections. In true Central Coast fashion, anything goes on the dress code. Shorts and a t-shirt will be seen next to a suit. The only true dress code(fellas) is to dress to match your date!

I was actually surprised that I didn’t put together a review for Goshi the last time I was here. The restaurant quickly became one of the top places that I have liked to visit when I am in the SLO area. I don’t think it’s an exaggeration when people previously reviewed this place as the best sushi in the area. They are. Freshest ingredients are the key to a successful place like this. Goshi is tucked away in a little shopping area away from the main Higuera street front. While it is technically on «Higuera Street» you have to actually hunt to find it. Once you do, you will never forget where it is. If you’re having trouble locating it, it’s on the other side of Chilopinot. There’s a small parking space outside of this restaurant but even on weekdays this place is hopping so you have better luck finding a space on the street which is free after 6pm. My advice, get a reservation before you come here. They will make sure you have a table and they generally are not behind on service. My three favorite dishes here are the Toro sashimi which is expensive but is probably the best sashimi that you can get. They are from local stock tuna but if you’re looking for something else they have an entire list of other great sashimi’s from all around the world. Next, the fresh seaweed salad is quite unusual but also refreshingly tasty. The salad comes with a mix of green and red seaweed topped with your preferred salad dressing. I would recommend the creamy sesame. After this dish, you’ll be clambering to have this type of salad. How do I know this? Well I have been waiting a year to try it again! Next, the Gyu Don, thin beef and onion over rice is quite possibly my favorite Japanese dish and I wasn’t surprised that after hitting all the right notes for appetizers and sashimi that they had this on the menu. I ordered it and 10 minutes later it appeared on the table with red ginger and red pepper on the side to top everything off. A mix of sweet from the onions, salty from the beef and then spicy from the pepper set off the right dopamine receptors that I felt like I was then complete after the meal. They actually have a fair number of ice creams there for dessert including green tea, black sesame, red bean and mango all of the flavors you would expect from a Japanese restaurant. Want something different? The black sesame is my recommendation! Again, if you’re looking for a Japanese place in the SLO area, this is the place to be. Make a reservation, arrive early and enjoy this great restaurant!

I’ve been here twice and really enjoyed the food and service both times! All the food is very fresh and authentic. I have had cooked and raw entrees here and everything is delicious. Only disappointment is that they don’t do my favorite — cold soba.

Kanpai! My gf and I ordered the Kanpai boat and were completely stuffed and happy. You can read the menu yourself but it come with edemame, tempura, 2 miso soups, 2 small rolls, nigiri, sashimi, and desert. For about $ 65 I think that was a steal. The sashimi is very fresh for California and a reasonable price. The place is rather small so I would recommend getting there when it opens, there will be a line. We were waiting in line and the other customers are a little rude and ignore the line completely. Once the doors open, even though there’s a line, people just rush in. Only bad thing, but I can fault the restaurant for poor customer manners. They have a large staff for the amount of tables in the restaurant so they are able to get customers in and out very quickly. Fast service, great food, and reasonable prices!

Never a bad experience at Goshi, although in my head I still think of it as Tsurugi, which was the previous name. You can always count on fresh fish, excellent service, and beautifully plated food. I’ve been eating here for the last twenty years and have never once gotten anything I didn’t enjoy. Don’t miss out!

Goshi is outstanding and a definite incentive to return to SLO: Fresh fish from Japan and the local coast, amazing prices and of course excellent service The bf and were on a road trip and decided we were craving sushi. My trusty Unilocal Bible brought me here. We could only wish our stomachs had more capacity to continue on our sushi eating frenzy. We kept it simple and ordered sashimi lunch specials, but those were some of the most buttery textured sashimi slices of fish we’d ever had for lunch. The chef even asked us what we preferred — which was super cool! Our hot tea cups stayed full. Additionally, I have to mention how condensed their green tea was– not like one bag for three kettles type of deal. I love my uni with a quail egg, and it was seriously the best here– softest texture ever. My bf had his favorite: mackerel Both of us hit the road with full bellies raving about the fresh seafood, prices, service and of course all the stuff we didn’t get to try on the menu. It is imperative we come back and continue sampling the menu! I wish this place were closer. It is an exemplary, no frills, sushi joint.
