Traveling with the family to San Marcos. In between events I Unilocaled us a place to relax with delicious coffee. Parking is limited so plan accordingly. They can make anything and had great tasting decaf items and an awesome frozen hot chocolate for the kids…

I love coming to Mochas and Javas! The coffee is delicious, the food is always freshly made and really good(great selection for a coffee shop, too!) and the baristas have always been smiley, helpful, and friendly. The only thing is it’s a little on the pricey side — a small white chocolate mocha is $ 4.01. Everywhere else in town, I pay no more than $ 3.50. BUT, if you’re wanting the convenience of being within walking distance of campus and getting amazing coffee, it’s worth the extra money!

The secret is out on this popular homegrown favorite. You can always count on them serving up consistently great brews, deli-style sandwiches, salads, breakfast fare and tasty baked goods– most with a boutique twist that makes for a unique experience and hearty treat. Thanks to high standards and smart staffing, it’s clear why this local and university tradition is taking off. The owners live up to the mission statement on their site with determined dedication and follow-thru– in providing«natural and organic products(at every opportunity)». And it really shows in the flavor and quality of the servings which also include some of the best gluten-free baked options around. It’s not hard to stumble on to M&J’s if you’re new to San Marcos but I still would like to see more locations. It’s appeal may not immediately hit you over the head but as time goes on, I for one, find myself going there more and more.

Excelente lugar para escaparte por un café a mitad de un día de clases. Aún en verano y con mucho calor, Texas State University tiene los salones muy MUY fríos y es delicioso ir por un café o té. Los sandwiches y burritos son muy buenos. Excelente trato.

Good and bad. I found the mocha way too sweet and the atmosphere a little loud(both the music and general noise level), but it was clean and the staff was very friendly. As someone who goes to cafes to study I probably won’t come back but it wasn’t terrible. Maybe a better place to meet a friend for lunch.

Alright, calm down. It’s just coffee. And a little bit of food. And free wifi. And plenty of tables to study at. I’m no undergrad, I’m wayyy past that age, but as a grad student who needs coffee every few hours to walk a few steps, I know how important it is to have a good coffee spot that also doubles as a «study» spot and a lunch/dinner spot. This isn’t your local Starbucks, so the drinks are actually slightly more expensive. As a fan of iced coffee, I have a problem and here’s why. It’s good that this place has hot brews. But their only«iced» option is the iced toddy, which is their least caffeinated. To pay $ 2.30 for a regular iced coffee that I can get elsewhere for $ 1.80 seems a bit much. Their brews are good, no doubts there. But adding ice to a hot brew just makes it seem weird. I like to choose what roast I want on my iced coffee, thanks much. There’s plenty of seating, and even a large table for group type seating. The place is a little dark and dingy — like an old library. If you read books the old fashioned way, bring a light. They do offer paninis and wraps, and I did spot a couple of vegetarian options there. Their hours of operation vary by season, which I’m sure the undergrads of Texas state are more aware of than I. I wouldn’t go out of my way to come here, but I can make do as long as I have to visit the San Marcos campus.

I absolutely love this coffee shop! They have a great special; $ 7 for a sandwich and endless tea, which is super great for studying.

The food is so good ! I had the breakfast egg sandwich with avocado and it was the best!!! I also had the chicken salad salad and it was amazing. Healthy and filling. They are always nice too.

Not bad. Chill environment. Drinks are priced the same as any coffee shop. And the atmosphere seems to be different from location to location(I think there are only two). Anyway, one place is college kids studying, the other is older people enjoying coffee and doing business.

Favorite coffee shop in San Marcos, and I’ve been to them all. The owner is there working all the time and he’s super friendly. I am an Americano drinker, and their espresso does not disappoint! I tried the gluten free chocolate chip pumpkin muffin today and the texture and flavor were amazing. They also let my friends and I host a fundraiser here a few years back — just genuinely nice people! I’ll always be happy to support this local business.

This is a seriously cool coffee shop. Starbucks who? I am totally hooked on the dark cherry chocolate mocha. I have had the gluten-free muffins that keep me coming back. The couches are comfy and the staff is super friendly. I need to try the lunch items. The quinoa sounds intriguing. I really like the way they incorporate the holidays with their menu.

They have Buddha’s Brew. Everything is great, without the hipster uncomfortably trendy tables or loud music like at Tantras. Lots and lots of room, great place to study early before an exam or a cliché first date.

I was hoping the matcha green tea latte would taste better than the starbucks on campus, however I felt like it wasn’t sweet enough and was watered down. The price was surprising more than the Starbucks on campus with smaller cup which was«large». Then place has a nice homey feel to it.

So I’ve discovered this place in recent weeks and I must say I am a fan. I’m going to render the awesome down into smaller bite size greatness for ease of consumption. First off, the coffee is amazing. I’m usually not a straight up coffee drinker, but they somehow have managed to get their roast just right. Not too bitter or bland. I usually order the Red Eye(coffee with an espresso shot thrown in), but I’ve had their Iced Toddy on particularly hot days. Overall it tastes as if it was dripped down the backs of fairy queens. Prices feel cheaper too! The atmosphere is quite pleasant. Dark, calm colors with music that isn’t obnoxiously loud. I haven’t been there during a peak time, but the place has ample seating(especially compared with some of the other coffee joints in town). It all says«Sit down, take it slow, enjoy a cup.» They have a small lounge in the back too with some art prints on display and couches. Wifi is free and hassle free. Service is good. No one stands around slack jawed when you enter, forcing you wait for them to acknowledge your presence. I’ve usually had my order in hand within about three minutes. Again, I haven’t been during a peak time, but it still beats the local Starbucks by far. Parking does kinda blow, but this is mostly due to the construction going on around them so they aren’t to blame. It is located across from Texas state so I enjoy lingering here until just before class and being there about two minutes later. In summary: If you like a good coffee and a place that invites you to enjoy it, check this place out.

Man this place has changed quite a bit since my college days *cough*cough* years ago… We stopped in for a quick caffeine boost for the rest of our drive back home. The lady at the counter was very friendly and quick. We both ordered Chai Lattes with Soy Milk. This is usually drink of choice at that other big coffee place that has a green lady on the cup. I noticed that they expanded their menu. They had a small selection of sandwiches. They even have a couple bottles of Buddah’s Brew Kombucha. That was pretty impressive. There’s lots of sitting available and free wi-fi. It’s a good place for your hot cup of joe and get some studying done. Lord knows I spent lots of hours there back in the day. I’m glad that this place is still doing really well.

This place is just great. They have vegetarian and gluten free options! I had a gluten free pumpkin chocolate chip muffin the other day which was tasty, but might be disappointing if you can eat regular muffins. The gluten free bread though? SOGOOD! Guys, it didn’t fall apart when It was busy holding a ton of veggies in place. That’s basically unheard of for GF bread! The Jones sandwich was flavorful with fresh pesto. I had the chai last week which was also good. I haven’t had coffee here yet though. But why come here if you aren’t looking for GF options? The people are very nice and the atmosphere is welcoming. There is art in the back by a local artist too! Come check this place out =).

This is my favorite place to go to study. It plays good music and it has a normal college atmosphere instead of the hipster/hippie atmosphere of almost all the other coffee places in town. And they actually have tables that aren’t awful. But the coffee is only okay.

Great place for hanging out and studying!!! Local business, close to Texas State University campus!!! 3 locations… I like the North LBJ location… the coffee and tea and frapps flow each day, with fantastic and friendly baristas!!! If you are hungry for lunch, they serve great sandwiches, on bread, in lettuce wraps, or as a salad!!! Come visit San Marcos, you just might love it… and stay!!!

Cool spot! Decent lunch & typical pricing. BECAREFUL when you order the 100% natural green tea! It is not a «tea» in the conventional use of the words! It is thicker, very GREEN, and HAS somewhat similar of a texture and taste to wheatgrass.
