I’ve been here a number of times and they give a great cut. Eva(Ray’s associate) has done a great job for me every time, with a good eye for detail! Bottom line, you can’t beat the price for a good cut.

Don’t go if you a are looking a shaved or line up hair cut style that place must be called a salon no a barber. The old lady did a terrible cut she don’t or dont have experience.

Ray is the man! The guy knows hair(he’s been a barber for over 50 years) and will be patient and meticulous with your trim, even if there is a line out the door. He is also one of the few remaining barbers that will do a close shave with a razor as part of your standard haircut. He offers a decent conversation but don’t be offended if he doesn’t remember you personally or asks you the same question multiple times. The man is 78 years old and definitely going a little senile… Still cuts good hair though! The shop interior has a fairly classic barber shop feel to it with antiquated equipment to match as well. Ray’s also got way more clocks hung up on the walls than a person really needs but I guess that’s just part of the charm. The only real downside is that he currently works alone and is only open 4 days a week and has a fairly large customer base, so you will almost always have to wait. I waited over 2 hours once, though I just took a nap there so it really didn’t seem that long. He also stocks a bunch of magazines(regularly updated) so that can be used to help pass time as well. He plans to retire in about another 2 years so don’t miss your chance!

Perfect! Love everything about this place — casual, clean, friendly, excellent barbers, and $ 10 cash for a regular ol’ haircut. Finally a place that doesn’t leave the bf looking like he was one razor-stroke away from being scalped. These guys know what they’re doing — 100% recommend!

I went to ray’s a few times. I noticed that my haircuts were getting worse and worse. I stopped going to ray’s because a couple of my friends were sating the same thing. I will NOT recommend Ray’s.

Recently returned from the Bay area after 13 years and 1st place I went was Ray’s. I tell all my friends visiting SLO that the barbers in the bay area on their best day couldn’t touch Ray or Paige on their worse day. They’re just plain good. If you’re looking for a barber(s) who can handle a straight razor … go to 2030 Parker St. but if you get there at a busy time you’ll need to be patient.

Amazing haircut. Helpful and friendly staff. It was a very busy day but I didn’t have to wait more than 15 minutes. Asked and listened to exactly what I wanted, and then delivered. Quick and careful cut. Cheaper than most too. Perfect.

it was my first time getting a haircut at this barber shop. i felt the barber shop ambience. the barbers are nice and friendly. you might take a while waiting for your turn but it’s worth it. they cut clean. if you’re a military personnel, this place is legit, they’ll cut your hair better than barbers on base(based on my experiences) and they charge as cheap as on base. i’ll come back here if i get on leave again.

This place was closed when I got there at 1pm on a Monday though I was clearly within their business hours.

Best time to hit up Rays is Thursday before 10am, I arrived at 9 and had no wait. Great shop for prior/active service members. He’s a rarity and sets the standards for all local barber shops.

It was my first experience at this barbershop. I came into the shop, welcomed by both of the barbers. I sat down and was enthralled by all of the posters and photos they have around. I only waited for about 30 minutes, but I didn’t mind since I noticed the barbers were really focusing their attention to detail. My haircut came next. It was efficient and precisely what I was looking for. Men get a shave with a razor and a towel! That was a first for me and I have to say it was pretty darn nice. I would definitely go to this place again.

Great hair cut at an unbelievable price. Old school barber that you don’t find very often any more who knows how to use a straight razor. Ray has been cutting hair for over 53 years and still going strong.

«Those people don’t know what they are talking about.» — Ray’s response when asked about all of the positive Unilocal reviews he has received. This response set the tone of my experience at this community-oriented barber shop. During my cut, Ray pointed out political posters, quotes, personal photos, and statements that his customers had donated which line the walls of the shop. These contributions show the loyalty to this barber shop from the local community. The cut only cost $ 10 for a pretty detailed look. I would highly recommend this authentic barber shop for its atmosphere, quality, and price.

True barber! Ray is the man for a good razor fade. I travel alot and i get my hair cut everyweek to stay fresh. Stopping in SLO was alittle nerve racking because barbers a scares the way it is in this day in age. Once i found Ray’s i took a chance. This guy is old fashion and has alot of experience. You wont regret coming here. Razor fade = $ 14.00 plus tip No credit card! Bring cash!

So today I finally decided to find a barber shop in town, as Im not heading home for another few weeks. I found Ray’s on Unilocal, and it sounded like just the kind of place I was looking for. When I got there, I knew I had chosen the right place. There were 5 or 6 regulars sitting around chatting, the walls were covered with old photos and signs, and it looked exactly how a barber shop should. Ray was friendly and professional, and did an amazing job. I couldn’t be happier with his work and for $ 10, I think I’ve found my new place to get my hair cut.
