Bob Reed’s Auto Service

Although I am yet to bring a car here for repair, I did get a chance to stop by the shop one day on my way to work and was pleasantly surprised to see a service station with that old-​time quality appeal. I was not turned down to use the restroom even though I was just walking by. Great to know that you can still find courteous service for your auto needs.

Excellent and caring service at very reasonable price.

Really nice guy. Tow truck driver recommended him after i needed a jump. He diagnosed the problem, located a new battery for me and arranged for my service at mike harvey honda. Didn’t charge me anything even though i offered because he didnt have the battery. A+. Going back for sure.

The convenience of the place gets me every time, seriously. They may not have the cheapest gas prices in town, but they are reasonable, considering it’s a small, individually owned business.
My boyfriend’s had some work done there, and the employees were friendly and professional.
Honestly, I’d rather pay a few extra bucks at this place, than save a few at some unfriendly, unclean corporation.

Bob is a very friendly person. Since he is an extrovert he can talk your ear off sometimes :) but lately he hasn’t been doing that. It’s nice to be greeted and helped. The gas price is not always the cheapest but it is competitive. We take our cars there, so far so good.

My wife’s prius had a slow leak in a tire requiring air to be put in every 2 weeks then down to every few days. Based on Unilocal reviews called bob, and he said to drop by and he’d take a look.
As I pulled up, he not only picked the car out but had us pull it up to the garage. He took the tire off and spotted the pencil tip size of a mail embedded in the tire. He proceeded to work on it right away and was done on 15 minutes!

If you’re searching for a mechanic that puts you first, there is no man better than Bob. Bob went above and beyond for me when it came to service and I cannot recommend him enough. I took my car in to get my battery and alternator replaced and he was clear with the pricing breakdown + flexible with pickup hours. I was already going to give him 5 stars at this point but what happened afterwards wish I could give him 6.
Shortly after we left, we stopped our car at a BART station and it wouldn’t start again. Having no clue what to do, we called Bob who drove out to help us at 9pm at night. He tried to jump start then called us a tow truck with his special rate and stayed with us until our car arrived at the dealership, all because we weren’t sure at that time what caused the incident. It turned out it had nothing to do with Bob, but the whole event proved that Bob truly has a heart of gold.

This place is great. I’ve been looking for a reliable, honest mechanic and Jimmy Reed is IT! He took my van today because it was making a strange, scraping sound when I drove it over 40 MPH. Jimmy had the van all morning, had it up on the rack examining everything, including the brakes, he lubed the car and he took it for a test drive. He called me twice during the morning to update me about what he was finding. AND, when I went to pick it up, there was NO CHARGE. He said he had found nothing wrong so he would not charge me. How’s that for integrity? The place was recommended by a friend who’s gone there for years. I want to add my recommendation to the list.

The lowering mechanism on the window of my truck decided to break on a Saturday afternoon. I checked Unilocal and saw Bob Reed’s auto service was open and gave him a call. Bob said he couldn’t fix the window but he’d probably be able to help me get it up until I could take it to Atlas Glass for repair. I got the truck over there, and it turns out the electric window was more broken than I realized. Anyway, he offered to let me park the truck in his garage for the weekend so it wouldn’t get broken into and also charged the battery, since it was dead. He did this for such a minimal cost that I was flabbergasted ($ 10). Aren’t you usually charged at least $ 75 just do drive on the lot and talk with someone? When I went to pick my car up early Monday morning and take it to Atlas, Bob had already called over and explained the problem to them and they were expecting me. I was really impressed by such stellar service, and he was extremely nice and helpful with my problem. I need a tune up my car and you can be sure I found a new shop to take it to. What a find! I thought old-​school customer service was a thing of the past, but Bob Reed’s proved me wrong!

We had a flat and pulled over to the closest auto service. Thank goodness we found Bob Reed’s Auto Service!
Took about 10 – 15 minutes to change the flat and cost half the price at the dealership.
It was super fast and really nice people.

Father & son business whom are both very honest and friendly. Our car was burning oil, so I took it to Bob’s Auto Service. The son popped the hood and figured out the issue right away (my oil cap was missing and oil was leaking onto the engine). He looked around for the cap, but was unable to find it, so he ordered me a new one. It came within 20 minutes. Once it arrived he cleaned up my engine where the oil had spilled, topped me off with more oil and got me back on the road within 25 minutes. Great service!

I’m sure we’ve all found ourselves running on empty and without spare time to boot… this was unfortunately the situation I found myself today.
The pump outside wasn’t taking my card, so I had to go inside and take care of things. I specifically requested to pre-​pay $ 13, or about 3 gallons worth. I just needed enough gas to get to school and was going to use my gasbuddy app to get a better deal for a full fill-​up elsewhere. «Bob», the cashier, seemed nice enough, very old school, but when I checked my receipt, it said $ 15 charged. I know, not a big difference whatsoever and it’s the principle of it all that I write this review. But when I mentioned that I had requested $ 13 for pre-​pay and not $ 15, I was at least expecting a small apology of sorts for his «mistake”/oversight.
His response was «Oh well, you’re gettin’ $ 15» in a flat, domineering tone, totally serious. Not cool. At first I thought he was joking and would bounce back with something lighthearted… but no, he was completely poker faced and made zero apologies. What IF I was totally counting my pennies like a struggling, single mom with a couple of kids and had JUST enough $ in the bank account to cover $ 13 and NOT $ 15 bucks of gas??? She would get dinged almost $ 40 in overdraft fees, that’s what would happen… for TWO dollars… FYI, IT’S MY MONEY, NOT yours, Bob. Like my bank teller recently mentioned to me, a dollar is a dollar and every penny matters, especially if it belongs to you. Thankfully, I am not in a struggling position like said person above, but I still worry about the attitude of this place…
*I sincerely hate to say this, but I WILL NOT be going back to this place, for gas or general car service nor would I ever recommend.

Great service, been going there for about four years now since we live in the neighborhood. I take our cars there for maintenance and repairs, and Bob is almost honest & helpful. I would recommend this place to anyone.
Bob has lived in this neighborhood for 30 years, and is a staple in our neighborhood. At first when we moved here in 2008, I thought it was weird to have a gas station so close in residential. But soon I found out how cool he is. The wall behind the front door has pictures of his family, and that makes me feel like I’m being taken care of. He cares about his clients and it shows.

It’s not a corporate assembly line shop with minimum wage «mechanics», it’s a family business that understands treating customers well, and giving them good value.

I’ve come here many times for oil changes and simple tire repairs but I recently brought in my Pontiac Vibe as my window was not rolling down all the way. They repaired my window within one day and only charged me $ 40! If I went anywhere else I would have been charged well over $ 150 and probably asked to replace everything.

Old fashioned customer service. Gas prices very reasonable and automated pumps open 24 hours. We use Bob Reed’s for our company vehicle maintenance and we have had very few «go-​backs.» I recommend them highly.

I came here for my fix of high octane racing fuel… They sent me home with jet fuel!!! I purchased 1 Gallon of 110 Octane fuel for $ 8.63. You can only buy it by the gallon here though. I was looking for 1.75 so I could still mix some oil in. Friendly people work here!

You can trust Bob and sons to take care of all your auto needs. They will never nickle and dime you. I go to Bob Reed’s for everything unless I need the scanner they use for Mercedes, for that I go to MB garage.
I have referred many people to Bob Reed’s and he has become their go to guy.

Gearheads beware! There is something above 91 Octane available here!
California, being the police state that it is (as well as being pretty rambunctious with the taxation) has made it very difficult to find gas above 91 octane. We USED to get 92 octane, but the CARB (California Air Resource Board) in its infinite wisdom decides to have a special California blend of fuel, which in addition to the taxation (rambunctious), has made us the laughing stock of all other gearheads across the nation, while totally siphoning our wallets. 92 octane at this date of posting would probably cost us $ 5 a gallon. The other gearheads get 92 or even 94. And they get it everywhere. And much cheaper. Enter Bob Reed’s.
There are FOUR high octane choices available, two Leaded and two Unleaded (fit for public highway use.) What do you care about high octane, you ask? Well to most plebians in the population, it’s more expensive, and it wouldn’t benefit a lot of cars out there. But if you’re any sort of self-​respecting car person, you’ve probably read this far. High-​octane allows your engine to run a higher compression. Meaning more power. More efficient use of your gas which means better mileage, which I’ll let you google for an explanation. And actually, a lot more mid and high-​end cars these days require premium unleaded only.
The problem is, what’s premium unleaded where these cars are manufactured, either in Japan, da Vaterland, or even in Detroit, is around ~94 octane. What happens when you infuse your gas-​tank with the California-​blended piss water we call 91 octane? Decreased performance. Yeah, your car adjusts to the lesser fuel, so knock off possibly 20 or so horsepower from what you thought you bought.
So you think you can go faster and get better mileage in your highly expensive street machine? Well, run your tire pressures at the proper level, get a tune up if you’re overdue and get some higher octane gas for your car that runs premium unleaded. They can take care of all that stuff at Bob Reed’s. And make sure to bring some gas cans, as they sell the good stuff out of the drums.
