We’ve tried so many Chinese restaurants in the San Mateo area over the years and all have been lacking in every way. At the last minute last night, we decided to have Chinese food and suddenly my husband remembered a new restaurant he’d had lunch at with his co-workers and thought we’d give their dinner menu a try. We ordered online and in the special instructions section, I asked the restaurant to give me a call to let me know they received the order and what the ETA on delivery would be and they did within 5 minutes. Our food was delivered before the time frame was up and was fantastic! All fresh and tasty ingredients but not greasy at all! Generous helpings(we ordered pot stickers, crab rangoon, beef with broccoli, cashew chicken, sweet and sour shrimp, steamed rice and pork fried rice and they also sent 5 egg rolls on the house), We added pork to the egg fried rice and when the restaurant called to confirm the order, they asked if we wanted regular pork or BBQ pork so they went out of the box /off the checklist to make sure we received exactly what we wanted. The person who called us may have been the owner … very friendly and great customer service! Sounds like the person my husband mentioned at the restaurant too as the lady who’s always happy and smiling! We’ll definitely order from them again,

My husband and I go out often for Chinese food. The food here was not good. We ordered Chile Prawns. They were awful. They were deep fried in a sticky candied batter. We really could not eat them and did not even take them to go. The bbq pork chow mein was edible but not great. The noodles seemed like spaghetti pasta and there was little flavor. Not going back.

After three or four pieces the sesame chicken was so salty my mouth puckered, and I could hardly swallow it. The sweet and sour chicken was burned. The general chicken was not spicy. The website and grub hub menu didn’t give any description of the items on the menu, so we didn’t know if the meats came with rice or noodles. They do not, so if you want rice, you’ll have to order it.

It’s my first time here. I ordered Beijing duck and mapo toufu. I really like the Beijing duck.

We got a flyer on our door for this place and came home from a long trip and said why not? My husband wanted broccoli beef and I wanted chicken. Ordered both with some sides, pot stickers, egg rolls, steamed rice. My husband is pretty picky and he said this was some of the best Chinese food he’s had in a long time. The pot stickers were amazing. None of the food really needed soy sauce or chili sauce. They delivered with in the time they said and packaged everything nicely and nothing spilled. We have enough food to last us a couple nights. Not bad for the price. I would love to try their prawn and shrimp dishes.

Update. Second order was faster, however, the delivery person was rude in asking for a tip right away. Was hesitant to give the food. Gave a dollar just to get food, and he gave me a very unpleasant look. First time order and for delivery. Took about 1:15 hr to arrive. Food was lukewarm. Crab meat rangoons were mostly cream cheese, but that is common around this area. Glad the fried rice didn’t have peas. Decent flavors, overall. Not worth the long wait, however.

I’ve ordered from here twice and been impressed both times. The first time, we got a delivery order: Singapore Vermicelli, Spicy Pepper with Salt Chicken, and MaPo Tofu with Pork. Great flavor and good-sized portions(we had leftovers). They got here quickly and the food was still hot when they arrived. The second time was tonight– I walked in and ordered BBQ Chow Fun to go. Got 10% off and waited 5 minutes or less for my food, which I’m currently enjoying! This is probably going to be my go-to spot; New Kwok Wah has good food, good service, and good prices!

I liked the coziness of the place. And the servers were friendly and polite. Got the vegetable chicken lunch special. Had choice of brown rice which was very good. Didn’t care for the appetizers, though. Something like kimchee. Eggroll wasn’t good. And hot n sour soup too vinegary. But the chicken was soft and tasty. Plan to try again, but order entrée only. And want to try their Vietnamese coffee.

While it’s nice that this restaurant is inexpensive and offers lunch specials with a 10% to-go discount, I’d really rather pay more for better food. Because the chow mein didn’t come with meat, it lacked flavor. The beef side was too spicy. I would rather not have had spicy at all. The rice was mushy. The egg roll wasn’t crispy. Overall, bleh. I couldn’t finish my food. I just happened to be in the area and needed a quick bite to tide me over. Oh, on a positive note, the lady in the front greeted me nicely and seemed genuinely warm, which is atypical at Chinese places of this caliber, in my experience.

Ordered it via grub hub. But really bad food. And get this the guy even demanded a tip. The orange chicken was doughy. The rice was clumpy. There was hardly any meat. recommendation: never order or eat at this place. We just threw everything away. Also we ordered from grub hub. Will never do this again :-(

The steamed fish was delicious and the Egg Foo Yong is the best I’ve tasted in years. Service was stellar! Sophia made us feel comfortable.

After moving to this neighborhood from SF6 months ago and trying all of the Chinese Restaurants, I love this one the best. The food feels healthy and fresh, not greasy, and the owners actually work there and are a friendly family. Did I mention the prices are great? The custom in house sauces such as the sweet and sour sauce provided with some of the dishes such as deep fried prawns are out of this world!

I had a craving for Chinese food so I ordered delivery by which was to deliver an order from this restaurant. Big disappointment!!! I ordered the General’s Chicken with white meat only. It was just okay but still had dark meat. I ordered MILD but it came hot with whole peppers and pepper pieces in it. I also ordered Mu Shu Chicken. It was okay but the pancakes were stiff and dry. I ordered the combination plate and it was sooooo bad that the entire plate was tossed out. It had won tons, foil wrapped chicken, port ribs, egg rolls. All old, cold and terrible. All in all a gigantic failure.

The food is pretty average and I(used to) order from here somewhat frequently. In fact, they’re my go-to delivery place to call. The hot and sour soup lack flavor, but everything else is actually pretty good. The low rating is in regards to the service. I just ordered a delivery and the driver came to my door insisting a tip. I’m a strong believer in the fact that tips are service based. You don’t get a tip just for showing up. the fact that he rudely handed me my food, shoved a receipt in my hand and then said rudely«where’s tip?» convinced me that he didn’t deserve one. I told him I didn’t have any cash and he said again«where’s tip?» and gestured towards his open palm. I went back into my house, grabbed the two bucks that I didn’t think he deserved and handed it him. He took it, gave me a look of disgust and gestured a waving hand at me. To be sure, that is the last time I order from here — and it’s not because of the food, but rather the service. I hope the two bucks was worth it.

Great lunch here. Ordered the Spicy Chicken with Basil. Chicken was tender and plenty of veggies to fill out the entrée portion. The rice was also plentiful and more of a medley blend it seemed, but very good. I’m not a big Chinese soup guy but it was tasty as well. The egg roll was solid too. The employees were friendly and available and checked in multiple times to see how I was doing though with the open floor plan it would have been easy to get their attention at any point. Solid meal with for only $ 6.50? Well done!

While it isn’t terrible… it really isn’t good enough for us to return, either. The pot stickers had clearly been sitting out, they were wrinkled and not warm or chewy. The gai lan was good. We like the touch of sesame oil. The hot and sour was okay… neither great nor terrible. We did enjoy the tomato chow mein with bbq pork(cha su) instead of beef. The pork was good and had little fat. The place still seems run down. The service is ok. But the place just does not make u want to eat. Its kind of dingy and the tables were greasy… ick

Great Chinese food, not absurdly greasy. They will pretty much make any modifications you desire. I got the vegetable delight and added chicken just because I like more veggies. Service is good for lunch, food is made pretty quickly, and takeout is always ready when I arrive. Great place, glad it’s back!

Wow. I was a big fan of the restaurant and its previous owners. The food WAS amazing. It was like visiting my grandmother for dinner or dim sum in China town. WTF happened? They have updated the décor, which wasn’t needed, to an open seating setting. I enjoy having my private booth, I hate looking at people when I eat or have people look over at me. The food took a huge step back. It went from authentic Chinese food to the Caucasian crap you get at panda express, but I had panda express days ago and it was better than here. I ordered: Sweat and sour pork When did sweat and our pork come with pineapple? The pork wasn’t breaded and the sauce was bad. Lemon chicken The children was extremely dry and the flavor was awful. Chow mein(combination) Came out warm at best and the noodles were undercooked. broccoli beef Can’t mess this up. It was the only plate that was finished.

The places is décor is soo nice and gives such a comfortable feeling. Its like a nice hug. I could definitely use it these days. The chow fun is really good, and the fried banana mmmm.

I was actually excited to see that this place had new owners because I thought the old place was mediocre. Little did I know I would be wishing for mediocre. Orange chicken was mainly batter with little pieces of dry dark meat(?). Beef was tough. Rice and noodles were cold. The best part is the waitress gave a snarky look at our 15% tip despite them never checking on our table once, even though we were the only table in the entire restaurant. We had to wait ten minutes to get her to notice we were done with our meals. I can only hope another new owner comes through and improves this joint.

I was a regular visitor to this place before it remodeled, for its wor won ton soup. So I had to come back after it reopened to see if the soup was the same. No, it’s different. It’s the vegetables that are different, at least the night I came. Instead of broccoli and bok choy and water chestnuts and snow peas, now it has spinach and mushrooms and cabbage and carrots. But it’s still full of meats and with a fair number of won tons, and it’s still filling and delicious.
