Great pizzas; unlike any pizza spot in SLO(and there are a TON) with delicious and unique Mediterranean ingredients. A bit pricy for what you get on the other menu items. In my opinion, Fattoush on Santa Rosa St has more intense flavors all around and a better overall menu price. BUT Fattoush doesn’t do the awesome pizzas or have the great Happy Hour. *Oh yea, and Petra has a great deal on pints for a long happy hour of 3−7pm.

This place was pretty good. We were passing through this city and wanted something good. So I chose this place. Parking is annoying but this place was really nice to us. They gave us tips on how not to park on the street which was quite helpful. We appreciated it. The food was really good. I got a gyro along with my sister and mother. It was delicious. They had sauces that you could dip things in. Everything was really garlicy but it was worth it. Would come again if I lived in this city.

So I’m going to keep this short and sweet. Their pizza hands down was probably one of my favorite pizza joints ever. I definitely will be making another trip back before we leave back for home.

This place has DANK chicken kebabs. I’m not a big fan of most hummus, or even Mediterranean food in general, but theirs is spot on. Their pizza is a gem, too! One of the best pizza spots in SLO, to be honest. Wonderful spot, the food is fresh and delicious. I’ll continue to come back, frequently!

Petra is an amazing restaurant that serves Mediterranean food. All my meals have been cooked well with good proportions. The lamb is really really good

ABSOLUTELYDELISH. My cousin and I came here for iftar(breaking out fast after Ramadan) and it was just perfect. They were incredibly accommodating to our dietary needs — YESTHEY’REHALAL. I let the cashier know that we would not be able to eat our food until 8:15 because that is when we would be able to break out fasts, and she made sure our food was still warm and brought out on time. One of cooks even brought us free dessert — rice pudding — while we were eating, super cute. Definitely coming here next time in SLO.

4 stars for service. 2 stars for food. My wife and I, while on short stay at avila Unilocaled this place and were very excited about the prospect. However my wife’s falafel was undercooked, doughy inside. The second batch they brought was overcooked. My meal, lamb was good. The meat was tasty, a bit overcooked. The sauces, tahini, hummus etc were not too exciting, not extremely flavorful. The best part was the service. They were attentive and responsive to our requests. I hope the food improves.

Thanks again Unilocalers for helping me find the best restaurant in town. We ordered chicken Kabob plate, lamb gyro/sandwich and Greek salad. Very Good, generous portions and fairly priced. We also received good customer service. What more can one ask for.

FABULOUS! Petra is a must for authentic Mediterranean food! Met the owner Todd… a friendly, gracious and genuine man. The restaurant was clean and welcoming with service to match. The meal(Chicken and Beef Kabobs, full order of Knots, Lentil Soup and a Lamb Plate) was delicious! Worth the 5 Star rating and many return visits. Thank-you Todd!

One of my family’s go-to places in San Luis Obispo. I love everything on the menu, and have ordered it all. I usually do not check-in with Unilocal anymore, so I have been here far more times than Unilocal knows of. Petra makes their own pita there, on the spot — and is the only middle eastern restaurant I’ve seen that does this. They even use the same pita dough and make their pizza’s with it, so the pizza crust tastes like their pita! You really cannot go wrong here, it is simple and quick food, reasonably-priced and often crowded. Great hours, extending long-past many other eateries which is highly convenient for students and tourists alike(most locals would probably prefer to «roll up» the streets after 7pm). Everything is home-made, the babaganoush, the hummus, the cucumber yogurt salad, etc. I like the falafel pita sandwich(they do put bread into them, so they are not the more-green traditional, this is fairly typical for restaurants, and I like it done that way), I also love the seared cauliflower and carmelized onion appetizer(generous portion, be careful of the salt — I ask for low-salt or no-salt).

I was debating between a 3-star and a 4-star rating, but because of the pita bread, I’ve decided that they deserve a 4-star rating. The food itself is not terrible, but also not amazing. It’s pretty average relative to other Mediterranean food I’ve had. But the pita bread, oh my god. It was light and fluffy and warm and amazing. They say that they’re handmade daily, and I could definitely believe that. They’ve got samples up near the cash register that have cooled down a bit, but if you order it, you’ll definitely get it fresh!

Very good middle eastern food at Petra. The atmosphere is casual and friendly, and Petra is a popular restaurant in San Luis Obispo. The pita bread here is delicious… actually, all of the food here is excellent. A good selection of beer too. Not cheap, but not very expensive either. Nice place!

Forget about parking in the lot during lunchtime so you may have to walk a block, but it’s totally worth it. We walked in and were handed warm pita bread and an awesome, yet uncomplicated menu. A little pricey, but you won’t go away hungry. I think we paid $ 36 for two people with tip, which by the way I resent just a bit. I don’t understand why you tip someone when you order at the counter. She virtually took our order and handed us our food. We got our own drinks and refills. My wife being a former bar tender tips everyone regardless. The chicken shwarma was of the best I’ve ever had. My wife had a Greek salad and said it was perfect. The tabbouleh was great and the pita was warm and fluffy. Not much in the way of ambience and not a romantic dinner location. It is much more of a café feel and best for lunch. We will definitely be back.

They have cherry Coke, some people are into that(like my buddy here with me right now). Personally, I like classic Coke.(They got that too.) OK, if you haven’t tried their pizza, you gotta. They do slices at lunch time too. Otherwise, they do a pretty decent falafel, gyro, and lamb shawarma.(Fresh pita to sample!) And they have a pretty good beer selection and happy hour deal. Also, if you buy a «happy hour anytime» pint glass from them, $ 10(includes 1st pour), then like it says, you get their happy hour deal anytime. Not a bad deal. There are a few TVs here for sports(can’t recall if I’ve ever seen anything other than sports). It’s a local staple — happy to have these folks in the neighborhood. It’s a fairly kid-friendly place too.

So I saw two giant statements right before I walked into the restaurant: «the Only Daily Homemade Pita in California» & «King of the Gyro». Well, those are some pretty bold statements. Petra is a casual Mediterranean eatery(opened in 2008 — this was used to be a flower shop) located approximately 5~10 minutes walking distance away from the downtown San Luis Obispo. Menu: Plates(include romaine lettuce, hummus, cucumber yogurt salad, fresh tomatoes, and pita bread), kabobs(grilled skewers), fresh pita sandwiches, pizza, salads, and baklava *** Gyro Plate(Slowly broiled mixture of beef and lamb, include romaine lettuce, hummus, cucumber yogurt salad, fresh tomatoes, and pita bread — $ 9.99): Both pita and hummus were pretty decent, but there are better pita and hummus in Southern California. The good? Nicely seasoned beef and lambs with a good portion of food(you can get even more pita and hummus with Unilocal check-in deal). The plate is good for your money’s worth. Baklava($ 3): I ordered it and never got my dessert at all. It wasn’t until hours later I realized that I didn’t get my baklava … oh well, I will never know how this amazing dessert would taste like.(no stars) Note: I sampled a small portion of kabobs and it was amazingly juicy and chewy. *** Looking for novelty? Feel free to give their Mediterranean pizza a try. I highly recommend their kabobs and overall it was a pretty good lunch experience(minus the baklava that I never received). A solid 3.5-star, but bump up due to delicious kabobs and generous portion. P. S. — Free pita and hummus with Unilocal check-in.

Oh, Petra… Why you so good to me? Happy hour here including a cider and delicious garlic chicken pizza on gluten free crust… And I’m a content girl! Plus, free hummus and pita with a Unilocal check in. Many Mediterranean restaurants offer an option of sliced cucumbers instead of bread for carb free eaters.(Wink wink– please listen to this suggestion!!) This spot doesn’t do that unfortunately, but on my last visit a helpful employee put together a side of small chopped veggies from their salad mix in place of the pita. Not quite the same, but I appreciated the effort. Solid beer and wine selections. Most people are here for the happy hour beer deals, but they also have some microbrew, gluten free, and hard to find cider options in the beer case if you’re looking for something special. Delivery, take out, or eating in is always a consistently enjoyed experience for every member of the group I’ve had Petra with.
