So I left San Mateo 26 years ago and was back visiting mom and looking for a place to meet a college friend that also grew up in San Mateo. I thought about this place as my mom would sometimes take me here after mass when I was an altar boy at St. Gregs. Lo and behold it was still there and looks much the same as it did back then. Excellent food and the owner was super nice and attentive. My friend and I had a great time walking up and down the street remembering what was in which space and swapping stories about it all. Highly recommend the corned beef hash for breakfast.

Their service was very bad this morning. My order was only a banana chilled chai and a mango smoothies. I didn’t get either of them after 20 minutes! I had to leave with my thirst and hunger for other coffee shop…

Best breakfast I’ve ever had, get the breakfast burrito and add chicken apple sausage. Nailed it. Good coffee too lol that’s hard to find. We sat at the counter and the service was prompt. Thank you we will be back

A nicely intimate, very clean, local diner. Saw one FOH and one BOH. Must have come at a slow time(11am-ish on a Tuesday morning). Its a seat-yourself. Parking looked rough at this time with other stores opening up. Menu’s variety isnt what I’m used to in Hawaii but the server was very attentive and patient. Got the El Camino Real omelette. Food was VERY quick. Price range between $ 9 – 14. I must have a larger appetite than regular San Mateo people because after a week in the San Mateo county, every meal that I’ve eaten out has still left me hungry. This one included. Must repeat that these guys are very clean. You can see their sink to the back and the server washed his hands twice and BOH washed his hands once since I’ve been dining. Espresso machine is clean(I think this crowd is more of a regular coffee and tea people). Nice variety of STASH herbal teas. Many of the older customers take their time and read their newspapers, younger customers bring their laptops. One family with a toddler came in and they also keep their volume low. The younger crowd likes to meet up in here and their volume got noticeably louder. Will return if I can catch them at slow times. Will probably bring BF too. Not for groups of more than 4.

I’ve been coming here almost daily for the past month or so. I work right down the street so it’s really nice to have a good diner so close! The staff are extremely friendly and all of them remember me, even the cooks. The shop is very clean, and the food is excellent. It is however a bit small so I usually get my orders to go. My food is always hot and ready very fast which is a major plus. I will definitely continue coming here!

The corn beef hash was fine, but not brilliant. Eggs were cooked perfectly and the coffee would bring me back all by itself. Sourdough toast wasn’t very sourdoughy(if that is even a word). The staff was very friendly, top to bottom, and it was a pleasant atmosphere. Really though, nothing special, just a solid breakfast café.

Hassan is so friendly and nice. Came in here while my car was being worked on and spent a few hours working from there. The latte was awesome, and so was the oatmeal. But I never felt pressured to order much, I really appreciated that. I recommend this place!

If no stars were an option I would choose. Ignorant and uneducated denied us service because we had a service dog with us! Even after the police spoke to him. And then tried to tell me it was because his cook is allergic…(our dog is a toy poodle-hypoallergenic)

The Patio Coffee shop is such a cute little place. I come here when i’m not in the mood for the Craziness of a Philz or starbucks. This place takes you back in time. Once you walk in and see the people reading their newspapers and drinking coffee. The food here is amazing and i’m not saying that it really is. Everything is fresh and made to order which might take a little long but it’s well worth it. The staff is also great they make you feel right at home. Unlike a lot of places these guys check on you often make. I will continue to come here on those days when i just need some me time and coffee.

I came by on a Saturday at around 11:30 and they had a sign blocking the door stating they were closed. There were other people in there, so what’s the deal? An explanation would have been nice. But whatever it was couldn’t have been that bad if you still have diners. This place is off the beaten path and I’ve been wanting to try it, so I walked in the rain. What a disappointment and now I’m not confident they will be open when they are supposed to be. I was starving for breakfast that day!!!

Great place for a brunch, nothing fancy but friendly services and great food quality makes it an awesome choice to be here. Corner seats have plug in for electricity = an office away from office. First time here and guarantee this will not be the last time. Loved it. Will be back again.

One of the best places to have breakfast in San Mateo: fresh great tasting food with a cup of coffee or refreshing smoothie if your tastebuds can handle it! This is one if my favorite places around the town because the experience here at Patio Café is consistently excellent. First, grab a seat at the counter or one of the tables. There are many windows which makes the whole room look bright and inviting. I love having breakfast next to a window, this is one of the reasons I love this place. Then, order a coffee or other drink. I love coffee Latte, served in a tall glass with milk foam on top of it. You can ask refill for a regular coffee. I’ve tried multiple breakfast meals here and loved all of them. French Toast plate is magnificent and sweet. Mediterranean omelette has a fresh healthy taste. I encourage you to pay a visit to Patio Café and to try it for yourself!

Simple. Fresh. Exactly what I wanted for that day. We wanted a low key, high quality breakfast away from the crowded shops. This place seemed like a quaint family owned café where the service was splendid. I truly enjoyed our experience. We sat by the window on a lovely warm day. The breakfast was a good portion and really hit the spot. Prices were reasonable and well worth it. I will 100% without question be back.

This is a fairly average diner. The service was pretty good, but the food is fairly nothing special. I’ve only tried a couple of the breakfast dishes. If I were in the area looking for breakfast, I would go here, but I wouldn’t go out of my way for it.

Great local coffee/diner shop. A friend and I were to have some drinks. I got the Yoga 23 smoothie(granola with organic almond milk), it was the best smoothie I had, sweet and fulfilling. Love it! Coffee is decent.

Clean, friendly, fast, and the food is what you’d expect from a traditional small breakfast/lunch café. I’ve had multiple items, mostly breakfast, and they are all average but definitely not disappointing. You get what you expect and that is always good business. Nice spot that is affordable as well. Homemade corned beef hash too for you fanatics out there(we know you exist)!

Coffee is watery and the chai latte doesn’t taste like anything. Both the coffee and latte had absolutely no taste. I would avoid this place for the coffee. It’s not really a café, it’s more of a sit down restaurant. The décor is pretty nice but service is slow.

Love the remodel, everything looks so nice. The new Mediterranean dishes are yummy I like the falafel and grilled eggplant sandwich. Favorite breakfast is still the corned beef hash And my go to lunch is the delicious herb chicken with mushroom and swiss sandwich Never been disappointed, worth the stop for a nice casual lunch

Such an adorable coffee shop right by my house! Can’t believe I never came here before. It’s a little hole in the wall with your typical diner fare. Prices are great, for 5 – 6 dollars, I can get myself a full breakfast. Yes, I can make these things at home, but when laziness calls, I’m taking my little self to the patio. The owner is welcoming and tries to chat it up with all the patrons. Friendly guy and very accommodating. I didnt get a chance to try their coffee, but their house brewed ice tea was above average.
