I & T’s Tailoring

I called Ibrahim to see if he could complete alterations (hemming pants and taking in of the waist) by Saturday morning. It was early afternoon Thursday. He said yes if I could bring it in that day. It was ready by 2pm Saturday.
He was very kind and recommended a few other alterations on my jacket as well. I picked up my suit on Saturday and everything looked great.
I give him much credit for getting my selfie game strong. Haha.

Masterful work. Brought Abraham a slightly oversized sport coat and he made it fit beautifully. As he said, tailoring is mathematics. Clearly talented and precise and well worth a premium price

Don’t waste your time or risk your clothing. At $ 35 a shirt for shitty work, don’t waste your money either — this tailor is no master. Out of the 20 shirts I brought him, three were completely ruined, 12 had to be brought back again to be finished (yep, unfinished, with marking pins, folds and all in some cases). Only some came out exactly right and only four of the twenty came back correct the first time.
This tailor does not listen. He wants to give you HIS interpretation of what you want and then try convince you the mistakes or lack of service that you had paid for are in your best interest. For instance, one shirt was tailored perfectly on the trunk but not enough on the sleeves, if at all as paid for. I brought it back to have the sleeves corrected and they tightened the trunk instead, to where it now fits skin tight — and the sleeves were never touched. He wanted to convince me this was good yet several shirts came back *with no tailoring on the trunk*, draping like curtains, and he tried to convince me that those «alterations» were good in the same manner of explanation.
I repeat, 3 of my 20 shirts were RUINED. The shirts I brought were Bugatchi, Haupt, and Jhane Barnes — all retailing between $ 160 and $ 300 a shirt — and he will tell you he’s sick and tired of trying to correct his mistakes if you don’t like it the way HE DOES IT, whether any work was actually done OR NOT. The cost of my transaction with Ibrahim was about $ 770, plus the retail value of the high-​end shirts he ruined, which was approximately $ 500. It was a very expensive mistake to come to I&T Tailoring.

Came here to get a set of pants hemmed and it took 1 week to complete the job. Nice people but they’re just too slow for my taste. Also a bit pricey.

The master is quite good — but his services may get pricy. I found a cheaper tailor eventually, but only for simple jobs. When I need art, I come here. My mother, herself a tailor, praised the work he did for me.

I was disappointed with my experience at I&T. I was having him hem 4 pairs of pants. One was a pair of jeans, where he said he would keep the original hem, and when I picked them up, I was certain this had not been done. I had owned the pants for a while before this, so the original hem had some wear to it, and the pants hem now looks like brand new denim. I raised this concern with him and he argued with me that it had been done, ignoring my concerns, and he charged me for the extra amount anyway (retaining the original hem costs more). Another pair of pants we agreed when he marked them originally they would touch the floor behind my heel, but when i put them on, they stopped a good inch above the floor. Moreover, the stitching lines for the hem on several of the pairs of pants were not straight. I’m not sure if his skill has gone downhill or if he had someone new do this work, but regardless he is not good at listening to the customer and insists he is right when the customer raises a concern. I saw some of these characteristics in reviews left from others so I was prepared for his demeanor, I was surprised at the low and inconsistent quality of the work. I will not be going back to I&T based on my experience there.

Fantastic service! Had a pair of trousers in need of repair & found this amazing place on Unilocal.I walked in expecting to leave the trousers & pick them up 2 – 3 days later. Much to my amazement, the work was finished in 30 min. And cost was much less than I anticipated. A friendly, family-​owned business I’ll gladly visit again!

There’s no doubt that Mr. Tosun is a master tailor and a perfectionist. Five stars are what i would give him for his skill. However, one star is what I would give him for custom orders, and I’ll tell you why. This is my bizarre experience:
After several alterations jobs, I decided to commission him to replicate several garments that are the foundation of my wardrobe and are wearing out. I placed an order for a pair of black wool slacks, a classic black wool skirt, and a pair of dark navy blue slacks. Because all 3 garments go with a number of designer suit jackets and I wanted to match the fabric and colors exactly, I drove to Britex Fabrics in SF and spent hours getting the finest fabric possible.
When I came to his shop to pick up the completed order, I was surprised when he told me that Britex had not given me enough black to make the pants and skirt, so he’d made a navy blue skirt instead. I was puzzled because I could have sworn that I’d had a lot more black than navy blue fabric, but then I thought maybe Britex did reverse the order. I told him that I didn’t need a navy blue skirt, that what I needed was a black skirt, as I’d originally ordered. Why didn’t he call me before changing the order? He said that he’d make a black skirt at no additional labor charge (although I had to buy the additional fabric from Britex which was an expense and a hassle).
At that point I tried on one of the pairs of pants I’d commissioned, and it fit perfectly. When I said I’d try on the other one, he said «no reason», it’s the exact same fit. the pants were wrapped in plastic, so I paid for the order and took them home. Imagine my horror when a week later, I took the other pair out, the one which I assumed was dark navy blue, and it was a second identical BLACK pair. I put both pair in a bright light, got out the original navy blue worn out slacks, and saw without the shadow of a doubt that he’d made 2 identical black pairs. No wonder he didn’t have fabric for a black skirt! Luckily I’d kept the invoice, even after paying the full $ 1338 for the 3 garments, and it clearly stated «Bl skirt, NB pants, Bl pants.
When I took the 2 pair back to him, he wouldn’t even discuss his mistake. He just kept saying, «no more, no more» in his broken English. He still said that he would only make me the black skirt, and that would be it. He was «no longer going to make custom orders, only do alterations.» It took me weeks to get the fabric for a second time, and I took it to him. After repeatedly calling him and asking him when it would be done, he eventually made the black skirt which I had originally commissioned. I also had to get more dark navy blue fabric from Britex and commission another tailor to make the navy blue pants which I’d originally ordered. All in all it was a major headache and ended up costing me hundreds of dollars more than originally planned. However I did find a great tailor, J’s Tailoring, also in San Mateo. She makes everything exactly as I’ve ordered, at a very reasonable price.

I went to I & T’s Tailoring after reading positive reviews on Unilocal,and I’m so glad I did! I had a new winter coat that needed to have the sleeves shortened. I was helped immediately upon arriving — they were quick to pin me up and had me back out the door in two minutes. The work took a week to finish and was beautifully done. The price felt a little high for hemming ($ 30), but they did need to deal with the lining of the coat and the work was perfect.
I should also note that when I came to pick up my coat, another customer was having a men’s suit jacket pinned and was asking for the work to be done in about 48 hours for a wedding. This seemed very unreasonable to me, but the owner of the shop was doing a great job of trying to deal with the customer’s demands politely. I was impressed with everything about I & T — I highly recommend.

EXCEPTIONAL!!! i called on a wed @ 6pm. i need the sleeves of (2) t-​shirts altered. the gentleman that answered the phone said they were closing but if i stopped by the next day they could have them ready; same day!
came in thurs around 10am and they were ready by 1:30pm AND they alterations were PERFECT — thank you I&T Tailoring!

Great service, speedy delivery — and most importantly, the people are a delight to interact with (Ibrahim). I gave them three shirts for darting and they came back nicely done. Would definitely return and recommend for any mens tailoring needs.

These people are the BEST! My daughter tore her riding pants and «HAD» to have them the next day. Not only did they do an incredible job making them look new again, when I started to pay they said not to worry just bring us your business in the future. They have my business… give them yours!!!

My favorite place to get items tailored and altered.
Being small and petite, I need to rely on a tailor so I actually have clothes to wear. Most things have to be taken in, shortened, or downright reconstructed to fit. So finding Ibraham is a godsend.
When I go to a new tailor, I usually bring a few simple items like a shortened hem, a shortened sleeve, and minor repairs to check the quality. They all turned out great with straight seams, proper stitching, and no loose threads. Then I brought more complicated items including changing the shoulder of a blazer. The results were superb! Ibraham is a great tailor, not just for simple alterations. He can handle it all!
Always make sure the estimated alterations are what you want and don’t be afraid to make adjustments to get exactly what you want. Spending a little extra time to clarify your expectations makes it easy to get exactly what you ask for. Sometimes, it takes a week or longer to get items back but if you’re in a rush, he will make accommodations. I am never in a rush, so it doesn’t matter to me, but time is important, let him know.
I&T Tailoring is one of the best shops around.

Like the rest of the people, I found Ibrahim through Unilocal as I wanted to find a good tailor close to home. I brought him a black suit and a navy sport coat, he recommended a good fit for my body. 1 week later, got my suits and it fits perfect. You get what you pay for. Also a nice guy to talk to. Will definitely bring more business to him.

Well. I tried to give these guys my business, after reading such great reviews I figured what better place to get suit measurements done? Boy was I wrong. I can’t rate the service of this place because when I called in to make an appointment it was such a disaster!
I call in looking for info on getting measurements done (appt required, cost etc) the gentlemen on the other line hung up on me before I could even get basic info. «Just come in» he said in the most broken English possible. No I don’t think ill just come in. Better phone etiquette and more professionalism would go a long way for this place.

I had the Nicest encounter with this business. They were able to accommodate my request for an extremely quick turnaround. I got my suit tailored over night! I will be a long time client

Amazing craftsmanship. Mr. Tosun has spent a long time as a tailor and it shows in his skills. I had a shirt that was purchased for me for a wedding, however it was delivered 48 hours before the date, and the size that was shipped was far too large. I took it to I&T, asking them if they could get it altered in time. He smiled and said «The wedding is in 2 days. We have no choice!» He had me try it on and quickly took all the measurements, and 32 hours later, I had a shirt that felt like it had custom made for me.
I never had a shirt that fit me so well; I’m considering doing this for the rest of my wardrobe (not as rushed as this one, of course :)). And for those who complain about the price, you must understand the nature of artisan work. This isn’t like buying a pair of Nike’s, or a burger, or a roll of paper towels. You’re purchasing the experience and critical eye of someone who has spent a lifetime at this craft. You are buying skills that most people do not possess. You are buying the insanely high rent of a shop in downtown San Mateo. If you think about it that way, twenty-​something for altering a shirt is not very much.
My advice is if you need something done by them, bring it in sooner rather than later (they’re quite busy, as you’ll see the store filled with clothing from other customers). The results, however, will be fantastic.

I’ve been going here for years. I’ve always had a great experience with exceptional results. I’m not much of a Unilocaler, but my last experience made me come post this. I took a casual blazer in that I had just purchased online. When it arrived I thought the fit was great, but long. Ibraham agreed the length was long and made the right measurements. A week later I returned to pick up a jacket that was now perfect. This was verging on artistic the way he re-​cut the angles at the bottom and the vent in the back. It did not look like anyone had touched it other then the original manufacturer.
I’ve probably had him work on over 100 pieces over the years. If you want a true knowledgeable, experienced tailor that you can trust, put yourself in his hands.

I&T is a nice little spot, and the owners are great people. However, he definitely takes an «old school» approach to men’s tailoring.
Let me start with the good. Ibraham (I think that’s how you spell his name) is a real nice guy. He seems to treat his customers with a lot of care and respect. There is no question he is a master at his craft, and his wife (?) is just as kind and friendly.
However, I’ve been disappointed by their work on several occasions. I’ve had 3 pants hemmed by him, 2 of which ended up being too short. The hem on 1 of those undid itself after the first wash! I was not happy.
I also got a black suit tailored from top to bottom. I was fairly happy with the results, but it wasn’t as «slim fit» as I’d like.
Verdict: Other than a couple of bad experiences from me, I still think he’s a great tailor, just not for my taste. For the younger hip & slim fitting generation, you might not be completely satisfied, as I&T seems to cater to the older crowd. Ibraham knows his stuff, and his knowledge is sometimes overbearing and intimidating on what you think will look good on your body type. The turnaround time for their work is reasonable, but their pricing is definitely above average.

Greatest tailors EVER! I brought in two leather jackets that were way too big for me (apparently size 0 doesn’t exist in leather goods — wtf.) so they had to fully RECONSTRUCT and essentially create custom jackets. From the time you walk in the door you realize these people mean business and are serious about what they do. I mean literally artisans! I had high hopes for my jackets but the reality exceeded the high hopes and I got back THE BEST LEATHER JACKETS I’VE EVER SEEN! They fit amazingly well, the leather was taken in properly and sewn together almost magically! Yes, this place is expensive but WOW you get what you pay for! True artisans!
