Both times that I have gone, the service and food were impeccable. We barely had to wait to get a table, but keep in mind, these were weekdays so most people are at work. Sit outside! The fresh air and the sun feels great! People even sat outside when there was(light) rain. The staff will turn on their heaters to ward off the cold. Get the crème brûlée French toast. It’s the perfect texture and soft. It doesn’t taste or look soggy. Definitely recommend it if you are into sweets. The knife slices right into the toast perfectly without leaving those lingering bread bits. Sharing might also be a good idea if you want to try other things too! The chilaquiles were great, I felt they were a healthier version in comparison to other restaurants. Give it a try, you won’t be disappointed if you’re craving something savory. Overall, this has become one of my few favorite places. The restaurant is cute and decorated for the holidays!

This is an awesome lunch spot in the San Marino area. The food is consistently great every time I have been here over the years. My personal favorites are the Chicken Apricot Salad, the Steak Cobb Salad, and the Truffle Oil Egg Salad Sandwich.(I usually get the half and half and alternate which two dishes I feel like having that day). All three unique lunch-ish dishes you probably won’t find at other restaurants. Lastly their rosemary raisin bread is awesome. Ask for more as you wait for your food! Parking may be tough, but just be patient. This place is usually quite busy and there may be a wait during peak lunch hours, but as long as it’s decent weather outside, it’s a relatively pleasant place to stand around and wait if you aren’t pressed for time.

I don’t understand the high ratings here. I guess this area just doesn’t have that many options for breakfast so everyone tends to just come here for brunch on the weekends? It’s a really old looking restaurant with uncomfy seating. I don’t even think it’s cute or romantic. It’s just old and dirty looking. The breakfast and lunch menu is straight up plain Jane basic, priced reasonably for San Marino standards lol. Nothing innovative, nothing special. I’ve been here twice out of convenience but it definitely isn’t on my list of places to frequent for breakfast or brunch. There are many better places if I just head to silver lake or eagle rock. Again I don’t understand the ratings but chacun a son gout.

great food & great service. Long wait on weekends and quick seating early in the morning. Great ambiance and plenty of street parking! Their espresso cookie is a must!

I don’t typically like New American, semi-French type cuisine. This place seems to strike a chord with me, though. Something about how I never have to enter a building to be served a semi-Fancy lunch is kind of nice. While nothing I’ve had has become a must-have, I’ve enjoyed most everything I’ve tried. I think their menu also changes a bit from time to time, so you may not even find the same things on the menu anymore. The steak sandwich was one that really solidified my liking to this place, though. It was just a great quality medium-rare steak combined with the perfect amount of arugula and crispy fries. I wouldn’t even consider that fancy, but it felt fancy. The only two problems I have with this place is the parking situation and that it’s all just a bit too pricey. Despite that, I’d come back, especially with a date or someone you just need a nice quiet lunch with.

There aren’t a lot of breakfast/brunch places around in San Marino such as Julienne. I fell in love with this place right when my friend and I walked in to get a table. The staff is warm and friendly. We asked to be moved to another table, and though the both outside and inside seating were packed, they made arrangements for us to get the table we wanted. We went on a weekday and it felt like a weekend because like I said, the place was packed. My sister went here too on a weekday, and she said it was busy as well. This place is very classy and can be pretty expensive, but you definitely get what you pay for. My friend ordered the Smoked Salmon Open Faced Sandwich. Salmon was plump and fresh. So delicious. I got the Rosemary Currant Bread Pudding French Toast with Fresh Peach Sauce. This is so good. Every bite counts. Don’t be deceived with their portions. They’re pretty good sized. Took awhile for me to finish my meal. They also have a mini market right next to their restaurant, where they sell imported products from Europe, to-go salads, and pastries. If you’re looking for a breakfast or brunch treat with the girls, this is the place for you.

My first experience was okay. THEAMBIANCE: Julienne is a pretty, French-inspired café. I went to lunch with a friend and we were seated in the front patio. It was a nice day out. I did not go inside the restaurant so I cannot comment on the inside decoration/ambiance or its bathroom. Mission Ave. is not very busy in this area so it was quiet outside. The tables are made out of stone, possibly marble. THEFOOD: Julienne started our lunch with raisin bread and butter. The bread was really good. I ordered the half sandwich and soup lunch special and for my sandwich I had the roasted lamb with caramelized onions, avocado, and tomato on Ciabatta and a cup of the French onion soup with Gruyère croûton. I thought the sandwich was good. In regards to the soup, maybe I’m not a French onion soup girl after all. I ended up eating the cheese on top and pushing my spoon down to get the broth while only having a little of the onion in the soup, which was a lot. It was basically cooked onion and barely any broth once the cheese was gone. I would not order the soup here again but might give it one more shot elsewhere. For dessert we tried the cheesecake, which came out looking like it was ready for a hot date; gorgeous. It was smothered in fruit compote with a pretty mint leaf on top. It was good. I would come back to Julienne and try something different for lunch. I came here for lunch since it’s near Pasadena and didn’t realize how cute this small neighborhood is. It seriously feels like you’re in a different state. Staff was extremely friendly and attentive. Hubby and I both got sandwiches as our entrees and they were very fulfilling(huge). This restaurant is not modern at all but it gives you that warmth family restaurant feeling. Haven’t had dinner here yet but I do want to come back to try their dinner options.

The bread here is so yummy!!! That’s all I want to come back for! :) I had the half salad and Half sandwich for lunch on a random Wednesday(Veterans Day). I had to wait a good hour, but I made most of my time by hanging out at their little gift shop next door. I order the spinach salad with the chicken tarragon sandwich. I also ordered the pumpkin spice cheese cake! It was to die for. This place is really pricey so make sure you come with a fat wallet. It was about $ 20-$ 25 per person.

Moderately fancy Mexican-influenced breakfast in the usual San Marino environment– quite nice if you like that sort of atmosphere. Mostly outdoor seating, as befits the Southern California environment pretty much year-round, and fairly decent service. The crème brûlée brick french toast is quite good, although we actually found the strawberry sauce a bit too sweet and the center is a bit too soft. Hard to fault given the difficulty of cooking a brick of toast. The chilaquiles were just cripsy and crunchy enough to be delicious, while the potato pancakes were light(yet not actually light) and tasty, complete with fresh pico de gallo and guacamole. If you can handle the pretense it’s a solid 4 stars, even if you can’t the pretense isn’t too horrible– the food may not be worth multiple visits, but it is definitely worth a visit.

This place definitely lives up to the hype. I came here on a Saturday during lunch time with my best friend and my boyfriend. We ordered the Crème Bruelee french toast, bittersweet waffles, and salmon hash to share. All three of us agreed that the french toast was excellent and definitely was very unique. It’s more like bread pudding than french toast but as long as it’s good I’m not complaining. My favorite though, was definitely the salmon hash. It was very flavorful and the combination of salmon and scrambled eggs surprisingly worked very well together. All three of us’ least favorite was the waffles. It was so unoriginal and nothing special. It tasted like any other waffles you can get and certainly isn’t worth your money. Despite that, it’s still a great brunch place to just chill and hang out with friends. Especially when they have seating outside in a nice neighborhood.

Came in after hearing great things about this place for breakfast/brunch. The outside and interior are vintage in appearance, which should have warned me about the higher prices here(~15 for any breakfast meal). The food here was excellent though overall, especially for their popular Crème Brûlée French Toast. Probably my favorite French toast I have ever tried, it is warm And melts in your mouth. They also have free bread and jam in the beginning which was also good. The one dish we tried that fell below the mark was their Green Omelette. It was a little too healthy, with more vegetables than eggs(3:1 ratio) and the flavor depended highly on the cheese on top. Would definitely recommend this place for their Crème brûlée French toast. Hard to justify the prices for their other dishes though, so don’t stray off their most popular dish!

Service and food was practically flawless today. We enjoyed a relaxed and unrushed breakfast here. Out of my many visits over the years this was one of my more memorable ones. We ordered: green omelette-5 stars, served with fruit or rosemary roasted red potatoes and rosemary toast spinach crusted quiche-4 stars, served with fruit or rosemary roasted red potatoes and rosemary toast scone with lemon curd crème –5 stars. Fabulous. The food ranges from 4 to 5 stars, but the atmosphere and service is what just pushes it over the edge for me.

I’ve wanted to try this place for a while now, and finally got a chance to come here with my family! However, I have to say that I was a bit disappointed. We came at around 10:30AM because we thought there would be a long wait, but there was only a 10 minute wait. The tables are a bit small here, so it wasn’t too comfortable. We ended up ordering the bittersweet chocolate waffles, crème brûlée french toast, and the egg white scramble. I was worried that the french toast was going to be super sweet, but it wasn’t! And I usually like food that’s not too sweet too. However, I wasn’t too impressed with it. I liked the texture, but I didn’t find the dish to be amazing and the flavors didn’t wow me. The waffles my brother got also weren’t that sweet, and it was topped with fresh fruits. Again, it was good, but not amazing. The egg white scramble was mediocre at best. Overall, I thought this place was okay. The service was pretty good, but I thought the food could be a lot better for what you’re paying for. The bill was about $ 80 for 4 people, so it’s one of the pricier brunch places. I don’t think I’ll be back, but at least now I can say I’ve tried their crème brûlée french toast!

I’ve been wanting to try this place for so long because of the great reviews, I’ve jus been too lazy to drive all the way to San Marino :(Well, I finally came here with my boyfriend for lunch on a Thursday afternoon. Their breakfast hours are 7 – 10:45am … God that’s too early! After 11am is lunch time. They also have brunch on Saturdays from 730am-330pm There were a lot of people here; mostly old & middle aged Caucasian women who probably have kids who go to school and husbands who work all day. Not judging, in fact, I envy them! I hope to one day have the privilege of eating brunch with my girlfriends on the weekdays. Dress nicely or wear a spring/summer dress, otherwise these ladies will give you an uncomfortable glare. I came in like white shorts and a shirt and felt so out of place. Food here was pretty good but kind of overpriced. I kind of figured it was going to be though since its in San Marino. I did love the free bread they give out though, it’s a raisin toast with some kind of herb in it. It was delicious and I’ve never seen that kind of bread given for free at a restaurant before. Arugula salad($ 12.50): forsure recommend this dish because I love arugula. Their vinaigrette was perfect and the cheese and almonds went great with the arugula. Simple omelette($ 14.50) with herbs and gruyère cheese inside. They have a small salad and fingerling potatoes on the plate as well. I’ve never had an omelette with that many herbs in it and I surprisingly liked it. I didn’t loveeee it though, because I normally like omelettes that have mushrooms and spinach in it. This was a little bit different and it wasn’t bad at all. Would I pay $ 15 for it? Not really, the omelette was small, not as big as the ones I get at Denny’s. Turkey sandwich($ 12.50): my boyfriend said this dish was very dry. Just don’t get it lol didn’t look too appetizing. New York Cheesecake(around $ 8.50): yummy! I loved how it was semi frozen when it came out. They also have caramel sauce drenched over it with a strawberry and some craisins sprinkled on it. I loved the texture, but the crust of the cheesecake wasn’t as crunchy or buttery as other cheesecakes I’ve tried. I love the way they display their desserts. Instead of giving you a menu, they bring out a whole tray of desserts so you see how delicious they look in person. That’s how they get you though, especially the people with a sweet tooth like me. Very very smart! I really want to come back to try their breakfast menu if I wake up that early :(But forsure I want to try their crème brûlée French toast!

I have been dying to come to Julienne for years and I finally went today for lunch! Note that the restaurant is not open on Sundays — even though Sundays are the perfect days for brunch. I have seen so many pictures posted of the Crème Brulee French Toast and that is what I got. Honestly, before I got it, I already knew it was going to be too sweet. I think it fits more as a dessert than an entrée. The strawberry sauce was REALLY good and not to sweet. The french toast is good but a lot of it got too soggy. I think this is a great dish to share between 4 – 5 people, but for one person to eat the whole thing, it is too much. But OMG the seafood pasta was AMAZING. It came with pieces of salmon and perfectly grilled shrimp. The pasta itself was very good and the sauce was REALLY creamy but not overwhelming. Usually, I am not a fan of white sauce, but this one was really good. The portion was perfect too. The service was great and they gave us a refill on the amazing rosemary currant bread! My other favorite thing about this place is the outdoor seating so I was able to bring my dog with me. He loved the rosemary bread as well! :) Overall, a great place for lunch! I want to try the lamb sandwich next time!

Totally fou-fou San Marino spot but good none the less. With ample outdoor seating it’s easy to see why this place is a San Marino favorite. I like coming here for breakfast/brunch as the options are good and more inline with items I wouldn’t want to make at home. Attached to the restaurant is a great store where you can pick up food to go — sandwiches, soups, a few frozen(make at home) selections, etc as well as bakery items. Cons: It can get crowded so you’ll likely have to wait for a table. Parking can be a pain because the lot is pretty small. Aside from that, this is a great choice & one of San Marino’s most beloved restaurants.
