After a family hike this was the logical choice for dinner. It’s in a nice neighborhood, it’s a popular chain, and I’m familiar with their product. Made too much sense. We ordered burritos and kids meals. For some reason this places used soggy fries over real potatoes in their burritos. The UTC location used real potato. Their burritos also needed more flavor. You definitely need to use their salsa bar. The good news was they have a killer green salsa — You come here because of the location and the assumption that you wont get sick from the food. — Bang! Available with free refills.

This place just opened near our house and is now officially the closest taco shop to us. I was hoping it was good — and it was! They offer monster burritos that make two meals and make a mean bean/rice/cheese burrito(the measuring stick by which I measure all Mexican food restaurants — if you can’t get the basics right then what hope is there?) My only suggestion would be for them to give you sauces so you don’t forget to bring them home from their sauce bar.

I felt motivated to write this review as a reminder to myself not to come back. I don’t(usually), scratch that, always, write reviews out of spite, but I am going to preface this by saying I did not receive bad service here. In fact, my server/cashier experience has been fine. My biggest problem is with the food itself. It took me my third trip here for me to realize it, but after trying the carnitas Cali Burrito and rolled tacos, I have to say that the food is extremely bland and not up to par with any competing taco joints in the surrounding area. I can’t speak to other Los Primos restaurants since maybe they have better cooks. Apparently other reviewers on here don’t like their cook here as well, but in my opinion, it’s pretty difficult to fail at cooking basic carnitas ingredients or adding a little flavor to food. For the ambience and price, it isn’t horrible. There are a few TV’s, a bar area, and the restaurant is clean. I’m assuming the original layout was meant for a busy crowd, but this place seems to usually be empty. Maybe someone else can speak better about this place, but I don’t think I’ll be coming back. For anyone wondering why I came here 3 times, my first two experiences were pretty awesome. I was starving and was looking for as much food as I could possibly manage to get away with. That being said, when you’re THAT hungry, you’d probably eat a man-sausage burrito covered in man-sauce. Just saying…

This Los Primos location is near Cal State San Marcos and is usually not busy probably because the visibility from the street is not the best. What is really good is the ambiance of this location, as well as the friendliness of the staff. The Monster Burrito is quite good.

This just opened in a new corner plaza near CSU San Marcos. This is pretty standard Mexican joint – pretty much like any other Mexican place within a 3 mile radius. Two things it does a bit differently – the meat in the carne asada and adobada runs a bit bland, it could use whatever lime or chili other restaurants use to pump it up a bit. The restaurant itself is a lot cleaner and lounge worthy than most – it has 3 flat screen TVs, as well as awesome SD oriented décor. Will be coming back because of it’s great location, but it’s not a place I’d bring out of towners to.

The Adobada burrito was pretty good and the cashier was friendly, but I would like to see how they perform during a lunch rush.
